Probably because it is the shameful fourth repaint of the same expensive figure, oh wait... they slightly changed the crown and the chest plates, and replaced the Scrander with an awesome "L" shaped ramp... Yes, all that plus now you can display it next to the other Fewture Mazingers - along with its giant Koji on a giant motorcycle. ;D

I think it's a nice compliment to the Mazingers. Yes, it was a phoned-in release. But for the Mazinger purists (talking to you themazingerz) this is a ncie addition. I am a Getter guy meyslf, but look forward to this Energer. I think it's the color scheme that does it for me. And he has a "great white shark" look to his face. LOL!

Well, it is a Mazinger prototype after all....and isn't it the same story with all the other Energer Z produced by all all other companies?? Maybe I'm addicted to the Fewture gothic look, but I'm really lookig forward to putting him with the rest of the Mazingers ;D

I case there were any doubts, they really did finally release the darn thing. I got mine yesterday.
Their glue still can't keep the magnets on the arms in place. Same old problem there was with the previous Fewture 1969 Mazingers. But other than that, QC looks good overall at first glance. I'll take a closer look at it later.

I didn't remember being bothered by the hip joints on the original Mazinger 1969, but out of curiosity I dug it out from my toy stash and I see what you mean. If you raise Mazinger's leg as high as you can and let go of it (the leg, not the figure ;D) it with drop back down. Energer's joints seem considerably stronger. The leg will stay up, even if you move the figure around. Of course, if you start flying it around like a 6-year old, the joint won't hold. But that's to be expected. As for the magnets, I didn't have this problem on my Mazinger. The magnets were strong enough to hold the forearms in place. It's the glue that wasn't strong enough to hold the magnets in place. On Mazinger, I had to glue its left forearm's magnet (fist side) back on out of the box. Today, I found out that my homemade touch-up help up, but that the other magnet on the same joint (the one on the elbow end) gave up. But as far as strength is concerned, it seems alright to me on both figures. Energer's magnets may be a LITTLE bit stronger, but that may just be my imagination, or just because of the fact that Mazinger's are older. By the way, both figures have the exact same body sculpt. Or and least, I took a close look at both, side-by-side, and I couldn't spot a single difference. Energer did look bulkier on some pictures, as Quinjester pointed out, but it's really just the outfit that makes this girl look fat. Only the "crown" part on the head is different. Everything from the eyes down (paintjob and accessories aside) is the same. You put the bike ramp on Energer just like you attached Mazinger's Scrandler to his back. All of the accessories, with the exception of the Pilders and the bike, and interchangeable. Which means... Since I had Mazinger and Energer side-by-side, I decided to do a little experiment. I took Mazinger's head off and plugged it on Energer's body, along with its breast plates and Scrandler. Result : Instant Mazinger 1969 OVA repaint. Ok, so an OVA repaint wouldn't have a Scrandler, but it looks so cool I'd leave it on. The bronze parts would probably be left black on an official OVA repaint, but since the color looks like Mazinger's horns' and the Scrandler's fin and it looks gorgeous like that. I'd leave them as-is too. As soon as I post this message, I think I'm going to hunt down another Energer... unless I come back to my senses before that. Honestly, that's how awesome it looks to me compared to the original Mazinger 1969's paint scheme. I'll just have to paint "Mazinger OVA's" neck grey like Mazinger's head (Energer's neck is painted white like its face), which should be really easy, and that will be it. Though it already looks fine as-is, with a white neck and grey head. I don't know if I'll hunt down another Mazinger 1969 just to get a second head (to be able to display both the "custom" OVA version and the original), though. I may just store its headless body away and only display the custom (and then I could just put Mazinger's neck on Energer instead of repainting it). Unless someone has a head for sale... ;D So easy to make and yet so beautiful, it wouldn't be surprising to see Fewture releasing an OVA repaint of their Mazinger 1969. I usually don't like repaints and try to stay away from them, but I'd strongly approve of this one. Just like the Black Getter "anime-accurate " repaint (LARGE quote marks here), it's one that would make sense. Quick 'n dirty shot : Mazinger's head on Energer's body looks awesome. The other way around... not so much.

nice review, i got the original mazinger 1st release and i was very disappointed when i found out that both arms magnets has no magnetism (talk about irony ) what so ever and being a late collector it doesn't help, im glad that you did this, i was actually planning to do that and i knew that maz head will be perfect for energer's body...thanks for the pictures ... have you tried, putting the pileder on energer? will it stay and fit nice?
