I dont own a PS3 but this seem like a buyer beware deal . Sony could and probably will over come this and block the individual PS3 systems from online play.

the next upgrade for the ps3's firmware will disable the USB ports, this was probably sony's solution for this but its an optional upgrade.
they say its untraceable since the development team for the ps3's software uses this method for testing games online.

according to what i read on the internet
the mod chip is loaded before the official firmware tricking the ps3 to convert it as a developers unit.
from this the ps3 can dump and load softwares from an external hard drive dongle via USB ports and vice versa.
so if the next upgrade software for the ps3 disables the USB ports, this wont work.
it works for the latest 3.41 version or lower.

tempting, but still to pricey. Like with most softmods, it usually gets killed fast meaning newer games will not work and suck. Mods only work when they are easy to work with, like on the PSP. the DS and the Wii. Those can easily be done and there are a lot of hackers that works on fixes so that whatever game updates are needed, they are there to bypass. I'll wait for someone to leak the information to create this USB dongle and make it myself. $170 is just too much and you have to go and rent the games to rip to the HDD.

if this works, another problem would be on how to download a 43gig game like god of war 3, it will take days or a week.

if this works, another problem would be on how to download a 43gig game like god of war 3, it will take days or a week. The dongle reads game, rather it loads up the HDD. Meaning this USB dongle lets you rip original games onto your Hard drive. It doesn't say that it will read Backup blu Ray games, perhaps it will I am not sure but on the description, it said there is no need for blu ray burner. In fact on the demo video, he stuck in an original copy of Uncharted. The system still needs the original games boot sector, but the USB dongle tricks the machine and loads the game that was on the Hard drive. In the demo, he selected Rachet and Clank game. I don't know if this device allows of games to be ripped onto an external HDD. I thought the games were loaded from the internal PS3 HDD. If you are thinking of downloading the game to the PC and then transferring it to the PS3 if it was an external HDD, you would still need a program that will read a HDD that is in PS3 type format. The Wii has WBFS type format and there is a program for it. Not sure if the PS3 has a program for the PC that can read PS3 format. I was assuming that people if they decide to get this would gamefly all the PS3 and just rip them onto the HDD and upgrade their internal HDD to 1TB type.

yes supergetterv
i think there is something wrong with the procedure on the video. dont buy it. lets wait and see. all the hackers gave this for free with instructions and they just want recognition for their hacking skills.
i think its fake at this time. they can prove me wrong.

now i know this is for real, they already released an open source copy. you need the 3.41 firmware so here is a copy from RMike of portable pirates. www.megaupload.com/?d=CBGD4ZRQjust put it in a USB (provided your USB ports are still working) flash disk. ;D

yes its working, some of the electronic stores here in the philippines are starting to sell the chip from 3000-5000 pesos (1 usd is 46 pesos) depending on the games you want to come with it.
i saw at least 2 more and better chips than the jailbreaker, they are cheaper and easier to use.
but you can save a lot if you program your own chip. it will cost you around only 20% of the selling price of programmed chips.
;D

The price of a programmable USB dongle isn't that cheap, but you are right, it's around 20$ and the instructions to program it isn't easy to follow either. So many programs to install, Hex editing and other programming skills are needed. The link you provided, the MU one is just a 3.41 system update, which I can't used for some reason. Every time I go to the update screen, and select the USB device, the message pops up saying there is no update file.

yes its still very hard to tell what dongle and what mod chip will have the most games for now. and its very hard to fine tune or program the chip. its still very early and hackers are still coming up with a more "user friendly" program for the ps3 open source hack. im reading a lot on this site. www.ps3iso.com/

I heard that you can get a Dreamcast emulator with this, that would be awesome for me as I have a single DC game (Tech Romancer - think streetfighter with giant robots) that I still want to play!

The usb dongle now sells for really cheap on some hong kong sites I have found. The problem I am having is that I can't update my ps3 to the firmware that these dongle works on. Everytime I go to update my ps3 with the file on the usb drives, it give me a message saying no files found.

Found out why I couldn't update the firmware from your link. Your link was for a standard 3.41 firmware update and this firmware is needed for the use of those jailbreak mod. But the Zip file wasn't as well made. I knew it has to be some dumb directory issue and it was. For those that didn't know, you have to create a PS3 folder on the root of your USB flash drive and then inside that folder, create a UPDATE folder and then place the Zip file which when extracted is PS3UDAT.PUP or something inside the update folder, otherwise the PS3 will not know where to look for the update file. Same dumb Sony directory problem system like on the PSP.
