Don't lose hope, my friend! HLJ has sold the unassembled VF-1 kit before and it even went on sale so 20K Yen shipped may just be a matter of patience

How many of you got the kit?

I got one, massive box, full of parts. The molded details are very impressive but I read most members on MW that got it had problems with the quantity of the various screws included, apparently some are too many and others are too few... I haven't checked on mine yet

Very cool... I already got the initial release plus I don't have it in me to build another kit version of the same toy I already have - but some of the upgrade parts certain look nice.

Is the plastic quality the same on the unpainted kit version as it is with the fully assembled version?

So how was the build? Super complicated or just involved?

I don't think that's the build up kit.

The sdf-1 that I have is not the kit version - its the pre assembled one I don't think I would have the time to attempt to build the kit version

[/ Sweeeet nice one dude:) haven't had a chance to attach the small pieces yet - have been über busy with work but I plan to do it over the Christmas holidays. I really like this piece - its one of my favorites - I just love all the small details it has and how study and solid it feels when you play with it. I was for awhile contemplating on the wave version before I got this - how do the 2 versions compare apart from the difference in size?

cool....how big is that thing??? been wanted to get an SDF ....but its too darn expensive..... It's quite big Mojacko - approx 42cm long in cruiser mode and nearly a kilo in weight Graham from macross world has a really good/detailed review on it - he has size comparison shots of the Yamato sdf-1 with the wave and the vintage takatoku version www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/Yamato_SDF-1/SDF_1_review.htmIts expensive and probably overpriced but to me it's the definitive Sdf-1 made to date:)

Received mine last Friday. I am now officially part of the sdf-1 Yamato club ;D Quite satisfied with it, I just really HATE all these little parts I hava had to glue on to the ship you would think that for the price Yamato is asking for this thing they would have attached these pieces for us, I mean if I enjoyed this process I'd be getting the model not the toy. The piece is quite stunning and has fantastic presence. mojacko mojacko perhaps next time you're over you can inspect it further to see if its worth buying.

Thanks max...no my Yamato isn't the SOC rather the SOP (Soul of Popynica) also by Bandai released awhile back you could probably score one for less than the SOC version.

To get an SDF-1 or not to get an SDF-1, that is the question. My tax refund will cover about 85% of the cost (assuming I can get one at my target price). Well FRACK!! It still is a lot of money......, but it IS a very nice toy. Decisions, decisions.

I would go for it. I enjoy mine very much, even with an unlucky sample of faulty knee ratchets (doesn't click on one direction, but it is an isolated case and not a common issue). Its really detailed and very nice to look at. Feels pretty sturdy too. The only thing that is quite fragile are all the tiny antennae and cannons. If you can find one without too outrageous markup, I would say go for it. You won't find a nicer SDF-1 for a very very long time, if ever.
