Hi guys. I am sure this question has been asked before but what are the differences between the Godmars DX and the Godmars Custom? Height? Die cast content? He is next up on my list of toys to purchase and I was just curious. Thanks!

That paper Godmars does look pretty cool...but I meant the difference between the Popy GB-68 and the Popy GB-88.

Funny answer above, LOL! Good question to ask, as many assume they are the same size. I've got some pix taken for the last time this discussion came up and will dig them up from photobucket for you. The Custom type is about 3/4 the size of DX, and less detail, and more plastic. More parts have to be added and removed to combine the Custom, vs. the DX is mostly self contained. Some people like the Custom for it's better proportions (less blocky).

Here's a box comparison shot. Godaikin/DX on bottom(same as PopyDX) CustomType on top. This is the Taiwan Bandai stamped box. Here's the bots on a shelf. DX on left, CustomType on right.

That custom is nicer than I expected. I had always heard bad things about it. Maybe it was just in terms of a comparison with the DX, but as a stand-alone toy, it looks pretty nice.
I like how you use the Great Maz model kit as an art display.

The custom is pretty lousy. I was bummed.. Looks ok combined but the transformation is not good...

Well, that's just the thing. The CustomType achieves it's better proportions and look by being more of a "parts-former" where you remove the arms and stuff from the little bots so there's less "kibble" or stuffs hanging off the back and sides, hence, more anime accurate. The DX is more satisfying of course due to extra complicated (to me read COOL) gimmicks, diecast weight, and size, but like most DX's , turn it around to the side or back, and YIKES!
Don't read me wrong, the DX is one of my all time favorites, but you do generally pay more for it. Not sure why exactly the CustomeType was thought to be needed and made, but it's just simpler, and cheaper, and yeah, a little better looking.

Oh, and along the same lines of discussion, machinesoldier had let me check his and Sjoen's Morphy Auction winnings of the GodMarz "RealType" ST sized bot, and that sold me. I'd always seen pics, but getting to play with it made it clearer what it was about.
A much more articulated, and cool version of an ST robot. Anybody pick those up? I recommend it. Kinda like a vintage version of the SRC's coming out today. Lot less blocky brick than most ST's of the day.

It is really cool to me to look at the back of the Dx Godmars form the early 80's, I supposed either of the above examples including the smaller custom model, and the newer re-issue designs. The thought that went into the newer engineering is impressive, and neat to compare the two, and I agree as well that the newer version is truer to the anime and looks sleek and more true to , but for some reason I still prefer the older versions. Perhaps I am just a sucker for the harder to find so called "vintage" items, even though I am considering getting a "Soul of" Voltes V and Combattler, as attempting to get a nice example of these in vintage is a pricey endeavor to say the least, and the re-issues come with so many more great weapon features it seems. I just spotted that new Daltanias tonight (pre-order), and I must say I really like the new look and paint scheme....

And I had pictured Machine Dolphin being smaller, but he is pretty large in comparison to the Dx Godmars....

Ok, I goofed before. In taking the CustomType off the shelf, and taking some review pics, I realized the front half of each limb robot is diecast, similar to TFs, and the center Sphinx has diecast for the "collarbone/shoulder area. Also the leg and arm bots legs are each a solid plastic block. No seperate feet.

When combined, the arms and stuff are all left behind in the box.

Oh, this is fantastic, Jon! Thanks for doing this. Yeah, you really see the difference when presented like this. Most telling is the parts left in the box.

Those pictures should be published on RJ I can't begin to explain how many people have asked about this. Thanks Jon! E
