Inward bending elbows - we meet again, my old nemesis.
Why transformers to this day are still being made with hands that can only ever face inwards or palm up baffles me. Oh well.

The addition of the hose is a nice homage. Out of all the DOTM toys we've seen so far, this is the only one that made it to my list.

shockwave looks shockingly cool...
Since theyre making an Ultimate Optimus Prime... I wonder if theyre going to market it as a Masterpiece Prime for the japanese market

So the trailer transforms to a mech suit... Ultra Magness anyone?! More like Powermaster Prime. The addition of the hose is a nice homage. Out of all the DOTM toys we've seen so far, this is the only one that made it to my list. Yep, same here. If anything he'll look decent with the War for Cybertron figures. Since theyre making an Ultimate Optimus Prime... I wonder if theyre going to market it as a Masterpiece Prime for the japanese market I have no doubt that this is the figure they've been waiting to do just that with. Emerje

Yes, I hope this next Prime will be what gets the MP treatment, and will be further improved upon from the last Leader Prime. I would gladly pay the $100 ultimate pricetag if they can pull it off.

They'll have to do a hell of a job to top the previous leader prime - it remains to be seen how effective the trailer armor can be done. The Optimus/Jetfire combination was messy and not particularly satisfying, but if the figure is built from the ground up to combine with a component that it's actually sold with, hopefully it can be done much better.
I'll keep my fingers crossed, but for the time being, my purchase list for the upcoming movie line is pretty small.

I am hoping they can make the trailer look good. As long as the trailer does not have a robot mode, I think we will be ok. The jetfire figure was not very good already and to have to accommodate 3 modes must of made it harder to design. If the trailer is nothing more than a trailer, maybe anything involved on the inside will be geared solely for the armor transformation. Still a few months of leaks I supposed before the movie is out, so hopefully we have some clues in the near future.

They're starting to look like oldschool robots now, blocky proportions

Ultimate OP images. I am totally disappointing. I was hoping it might be at least something close to what was in the trailer. It looks like a gundam-x meets movie prime. The base figure does not look bad, but it does not look better than the current leader OP. I hope they do either a premium paint Leader OP, or just reissue it. At this point that is the best Prime figure from the lot. io9.com/#!5754229/is-transformers-3s-optimus-prime-a-giant-robotic-butterfly/gallery/1

actually what it says in that artical is wrong if you look real closely in the superbowl video that is not what he is useing, it looks to me like he still has Jetfires weapons and armor from ROTF if you pause it you can see it clearly

Yeah, he seems to be wearing some kind of jet pack with a pair of thrusters behind him that get jettisoned as he spins around and deploys his blade weapon. I wonder though. It's a cool idea - Optimus just isn't Optimus without a trailer of some kind. And I love the "powered" mode concept... too bad the toy looks horrible - looks more like a kid wearing a cardboard box than a true power-suit for him. Too many flat panels (which is ironic since all this time I've been thinking there weren't enough flat panels in the "Bayformers" style.

I'm a bit split on the new Prime. On one hand the Prime figure himself is pretty simple and I'm not too crazy about the forearms, a figure this expensive should be even more accurate than even the TF2 leader figure. I do like the legs and body and the truck mode isn't bad. Can't wait to see the Japanese release, hopefully they use a lot of silver chrome on the trailer.
The combined mode is a bit much, the wings are just too big, but that certainly does give him stature, though at the same time he looks like a giant butterfly... There actually is some transforming involved here, it's not just slipping armor onto the figure like with Jetfire. The torso compresses a bit with parts of the red under the windshield moving down to sides. The upper legs are covered in armor and become the new waist, the lower legs become the upper legs. The arms fold up and flip over to make new upper arms. The lower legs and forearms are all new. All of that is cool, but he looks stiff, he does't seem to have elbows or knees and his legs are connected to his body by those thin beams so that's a major lack of articulation right there.
Still, at the right price I'll think about getting this. I was surprised that Devastator never lasted long enough to go on clearance near me so this may be a really good seller even at $100.

I guess Mothra became his powermaster...and he got the powermaster figure's articulation. I have mixed feelings about this one, here's hoping for some more images at ToyFair.
Interesting that his trailer has something kinda similar to G2 Prime's voicebox. I'm also surprised that this one doesn't have the blue hexes on the hood...were those just a throw-in for the toy rather than part of his new movie design?
