I believe that the toys are identical (though I could be wrong).
I just snapped pics of the Walker Garrier DX and Xabungle DX Astrobot KO which I'll add to this thread once I finish formatting them.

"I know Ideon here isn't Clover, but I have always thought he had the same look and feel as a Clover toy."
You know, there is a strange relationship between Tomy and Clover. The 1/46 Billbine from Aura Battler Dunbine is clearly a Clover toy but has either no markings or a Tomy mark over where the Clover mold had been covered up. The 1/32 Billbine is Tomy I believe, but based on the toy and the box art is clearly Clover as well. When compared side by side with the Clover Dunbine toys and boxes, there is no question..
The IDEON toys are SO Clover as well. Sometimes companies did this back in the day. They farmed out certain projects of the properties / licenses that they owned as they didn't have the manufacturing and or design capabilities to pull off pieces like those released in the IDEON series. You see this quite a bit in the missile firing vinyls and talkers.
Sanzen for example: "While the companies may not have shared any licenses, there is no question that Sanzen and Bullmark must have cooperated in some manner from a design and manufacturing standpoint." per Matt Alt in our Sanzen data file on TBDX.
Also, the Popy Sun Vulcan and T28 talkers I have, when opened are marked and manufactured by Ozen, but you wouldn't know it unless you took the talk boxes out which is no easy task btw..
Odds are, the Tomy Ideon toys are from the same lineage as the other Clover pieces they so clearly resemble. My two cents...

OK. Just pulled out this IDEON Missile Firing Vinyl because this whole thing was getting to me. This one has NO company markings on it at all, similar to some of the 1/46 Billbine toys... I'm starting to think when Clover tanked Tomy possibly picked up their existing licenses and ran with them.. I mean why would another company take over the Aura Battler Dunbine line in the middle of the TV series? Although what's strange is that Ideon ran from 80-82 and Dunbine ran from 83-84. My bet is that Tomy absorbed Clover. I'll check with Professor Duban on this, but that's where my money is at.. OK, so back to this MFV. It's got the EXACT missile winding mechanism that many of the Bullmark pieces have as well as the shooting shields on the sides of the arms (Mekanda Robo MFV has these EXACTLY like the IDEON). Bullmark met it's untimely demise in 1977 (per Saburo Ishizuki in the afterword of Super#1), but carried on in some form as ARK until ??. So a big giant MAYBE they had something to do with a 1980 IDEON MFV.. Who knows........

^ WOW! How big is that - about 9 inches tall? Interesting stuff about the Clover / Tomy link. I remember we had discussed the Billbine a while back and brought that up then too. Found it - here it is: toyboxdx.com/phorum/read.php?4,175696,181432#msg-181432 I remember that great brog! Scrolling up and down, the KO isn't that far off from the original Clover toy.

Thanks for resurrecting that thread. Totally forgot about that one.. So I took a pic of the back of the Mekanda MFV box. See how it has the same bells and whistles the IDEON MFV has?

The lower arm molds, with the spring loaded shield spinning action, are the same as well..

As a follow-up to Mr Henki Tryder G7 with magnetic head: I went back for pictures based on Erik's lead. The headless one is the Henki Gattai (super big set), then the other is from the Window style box with blueprints on the box back (as Erik showed). They look exactly the same.

You guys are the bestest! Those comparison shots are very helpful. Online item auction pics just can't compare in knowing what size the sets are. I'll say it again , how it cracks me up how goofy Clover seems in putting out so many different sets of the same character. With unique box art for each. NOT that I'm complaining mind you! Lots o' wabbits for huntin'.
