I'm loving the finish and those light up eyes. Argh. April, huh?
... well, I don't have anything else currently on order for that month so my budget is wide open, at the very least....

Nice finish on the Max version, but I will pass due to the price and lack of accessories.

39800 JPY = $420?!?!?! I love the finish and the light up gimmick. For that price and the only accessories are the chains? I don't know.....

I've decided to pick this guy up... It's expensive but not much more than I was expecting. I'm just gonna cancel all my orders for the months leading up to release. I started collecting Gokins because of this guy, so... Also, the thought of waiting for clearance price is tempting but give the resale of Max Factory products once they're gone, I'd rather not gamble on it. The Max Factory Dann of Thursday now goes for well over $250 and the SOG Karas is at the $500 mark on both Ebay and Yahoo Japan.

Don't forget Roger's car, the Griffon. ;D I wonder if the wheels on the Griffon actually roll this time or if it's going to be another Gashapon type figure like on the SOC. Gold

I like Big O a lot, but maybe not enough for that price tag. I guess It would depend on the final features & the metal content. But for that amount of money, then the Yamato SDF-1 (T.O.T.Y.) and/or the Fewture Shin Getter sound more appealing.
I do agree w/ Mr. quinjester that the metal blue finish on him looks Lovable!
Question for Mr. Dead-Man, does the second picture signify the die-cast content & if so is it the dark colors that are metal or the lighter colors in the pic? I'm thinking its the darker - hopefully ^_^ from toy-world.com.hk!

I think you meant to post this image, my friend I doubt that the black parts are the diecast content, however. It looks like most of the metal will be in the main torso, upper arms, and thighs, with perhaps some being in the structure of the legs. Cool though it would be, in theory, to have big ol' diecast limbs and pistons, I cannot imagine in my wildest dreams that Max factory could put together a figure of Big-O's proportions with diecast arms and NOT have the joints go to hell and turn into floppy, broken messes. The weight of one of those arms alone would probably rival the weight of the average small SOC!

Whew, thanks quinjester you just made my day brotha! Kinda new here & not an experienced forum meister so wasn't sure if copy&paste w/ those pix would work! Heh, full diecast arms for Big O would be funny though! They would be hefty, but go nowhere! It would be like he's curling dumbells and couldn't lift them - just dangling there because - Arms too heavy! uh-... If they were die-cast maybe hollow like Popy Tetsujin or something like that...

Amiami has it for $370 plus EMS shipping (probably another $60)... $430 for a figure that I really have not much interest in and I already have the Bandai plastic and SOC versions of. Looks wicked cool, but for me it is not worth dropping $430 on it.
I do understand the Big-O fans getting it anyway, because if it was a Max Factory diecast rendition of the classic Mazinger Z, with that height and light up eyes, I would have no problem in ordering at least two of them - even if my wife puts me inthe hospital for a couple of weeks.

So... Amiami has put a stop to international sales of Max Factory goods at the command of Bad Smile Company. Just checked this guy out and looks like Big O has been embargoed by this as well...

A warning that ... nothing is not available? or that nothing is available? I can't see anything on the amiami site about it at all either way...

Apparently they're supposed to stop selling Good Smile Company/ Max Factory products to foreigners outside of Japan due to Good Smile Company's new export policy. But just like Shinotaking said, right now there's just a warning saying "For Sale In Japan Only" and from what Amiami has said (I haven't seen the message personally though) they will be honoring orders that have been confirmed, but this may stop eventually. I ordered a figma last night to see what would happen but got the confirmation and nothing blocking my order. So, I guess they're playing it by ear for now. Good Smile Company's last attempt to block international orders of discounted items failed so there's speculation this'll fail also.

aint this the same case as "Tamashii Web Exclusive" since only people who live in Japan can buy them? but their exclusive items evantually reaches us
|

|
Post by quinjester on Jan 29, 2011 14:53:43 GMT -5
Not really the same, since those Tamashii web exclusives are excluded from being sold through dealers period and made in limited quantities, and the exclusives for the Tamashii web stuff definitely don't reach us for anything less than 150% retail, most of the time. I certainly don't want to go from paying 80% of retail to 150% of retail on any GSC distributed product I take a fancy to.
However, in a way it IS similar from what I"m reading into it, in the sense that GSC wants to do their own distributing overseas, which means they'd be selling direct to the western markets. That means no markdowns, no 20% off amiami or HLJ sales, MSRP prices, back like the good ol' days of HLJ. IF it goes according to their plan and the major e-tailers don't just ignore them, anyway.

Hmmm I think this is more of a bluff than anything else, how is GSC gonna keep track of who sells what to whom? If they alienate all the stores that sell their product then who will carry their products? It's a "free market" in a sense that if you want something bad enough you'll get it, nowadays there is no such thing as a "Japan only" item. Sure you may pay a premium or you may lose the discount but we already pay a premium in the crappy exchange rate and shipping charges.

It's a short sighted plan, though, in my opinion as it will only hurt their profits and reputation in the market. Also, there are plenty of Hong Kong sellers out there that'll be selling the figures for the same discounts. Furthermore, it's not like GSC have the type of product that'd be readily available in Target or anything, so regulating sales to US online shops with high markups is just ridiculous as a long term plan.

I don't mean to jump to conclusions... but I often seriously feel offended that companies overseas (or perhaps namely Japan) would come up with these stupid embargoes. I don't know nor understand the technicalities of why they do that; therefore all I can see about it is that I think it is Stupid, as in Offensively stupid... to Me. I shouldn't talk, I really don't do a lot of shopping from well-known dealers (HLJ, Amiami, Toywave, etc). Why do I feel offended? Because the coolest toys I like best are available "only in Japan", meaning some of them cool toys are not available to be sold to any outside market. When I see things like that, it makes me feel like a Foreigner, aka "gaijin", cast in a negative light. Many of us fans in the western world spend sh*tloads of money on these "exclusive" toys because we like them. Some of us go as obsessively far as to put off a bill or two to buy these particular holy grails. I might cringe at spending too much money on a toy from that "off limits" category, but I get more irate when a distributor OVER THERE cannot (or will not) sell me the item at all. The more I think about it, the more pissed off I get. Therefore, I refuse to support those distributors and companies who resort to such stupid embargoes. "Gaijin" my left ass-half! I just won't buy from them. If something I'd like to have manages to end up for sale in Used or mint condition here at RJ or on Ebay here in the USA then I'll wait until that time to buy the item. As for those companies and overseas dealers who wanna practice such stoOopid embargoes, they can S**k My Robot Chicken. There. I got it off my chest and blew it outta my system. I apologize for going off topic; I just wanted to Go Off. zozo-Magengar So... Amiami has put a stop to international sales of Max Factory goods at the command of Bad Smile Company. Just checked this guy out and looks like Big O has been embargoed by this as well...
