Hi guys, I'm sort of new to this forum. I just moved into my new place and I'm shopping for display cases. I was just wondering what display cases you guys use to display your robots. I've been looking at ikea lately and noticed 3 cabinet/bookshelf systems on their site: Besta, Detolf, and Billy. Do any of you guys use these display cases and if yes, how do you like them? If no, what other display cases do you guys use or recommend? Any help is appreciated. thanks!

I use the billy, and love them. There are lots of options for customizing and making them suit your needs.

Welcome to the site! Detolfs seem to be the most commonly used among our collectors, but get whatever strikes your fancy.

DETOLF is popular because it's a stand-alone unit and cheap. Everything you need except the lighting is included in the box... and when you want more - you can put more side-by-side and they'll look good together. That said, not customizable at all - the heights are fixed. So, MOST figures will fit, but occasionally not all.

The only thing I don't like about billy is that it isn't glass all the way around. So you can't see the figures stashed around the back or on the side. And also, because it is not glass all around, you need better lighting to see inside. But it does keep dust out better than detolf. Detolf has to many gaps, there are solution because you can seal the gaps with tape, but I constantly move my figures around and it is a hassle to remove the tape everytime I open up the displays.

Thanks guys. Awesome display coldIron! The billy system you have looks really nice. Once I get my things in place I will share my displays with you all. Kingboyd, Ben-ohki and supergetterv, tHanks for all the input about the billy system and detolfs as well. I also collect some of the hot toys predators and they seem too big to fit in the detolfs. I have a feeling I'm going to have a tough time finding a display cabinet that fits my preds in just the right way so that it uses the shelf space effeciently. If any of you out there has a display cabinet that is different, please share. I'd love to see your display cabinets or any new ideas to display robots/figures. thanks again guys!!

If the Predator figures are 1/6 scale, then they will fit (barely; since Predators should be tall compared to humans). But just for your reference, each DETOLF shelf is about 15 inches high.

I have Detolfs, they are my favorite. I was always thinking of ways to make it adjustable. I was thinking of designing something with hex locking nuts. But yeah they fit most figures fine

Thanks. One thing to note on this set of shelves. The left top has a Dancouga, Bandai and Yamamoto Valks, and a PG scale Sazabi. The right has a MP Prime, and FP Bruticus to give you an idea of the scale of figures I am displaying.

Storage is a big issue at my place and closet space is ... almost Zero. So I have a spare room that is full of stuff. I took note of what other members have used. I just want to say thank you for the ideas.
I went out and bought two of the 6 shelf -72 inch tall 48 inch wide- wire shelves. They work great. I need another one though. now I can actually see what I have. It looks better than all the boxes I had stacked against the wall.
The only down side is that my wife hasn't seen it. LOL she's gonna say it again - You have too much stuff.
In any case the shelves worked out for me.

Good puck light for your displays. It's the largest and brightest LED puck light I've ever seen. It's great if you have a glass top display with no light, like the one above. You can set it flat on top of your glass display, on the outside. The light is in a rubber casing. So it won't slide or scratch the glass. Energizer Hard Case Professional 3-LED Puck Light (Batteries Included) $9.55 & FREE Shipping on orders over $25. - Three bright wide angle LEDs deliver 50 lumens of broad angle light
- Versatile; comes with 2 mounting options; magnet or wall mount
- Tough; Impact absorbing rubber casing for maximum durability
- Simple push lens switch to activate
- 3 AA Energizer MAX batteries provide up to 31 hours runtime

You cant turn your billy in a modern designed cabinet (or any of your shelf) by creating sliding windows. It's really easy to create, and not expensive. You need to buy : - a pair of aluminium profiling (double-U) - Teflon seal or steel ball (diameter must feet each size of double-U gap)<- this make the window slidding. - 2 x glass (better is to sand down the edges, by your supplier) Warning : keep enough space in the double-U to fit the glasses (see pictures). Glasses size is a bit more than half of the shelf size : add 2 or 3 cm. The double-U will be attached by screws to the boards of your shelf (so you need to drill holes and use screw with flat head). You can paint them with a spraycan before installation (white make them fade away). I allready created this for 2 different shops I designed : this is easy to make.

The double-U will help billy's board to not bend.
