i purchased my first Jumbo Machinder 2 months back.. who was the Third Version GM... i was pretty stoked on this purchase .. although he needed new chest stickers.. swords... and more missiles.. i was able to do the chest.. waist.. and knee stickers.. with a vinyl cutter.. and I purchased some not so great repro swords on ebay.. with the two missiles it came with.. i decided to reproduce more to make this GM look more complete.. and here is what i have so far.. and the few adjustments and fixes i made to make things a bit easier for me.. i decided to eliminate the locking ridges on the original missile for ease of use. The ridges make it near impossible to slide the missile "fins" into place.

Nice Repro. Thanks for fixing the image.

Here's a little update of where I am currently at.. I finished sanding missile and now I applied a couple coats of clear gloss to mimic the original finish. If I left the missiles with primer and made molds. The recast version will have the same finish as the dull and gritty primed copy. To get a good match to original a glossy finish must be achieved. Silicone molds are that sensitive. I've also been working on fixing the broken clip of my star shooter, which is a common thing i've seen around. I basically glued the two halves together with epoxy. Applied putty, and will sand when cured.

Wow, I luv this project, thanks for sharing! I'm taking notes. Until now I've been making simple resin objects and parts for my customs... ...but soon I'll have to begin some work on my jumbos and this (and other members' Jumbo jobs) will come in handy as reference. Thanks! zozo-mag

I have a broken Dragun star clip also and I thought about trying to recast it. My biggest worry was will the clip fit after I repair it and then recast it. Wait, my really biggest problem is I'm no good at cast stuff.

Brutha, trust me....... I used to believe I couldn't do it... I thought it was a complicated process... I thought I didn't have the patience to learn how to do it... ...I broke the ice and now the learning hasn't stopped. For me, it all started right here at RJ back in the day when I saw folks posting tutorials on how to cast resin toy custom parts. That was around late 2006. Then I pursued that aspect of the hobby with more research and some novice practice, and a little shopping around. What am I really saying here? Once you learn how to cast things, you'll be hooked on the best drug this hobby has to offer. Once you learn the basics you'll then wanna cast everything and Everything under the sun. I just Know you will, sooner or later. ;D If you can make ice cubes... ...you Can cast custom toy parts. zozo-mag ...my really biggest problem is I'm no good at cast stuff.

Nice extra steps taken for a better glossy reproduction. I have been mainly using Sorta Clear 40 which is a platinum silicone for the molds.
Do you use a pressure chamber for the castings? On some 2 part urethane resins, would get tiny little air bubbles if the casting was not pressurized. On my gaiking wing, I actually vacuum the resin first for 3 minutes before pouring to achieve a nicer, bubble-free casting since the wing is too large to fit in the pressure chamber.
I will have to use the waxing tip on a custom sickle that I am doing currently for my grendizer before molding. I read on another forum about using Dupli-color primer, and it sprays a fine mist for keeping tiny details. I am going to get a can of their gloss coat to apply to the sickle as well.
