Just checked Maz and they are back up for preorder at AmiAmi,I may have misread but did you mention they were all out at one point?I just ordered mine safe and sound.

i just paid for my daiku maryu pre-order, and now i'm flat broke.

Yes, Anime-Export does require payment when placing a pre-order. If you check their FAQ, I think that it states that payment should be done within a certain window of time after placing the pre-order. |

So I hesitated to long to pick up the Daiku Maryu Limited Black Color Version from Ami Ami and now it is sold out!  Does anyone know of another site that is carrying the black varient that is still available for pre order? |

I think those numbers are off, but even so even if you pre-ordered a item there's no guarantee you'll get one. Just look at all the pre-orderers people put in for the Bandai Frontier stuff, there were huge numbers of cancellations. It's basically a first come, first serve deal.
