I'm not sure where I heard this, but supposedly there is a gentleman in Japan who has just about every single jumbo machinder ever made. I know that Tom Franck is known for having one of the greatest collections out there and I'd love to see photos, however this other person in Japan is supposedly top dog.
Has anyone else heard of this man or heard a similar story? I know that a bunch of great people with great collections belong to RJ and other like sites, however there must be some avid collectors who could care less about posting photos of their collections or even contributing to these forums.
If this person doesn't exist and the story is total BS, then who is the top dog of jumbos? Better yet, who are the top five (subjective, I know)? Has anyone seen photos?

wouldnt be BS. i think the real exception may be garada. ive got friends in japan in their 70's who collect, so its not much of a stretch of the imagination, especially since they retailed for about 30 bucks back in the day. they werent paying 2000 bucks for grendizers, etc. i had a rich friend in kyoto whose brother was killed in a car wreck and his family kept his setion of their house as he left it. he had about 30 or 40 (cant really tell by looking and not counting) jumbos in rows that i had never seen up to that point. and i dont think he was any kind of noted collector. so without a doubt, this rumor would be true 50x over. also, theres a guy in my neighborhood here in norcal that i recently met (not on boards or anything) who has a mega collection. i dont think hes too interested in showing off what he has. i think there are a lot of these people around that maybe know about us and probably dont care, but we dont know about them.

1oldrobot,
Thanks for the insight. That is great info! To be collecting Jumbos at age 70 is not only impressive but inspiring. Having a fellow neighbor who collects and is right around the corner must be incredible! Has he shown you his collection? Has he ever made mention of selling and giving you first dibs? LOL!

lol. nice try, im first in line and i dont think i have a shot. plus, hes a rich older guy that would probably ask for ferrari money for a piece. i havent seen them. a local comic store introduced me to him when i walked in and was hunting for jumbos on my usual rounds. "yeah, i have that. yeah, i have that one. yep, got him." were the answers i got when i asked him about his collection. comic vendor stood by nodding his head. the older fella was a neighbor of mine in japan. i still see him when i go back to visit. his collection is especially great because he has a big buddha collection and it transitions into old toys to modern stuff. ive got a few pics around here, but i was more into buddha sculpts back then. the rule of buddha sculpts is that if youre into them, youre not into them at all. there are some direct influences from hindu art to buddhism to japanese dieties to japanese armor to japanese robots. his collection, to me, is the best ive ever seen. lots of older folks in japan collect, most since they were young. the otaku thing is a real deal in japan. so many of my adult friends have related stuff. my own collection is by far the weakest link in what ive witnessed, and im still pretty darn happy.

There's lots of rumors about big time collectors. I've heard that there was some guy in HK who claim to have almost every piece MIB and in double, also a guy in Thailand claim to have recently complete his collection of Jumbos, he supposed to have everything even a Garada. Seems like there's lots of people we don't know that have amazing collections, either they've start a long long time ago, either they don't have money problems.
Saito's collection is just simply amazing, for the jumbos, he only miss the Green Ghost C3 and Garada, almost all the rest is MIB, just a few loose but in an increcible shape. What amazing is that it's not only Jumbos, like Kingboy was saying, he also have an incredible collection of diecast, vinyl, and much much more.
So yes, there's people out there, we don't know that have collections far beyond our imagination. I honnestly dream of beeing able to meet them all.

^ You got to see Saito's collection too, if I recall. Lucky you! But then again, I would love to view your collection as well.

Heck I want to find out who has the largest stash and collection of Godaikins so I can buy a few they wouldn't mind turning loose of. Someone has got to have cases of them somewhere, since the toy stores from 85-89 were dumping them off at huge discount and clearance prices. I talked to a guy that said he used to have several cases of each in storage for a decade and then in the late 90s early 2000s he sold them all at toy shows except 2 mint examples of each Godaikins out of the cases. Which means he has 2 complete sets. He was not interested in letting go of 1 of his 2 complete sets......yet. I am still working to haggle a possible price haha.

Saito has become a good friend to both Mike and I over the years now. We have both been to visit him at his home. His collection is most impressive. He's also come here to San Francisco to visit me as well: toyboxdx.com/phorum/read.php?4,180278 Funny, I was pouring over his books over a decade before I met the man. Never would have thought. A huge asset to the hobby and an amazing human being!

Ha, yeah, stashes will keep coming out of the woodwork, but many will not, as the owners have no real reason to sell.
Crazy how many vids on youtube of collections.
Love those shots of Saito's collection. So cool that someone made the effort to document entire lines, for the reference, and enjoyment of anyone who picks up a book, or goes to a museum exhibit, not just hoard it.
Oh, and speaking of reference books, thanks to you jamooks who contributed from your stashes to "Super#1 Robot" with mix of diecast , and jumbos for different characters.
Also of book publishing, this guy:
Stuff is NOT stored this way now, but fun to watch. Related to R-J, Mark collects for reference book material, having a complete sample for each line like Shogun Warriors, Godaikin, Transformers, etc.,

Well, what is sad is that people do have stashes or hords of these, and do they really need 10 or 100 of each? Its sad you have to wait for them to get old or die before they will finally share the fun and love. It would be awesome if every once in a while, like the up coming Morphy auction, a bunch of this stuff can be shared with all the rest of us enthusiests who can only dream of seeing or touching some of these. Much less own them. You guys have no idea how awesome it is for Ed to let go of some of his. I don't know the guy and want to give him a big hug. He is giving us a chance to own a little bit of the diecast chogokin dream. Much love to you Ed Much love brother! And to the rest of those around the world that have hords of these great toys stashed away in some warehouse or storage unit, learn from Ed and share the love/toys. They get no love being packed up. And they're those of us that weren't as fortunate in financial ability to buy up all the stock. Now that we and guys like myself have some funds, we want to be able to love and play with these great toys too haha. Please don't get me wrong my friends, as this isn't a hostile message. I am just trying to encourage some hord sharing just so I and fellow under-collection collectors can lossen up some stock just to complete 1 set of a collection. Much love to all too.

xtrlowz75, i understand what youre saying. its kind of in line with the spirit of giving at xmas. however, i could tell on sight that my toys whooped the pants off of my friends toys on xmas day. im a jealous hoarder with my toys and dont share. i am happy when i go to bed at night knowing that i have 4 great mazingers mint in the box in storage that no one is allowed to see or touch. i know precisely where they are when i need them. and i want more! i want all of them. in triplicate or more! 100 is absolutely needed. 1000 is ideal. and yes, i was the awful kid that would jump and scream if i got sweaters for xmas, because by the time i was 4, it was either robots or a lousy december 25th through jan 5th for everyone nearby. before id throw my robot protest fits, id remind my parents that by law they had to feed and clothe me until i was 18, so fancy dinners and clothes were par for the course of having a kid they spoiled on a 2 foot raydeen. thats where my vice began. if i could have mainlined jumbos like heroin at 6, id have had melted polyethylene all over the family silverware. one of my buddies asked me last night "dude! this is what youve been talking about collecting?! wow, can i play with that guy?!" my answer was quick. "no, you cannot."

1oldrobot: Funny ass post man!
xlrlowz75: Thanks for the love bro, but if you've got the funds get on Yahoo Japan and go shopping. All the toys you could ever need can be easily had at auction. That or get on a plane and go to Japan and go hunting. That's what the rest of us hoarders did..
Oh, by the way, 50% of what Ed is letting go can be yours by next week if you've got the cash and the know how.
