I made what I thought was a decent bid but got blown out of the water. I'm not too upset because the stickers were peeling badly and the back of the God Mars head needed a repainting. Oh well, more time to save some $$ for a Voltes V or a Godsigma........I'll pull some equity out of my house if one of those show up!!!!!!

im ultra shrewd. if anything is more than a thousand bucks, i hope someone else gets it. i dont spend thousands on toys, even if i could. rarity is one thing, but im convinced there are enough of these covered in dust still sitting around junk shops with $25 stickers on them. i only want deal of the century, not just a deal.
ive seen some pretty awesome deals on this trip compared to what prices are in the US for jumbos. one big hint is to stay as far away from toy stores as possible, unless youve got unlimited expenditure and dont want to go the extra mile.
i am both sad and relieved to say that my days of collecting jumbos is soon coming to a close.

hi.
the main reason is that over the past year ive spent xx number of dollars (and yen) on jumbos. im putting a guitar line into production and can use whatever cash i have stashed here and there. i was thinking about a month ago where i could possibly get an "extra" 10K. well, jumbos ate that up pretty easy. also, the harder i look for collectibles, the more i pay. i seem to find just as many when im not looking for them specifically, and the prices are a heck of a lot less of a hustle.
i got a banged up T28 on this trip for next to nothing. after a few days of work and some stickers, i can get him looking great.
im not done acquiring jumbos, but not on the prowl in the usual costly places.
also, ive seen so many collections on this trip that are beyond cool that ive got the japanese robot sickness all over again. theres so much awesome stuff outside of jumbos.
im moving back here so hopefully this stuff will be accessible without having to choose between the mortgage or a robot.
UFO Catchers even have some killer collectible toys. i suck at that game, so my buddy has been winning stuff for me. when he hands me teddy bears and nightmare before xmas heavy metal figures at arcades i think people get the wrong idea. lol.

I'm also trying to stay away from throwing a lot of $$$ at Jumbos right now.
Since September, I've already spent more than I expected to and currently have a backlog of Jumbos sitting in the back of my shop waiting for me to find the time to restore them and add them officially to my collection.
So I am going to be giving most jumbos that are priced over a few hundred dollars a pass for the time being.

what a time to rest, huh? pre xmas and we are counting the beans we spent on jumbos. we get to resume regretful counting after the holidays again. if the upcoming second dose of common sense doesnt help us, nothing will.

Hi Mark,
at first thought , I thought you are giving up toy collection and if that is so I will hunt you down in SFO lol. So you already moved to Japan already? Which part of Japan are you at as I have a trip to tokyo coming up soon in Dec. Oh and congrats on scoring the T-28.
I have been thru twice the cycle of "giving up" jumbo. I sold off every piece of my collection in my JMs twice and end up here again , and of cos paying much more than what I sold. I guess in this hobby, you will meet your ups and downs, if this is in your blood, it is hard to give up LOL
best, D.O.E

hi! not giving up, just watching out the corner of my eye. i am staying in nagoya now and am not sure if my job will take to to tokyo or not. i really dont want to be in tokyo or yokohama because of the glow in the dark radiation fish killer problem. i still live in the SF bay area until i finalize stuff here. in the meantime, my USA job is done for the year, so ive been skateboarding here at the local skatepark and eating/drinking all night, puke in the morning, work on my reading and writing, jog at the castle, and repeat.
its funny. in japan people are so focused on "personality type" but it makes sense here. so many old skaters either still have or had jumbos, etc.
i sort of collected jumbos about 18 years ago, but didnt really know what i had and let them go foolishly. ill never do that again. as for the ultra rare and costly ones, ill wait for a few years until 3d printing settles on a format and advances. i dont mind repro at all. old is nice, but not getting any easier.
i still have no clue as to how many of each jumbo were made. is getter liger really so rare? or is he just rarely seen? my 500 bucks says to wait and see.

A T-28 sounds good , please put me in the list too ;D
Coincedentally I was thinking to list my handicapped liger a few days ago haha.
For Liger it wont be such a painful and long wait, it comes out quite often, if my memory is still working, there is at least 3 MIBS exchanged hands this year, and a few loose ones here and there. Not too bad. The Voltes and the 2 GODs are much more difficult to score ;D

hi. ive seen a few jumbos here so far. 2 for great prices but either damaged or not rare at all, and 2 that are really expensive. a lot of people who have them dont really know what they have, but understand it is worth something and maybe overdo it on price, like anyone would at first.
if i see more good deals ill pick them up. ill be back in the bay area soon.
if you sell your getter liger let me know. i love the thing.
last week i was looking stupid being drunk and riding my skateboard on the Osu shopping arcade. i had a bag of one piece characters, a demonic maneki neko, and a blow molded puffer fish. i was trying to do some trick going backwards, hit some guy, and we both fell down and my toys rolled out.
he saw my skateboard and toys before he saw me, and maybe figured i was in high school.
"damnit! watch where youre going! im 36 - getting to be an old man!"
i said "would you believe im almost 40?" he turned and looked at me and saw a 7 foot white guy bowing and picking up a bunch of toys."
"are you japanese?"
"nope."
"this skateboard stuff. can anyone do it? at any age? hey, that one piece piggy bank is pretty cool!"
i cant really remember why i left japan in the first place.

Luclin999,
Please share with the rest of the class what your two purchases were? Inquiring minds want to know. Pictures are a plus (LOL!!).

Disco Daitetsujin 17 which I probably paid a bit too much for (but at least it has the wings) and a Gorg which I nabbed for cheap.
Pictures come after I have them in hand and can see in person what I am dealing with.
Both will need a bit of TLC and some new stickers but shouldn't require too much work.
They will go in line behind the Combattra, Raideen, and Mazinger Z which are already in various stages of restoration in my shop.

Nice pick ups. I love the looks of the Disco D-17 with the Popy stickers! Having the wings is huge, not many have them. Congrats!
Can't wait to see how you've brought them back to life. You did an AWESOME job on your Mattel Grendy, so I know these won't disappoint.
