Fellow Collectors,
I'm in a quandry about what to do with a recent Jumbo Machinder purchase;
I recently bought a MIB, Battle Fever J that has never been taken out of the plastic nor ever assembled. Of course, I paid huge money for it, probably too much, but oh well, that's not your problem.
My question to you guys is whether I should remove it from the packaging, assemble it and display it alongside the rest of my Jumbos or should I leave it in its packaging.
I want to take it out, apply the stickers, assemble BFJ and proudly display him. I know that I would be lowering its monetary value but the joy from seeing him in the display case would bring value that far exceeded its purchase price.
I guess I just answered my own question but I'm still curious as to what you guys think. Please chime in with your thoughts...

This guy? www.ebay.com/itm/200813609741I can see your dilemma. The toy would be a beautiful display piece however you will almost certainly hurt the value to some degree by assembling it and applying the stickers. Personally, I want my toys out on display. And that thing looks Amazing. Also, (if this is the one you bought) it comes with a couple sets of repro stickers and personally I'd apply one of those and leave the originals sealed up in a ziplock bag so that *if* you ever did decide to sell it you could remove the repro labels and advertise it as "original labels never applied and still on sheet".

Good point luclin999, I will most certainly apply the repro stickers first (if I can bring myself to opening him up). Yes, that is the one I bought on E-Bay. I love the way BFJ looks and I want to see him displayed in the worst way.
I'm not a toy flipper so the price isn't my #1 priority, although I don't want to destroy the value totally. I think having the box and the original sticker sheet unapplied is still a major value add.
I would've been better off buying a loose one, but I couldn't find one and I've been looking around for quite a bit. There was a loose one on YJ recently but it was missing a leg and Kitsir told me that he doesn't repro the stickers, so I don't know where these repro stickers came from...if it wasn't Kitsir or WillOhio then I'm out of guesses.

Oh yeah, you have to display it... Buying something like that is way too cool not to be on display. That's a freaking awesome jumbo.

rodman,
It's a simple question. Are you in the hobby for the pretty box and still in plastic thing or are you in the hobby because you love the beautiful two foot tall toy and want to see it daily? I couldn't go through life with a toy that amazing in a box where I couldn't touch it and could only think about how cool it could be to have it out. I already have that, it's called google images...... either way amazing find and I hope you get joy from it one way or the other (open it)

Thanks Truecrud,
You guys are all correct....I will open it and assemble it!! 'F' the monetary value, I'm going to display it proudly and take a picture so we can all get some enjoyment out of it!

You need to video tape or at least take photos of popping the parts off the trees. I didn't even see this one listed. An amazing piece for sure. Are the repro stickers cut to peel out? Or did they scan the original sheet onto sticker paper? I am sure kitsir or Will would love to get a nice scan of the stickers to add for any Battle Fever owners needing stickers. Even the instruction sheets would be a thing of beauty to scan for others as well. Having the original box and everything, I don't know how much it would drop the value. Look at the recent Voltes auction, had the box and not complete, but commanded big dollars. I am sure there are some people out there wanting complete MIB and wouldn't assemble it. Congrats on the find and buy. Very cool and hope you get a lot of hours proudly seeing it displayed with the rest of your machinders. You can always toss in a couple old Mighty Max in the box and tell everyone you still have a never touched MIB one in there yet

Thanks DOE,
There is no right or wrong answer, but personally, I have to look at it everyday and get the enjoyment that I paid for. Deep down I knew I was going to open it from the start, I guess I just needed a little reassurance from my brethren here at RJ.com
Once I get back on my financial feet, I will set out to find a Voltes V or a Godsigma, whichever comes first. This search will take years, no doubt, but well worth it.

Even the instruction sheets would be a thing of beauty to scan for others as well. I have to second that making an archival high resolution scan of the sticker sheet would also be a good idea both for yourself as well potentially for others who may need replacements in the future. Especially since from what has been said, no one currently is offering reproductions of that particular set.

I'm hurting ATM from having spent just $400 yesterday for a Shogun Goldrake (most money I have ever paid for a toy to date..) so I can't even imagine the kind of hit that the Battle Fever must be like.

Nice pickup luclin999...Goldrake is an awesome machinder, tied for my favorite Mattel Jumbo along with Mazinger. Were you lucky enough to get the box included in that price? If so, you got a great deal. Those Goldorak boxes are tough to come by and they command a good price.
I never thought I would go that much for a Jumbo but I am so hooked on these things. Give it some time and that $400 will seem like a happy memory. Once you acquire all the Mattel Shoguns and progress into the Popy field, it's a whole new ball game.
The Popys as well as Nakajima, Clover, etc. are so much better and made of solid plastic parts versus stickers on the Mattel editions. I thought I would be satisfied reacquiring the toys of my youth, however it quickly turned into this unrelenting pursuit for Popy Jumbos.
Seeing pictures of the 'Big Time' collections on this forum certainly didn't help my cause financially. Eyeone, MikeDeco, Kitsir, D2squared, etc all have some serious, serious collections that are my inspiration. I also get tons of vicarious enjoyment from staring at their photos.
As far as the stickers sheets go...I will have to give that some serious thinking. My fear is that something could be lost in the mail or damaged. I know that I'd be helping the entire Jumbo community out by having repro stickers made but I'm going to have to get back to you guys on that one.

If so, you got a great deal. Those Goldorak boxes are tough to come by and they command a good price. Unfortunately no, just the figure with original missiles and repro harkken but it appears to be in great shape (I'll know for certain once it gets here). Well, for me I was imprinted early on by the Shogun figures and so I tend to appreciate the jumbos which seem to fit in aesthetically with them over other figures like Kamen Rider X or Tetsujin 28 or the Zords/Power Rangers stuff so that at least limits my scope down a bit. I'm not even much of a Voltron fan so Go Lion and Dairugger aren't really on my list unless I stumble onto them at like 50% off MSRP. Of the Popy figures I would definitely like Mazinger Z, Dangard Ace (another Shogun association), Gaiking (U5 or Popy) and a Popy Raideen (or at least his bow hand for a Mattel version..). My vintage collecting up to this point has been for the Takatoku/Bandai Macross line so I am used to shelling out $$$ for toys but the most I have paid for a Valkyrie to date has been $280 for my (mint) Strike in box so yeah $400 for Goldrake/Grendizer was a new high but I loved the smaller Mattel diecast version when I was a kid and always wanted a Jumbo Grendizer so.... If you don't have a scanner at home you can get an all-in-one printer/scanner usually for about $50 and copy the sheet to a file yourself or failing that take the sheet to a Fedex office store and they should be able to scan a high res copy for you for just a couple of bucks. That way you keep the sheets in hand and can just email the file to those who need it.

rodman75: the volts V JM MIB should be very hot cake if it is listed on ebay... wild guess US$8000? Since we already see from here that it is the top of the want list of many bros here...not to say those not in the community here..so is the godsigma as it apppears in most of the want list by the poll conducted here. luclin999: congrats on the start with the goldorak JM..it is a nice piece to start off with and should it should poison you further with the addiction ;D
