Congrats & nice score, I saw this & the red one too recently. I didn't know they were 22" large, if not I'd have been one of the bidders too. Lol..

They come up from time to time, WCRfan, so just keep watching eBay. I have seen several of them for sale since the summer.

The recent proliferation of these has greatly helped bring down the price. I remember when these were first introduced to ebay - they were selling for like 4X the current price! Hopefully significant stock of all Popy and other Jumbos will be discovered soon.

Yeah, that's true. Just a couple of months ago one went off for over $500. I got mine for under $200. Now, I am waiting for that big warehouse find of Voltes Vs or Combattlers. I have a standing offer right now for anyone on the boards for one of these in restorable condition. Make it known that I will pay $200! LOL!

but the maker obviously used the Popy as a model for making it. I may have to look over the two Dangards closely. The Peru jumbo has so many details of the popy and does look like a mold that shrunk about 10%. When I bought one last Summer, I had hoped it was the same size and intrigued me that it was smaller, but had the spots for where the wings would mount and other little details.

Not sure about that but doesn't the PE shrink after you've put it in the mold or it's the vinyl? Not sure which one but I remember something like that. And I think that the shrink value was around 10%, that might explain the smaller size if based on a mold made on the original one.
Maybe it's not clear what I'm trying to say here.
Anyway it's a nice bootleg and the combination of colors is really cool.

Thanks, Mike. I am going to get Will to redo those orangey stickers into a bright red (Mazinger color) and I think the combination of the three primary colors will really make it pop.
I think is clear what you are saying about the shrinkage. However, I wonder if maybe the maker simply cast a mold from a Popy toy and then simplified it and recast. This would also explain the shrinkage -- the mold cast may have shrunk in drying if they used some sort of plastic to make the initial mold before recasting in aluminum. This is just a wild guess, as I am not sure how they make these molds.

Just about done with the restoration. As a note anyone whom owns the Red/Blue bootleg Dangard (as i do)should note that it is (or at least the decals are) smaller in the main body/torso by about 10% than the yellow/blue/white edition. Peak at the legs...

I think your right on the PE and the shrinkage. The engineers always provide the CAD guys with that element to add to the parts to counter act it. In my laymans terms I believe the shrinkage is equivalent to a few coats of paint. I couldnt tell you how to measure that though?

For those of you that may not know, in that pic above, Will recreated the stickers from the old busted ones I pulled off my 'bot. Truly amazing. That chewed up one laying across the feet is the one he had to work with. Will, my hat's off to you.

blow molded PE shrinks? the wooden originals in the bandai museum are the same size as jumbos. theres no extra sizing to compensate.

This Dangard bootleg is not blow molded. Looks like its more of a standard recast. These things are pretty thick (in most places).

It might be vinyl that shrinks but I think I remember talking about that with some people making blow molded PE.
I have a big lack in my knowledge on how they were build, and I might be wrong, but I'm not sure that the wooden originals were used to create the master molds. Aren't they building a wax master to cast the iron molds? Maybe the wooden version are they to show sculpt and size like a protoype.
I need to search a bit more about that.
