@ 1oldrobot " i dont post here much anymore due to this board driving up prices. "
Well for what it is worth, you struck a nerve. How about "The internet in general" drives up demand. We don't influence people to the extent you give us credit for.
It is about supply and demand.
RJ, TBDX, CDX, Jumboland, Forum X, Site Y, are groupings of people that are passionate for the hobby of toys. We can influence, but purchases come down to personal decisions. Jumbos are just the current rage and a challenge to get in the US.
Some of us can reflect on Xabungle toys and how TBDX did some amazing photo shoots of these more common toys (and they were unloved and a bit ugly IMHO). Prices are still relatively low on Xabungle toys. The demand isn't there despite some great exposure and an excellent write-up.
As to Japan, well the currency exchange rate just changed, but for a long time it was quite cost prohibitive. For myself, I've had a challenge spending $1200 on plane tickets, $500 for lodging & additional transportation, $$ for food, and then getting ready to "save" on toy purchases. Time is money, and don't discount that currency spent. @ 1oldrobot, I believe you view on travel to Japan is quite jaded based on your location on the West Coast (from what I gather).
On pricing-- Mandarake's offer prices have had the biggest effect that I've seen on realized sales figures. Ebay Buy it now "stretch" prices haven't helped. Then information about our hobby has spread via the net and we just have more people enjoying & reconnecting with Japanese toys. Jumbos are special in the context of toy history and industrial design history.
@ 1oldrobot, blame the world flattening effects on travel, the net, supply, & demand, not RJ.

Oh 600,000 or so yen? Wow, still a steal. Doesn't the Leo itself usually go for that much? Also, these were in great condition. Looked unused. If I had the coin, I would have definitely put a bid on those.
Adminbot, I have no problem with prices going up. As you said, it is supply and demand not what we say on these message boards. The only thing these message boards can do is tell someone who isn't knowledgeable how much they should price something. I am always honest if someone asia me how much something sells for and not to low ball just so I can get it cheaper from him/her. If a seller puts something at an astronomical price, he just won't be able to sell it. Even on that show Toyhunter the guy is honest about that stuff to who he buys from. One of the things I don't like to see is someone who needs to sell his collection and collectors flocking to lowball them terribly on what items go for.

Well said, Ed (admin1). Don't forget Facebook. There are JM groups, and the other non-specific groups always post Jumbo related stuff too.

A bit of replies to an old post. I don't think a group of 10 - 20 active guys (not sure how many lurkers) on this forum, have really affected things overall. He did have family in Japan and flew back there from time to time for job related items, which was a good deal for him. I don't watch YJP as much I used to, but having some friends in the jumbo community, they do mention some auctions privately that I may be interested in. Don't think I saw the latest auction mentioned here for the Leopaldon. I did pick up the more recent Getter3 that had only the upper torso and missing both arms. While in poor shape, I think I can do it justice this next year and will become a unique fixer upper to give it a quite custom and distinct version Can you say dual pivoting and shooting fists? Oh, I knew you could.

Kind of a side thought but with this talk of travelling to Japan and Jumbo values and such... Just before Halloween of last year I went into a GoodWill to find some old size 60+ waist pants for my Fat ba$t*rd costume and lo and behold if I didn't see a beat to hell Shogun Gaiking jumbo.. It makes me wonder if I had the time and resources to scour such shops in Japan (if they really have thrift stores or Flea Markets and such) what undervalued treasures one could stumble across... Ahh he possibilities..

Curiousā¦. The seller of the boxed Ultraman set is also the same seller as the multiple spazers and spazer box. Collector dumping off for a major purchase( I wonder if something extremely rare has come up)? Someone who found a few high ticket items for resale or someone who is reselling and doesn't have items?

I saw urgent but recovery from fire would explain it. Ouch. That would suck but luckily enough they have multiple Spazers.

Did anyone here win the daidenjin? It went for what I thought it would. Would have loved to have that but it wasn't in the greatest condition and because I'm not a multi millionaire, I try to follow one rule when it comes to collecting toys. Don't overpay for something that will eventually show up at a price that you are comfortable with. Another will show up again eventually.

I kind of expected higher given it was Daidenjin, who seems to be the piece many need to complete Robot Factory set, but his condition wasn't great.

I was a bit suprised with the price as one sold for half that less than two years ago and it was in a much better state and there was not a lot of fight for it back then. I personnaly know how hard it is to get it but when you pay such a price, it's not for a piece you have to restore completely, even that rare.

I wonder if the seller's youtube video help get him the price he wanted.

And the seller closed the auction to that early. Not saying it is a scam but it doesn't look so good when something gets relisted and then closes early after it was auctioned earlier before. Maybe he expected it to get 1,000,000 Yen?

Prices have been fluctuating. Godisgma in that condition wasn't surprised at the final price. A broken Battle Fever for 158,000 yen w box and instructions I thought was a decent price. Not sure if I'll ever get a Godsigma or Daidenjin in anywhere close to that condition.

Seeing a Daidenjin w that had a broken piece below his head go for the price it did on YHJ probably makes him the most expensive hero Jumbo.
That's the 2nd one within almost a 2 month span. I wonder if we will start seeing more of these come out.

Yeah, $9208 is pretty expensive. I saw a poorly listed Voltes on ebay after it ended for $8100.
