Darn I'm gonna have to add this to my backlog of Gunpla to build. If I do end up buying this, I will certainly move it to the top of the list like priority built just so I can experience what this 3.0 technology is all about. Everything else can continue to be on the backlog list.

Not yet but from what I can tell it's a brand new design from the ground up with improved articulation and "real" colors like two shades of white and blue. A new way to attach the armor with the armor even having sliding pieces when you move as joint, there's even the optional LED lights. I might have to get this, I haven't built a Gundam model in years.

It is kinda hard to explain the difference to a casual/non gunpla fan, but I will try to help out the best I can. This version 3.0 RX-78-2 will be the 6th regular MasterGrade release. If you watch the video, you'll see that there is the MG RX-78-2, then the version 1.5, then the MG Ver.Ka, then the MG OYW(one year war) and five years ago they released the MG RX-78-2 version 2.0. Now to the casual Gundam fan, they all pretty much look the same. But for those that like building these models, there are a lot of differences. Mainly the difference is in the structure and frame. With each version/revision more modern technology gets incorporated into the frame. The 3.0 frames highlight is that the armor panels slide and moves with the frame. Kinda like when you bend the Riobot Gurren Lagann's legs, the thighs armors slides.
The biggest difference between this 3.0 and the previous MG is visually present. The armor and look of the 3.0 version is based on the 1/1 statue over in Tokyo. Because of this, people are saying they are just upscaling the RG (real grade). There are multiple tones of white, gray, red and blue on this kit just like on the RG. So the visual difference is that this version is based on the looks of a real life Gundam, whereas, the 1st MG was based on the looks of the cartoon, the version 1.5 also tried to look more cartoon accurate. The MG ver.Ka was Katoki Hajime interpretation of how he wanted the RX-78-2 to look like. The MG OYW version is based on how the RX-78-2 looked like in the OYW. So in short, this one doesn't look like the anime.
One of the biggest disappointments in Gunpla building with old kits is that the finished kit looks nothing like the box art or the sample pictures on the side of the box. With the new advancement in the technology and the multiple color runners giving modellers lots of color separation, completed models now looks way better and more professional. Like I said many times, after building the RG and seeing how nicely it look, I got hooked back into Gunpla and I am no professional when it comes to Gunpla.

Oooh. If it is an upscaled RG that will mean it won't require much paint!

Thats a pretty neat design. Looks like they are doing a bunch of Riobot GL moving armor bits integrated into this MG 3.0. Impressive. I wonder how well the build quality of the finished model (no paint or mods) is. Even the MG Unicorn Gundam has some issues here and there with the joints (like some areas are not very secure or need reinforcement/fixes to make it tighter).
I am not that big into building a kit, so just building one MG Unicorn took me a long time and a lot of effort to finish it. If the finished figure is still kind of floppy and doesn't look good without paint, I'll have to skip, as nice as the 3.0 tech is.

Here is a little update from the Tokyo toy show on this. www.gunjap.net/site/?p=138181The pictures shows the complete out of box build with only the clear stickers applied. No paneling or paint. This is for all that wanted to see how it looks without paint or touch ups from a professional.

Wow...That's amazing. Thanks SuperGetterV. It's insane. I also might have to get this.....AmiAmi's out but HLJ still taking order.
As far as sliding thigh armor goes, I thought Bandai already had that on one of the Metal Composite, either Unicorn or the RX-78 Origin?

This basically a 1/100 RG HLJ charged me but hasn't shipped due to the holidays. It is pretty much an upscale of the RG but with a better inner frame. The sliding mechanism is also much better.
