Ok, I know U5 came out with a Mazinger Z that was supposed to be a replica of the original. I have one. I also have a Popy Mazinger Z. Here's the question... Did they make 2 different Popy versions? I've seen 2 different types of wheels on them. One that's like the U5 and one that has the wheel trucks similar to the Mattels. I have the one that is supposed to have snap on wheel trucks, with 8 wheels per foot. What was the difference? Age? Any info would be appreciated.

Piggybacking on this. Another question. The Popy Mazinger has what looks like a button on the top part of the cuff of the fists. The U5 reissue does not have this. What is it?

I have another question about Great Mazinga. I have 4 of him and they are all different. One had a head that is noticeably taller than the other 3, 2 are just alike but the take out glider on one is glow in the dark, then the 4th has knees that are different. While shedding light on Mazinga Z can anyone shed light on great Mazinga also? I've been buying lots and everything else and I'm finding all kinds of goodies but I'm not sure if I've got anything good or just knock offs???!!!

Well, where to begin with great Mazinga... Ok, first edition Mattel had the wheels molded to the foot and had the split knees. 2nd edition had snap on wheels and the separate molded chest piece. (First had the chest piece as well). 3rd edition had a sticker chest piece and snap on wheels. Glow in the dark pilder, I've never seen before. Repro maybe? Here's a site you may find interesting if you haven't been there before... www.collectiondx.com/category/machinder/jumbo_machinder

Just looked and you described 2 of them right off. One has molded wheels, one don't. The 3rd could be a repo I guess but I don't know how to tell. What about the one with the big head?

Big head means something... Serious brain fart right now, lol. See the link on my previous comment, if it's not in there, it'll come to me.

There's a huge amount of Mazinger. Popy did several versions, where the wheels are different, the paint on the head, the ship in the head. I don't know all of them as I'm not a huge fan of variants. I've always think that the gold horns was only for U5 but it seems that one of the early version of the Popy Mazinger was also with the gold horns. Just saw that recently and was surprised about this. Chris from Italy can probably let us know more about it as he's a big expert on the subject. As for Great Mazinger, the one with the taller head is simply call Tall Head and it's the most sought after as I think it's the first edition. It was then scaled down for a nobody knows reason. And there's a few other versions. Again, not sure of the order and amount so I won't say stupid things. What's interesting to know is that the Mazinger Jumbo was the Toy of the Year back in 73 or 74 and sold in huge amounts. It was a total winner back then. And what is more surprising is that when I've discuss with several Japaneses people that where kids in Japan back then, they only remember Mazinger and not all the other Jumbos. Even a big collector who has a huge Jumbo collection told me that he didn't saw the other when he was a kid.

I was just kind of curious about yhe versions because mine is missing the wheels and I can't seem to find a set. I was going to buy another Mazinger for parts but then I noticed the wheel differances.
