I am pasting this post that I made in the Metaltech thread here in the Jumbo thread also... for ease of communication you can reply to this post in the Metaltech thread and I can answer any questions you have.. thanks guys.
Ok, was chatting with HLpro on social media and I was given permission to pass along some info.
I was shown the first few characters in the new line of Jumbos, its Grendizer and Mazigner Z
Grendizer: you guys have seen this one already so I wont bother describing him but what you don't know yet that I can now tell you is that there will be a HUGE spazer that you can buy and the Grendy Jumbo goes in through the back and his head and shoulders come out the front.. the jumbo mates up with some "arms" that are molded around the sides of the spazer so he has that "arms wrapped around the side" look.. when he is not in the spazer I think I remember a plastic cover that popped on the front to hide the arms and make it a clean disk like on the metaltech spazer... but it was months ago that I saw it so I could be wrong (but I don't think so) Its about the size of the old Popy Jumbo Machinder Spazer but looks more realistic, no "handles" or anything on it but it did have I think 4 small wheels on the bottom of it so it can roll along the floor.
Mazinger Z: This one looks real good to me, its a real clean sculpt, looks like the pilder comes out, two rocket punches, wheels on the feet and it comes with 4 Iron Cutter blades that snap in to either forearm.. (they assured me that they wont fall out and that they look good when not installed) but here is the kicker.. Its got a Scrander! I did not see a belt but I don't exclude one.. maybe, maybe not.
The sculpt itself looks super clean, I would say that just from what I see so far it would look real nice sitting next to a Great Mazinger Jumbo Machinder.. I didn't see anything like "missile racks" on it, it just looked real clean and modern but I still got that emotional reaction that I get when I see a classic Jumbo but with a slightly different flavor to it.
In this new line they are experimenting with the first release color scheme ..they can go with either a "action figure" type color scheme or a "classic Jumbo" type scheme.. they are still experimenting, they may release BOTH color variations depending on how it goes.
I like both figures so far, I kind of lean in the direction of Mazinger Z, just mostly because of how that character looks to me in a Jumbo.. my first figure ever was a 1978 Great Mazinger when I was a little kid and this thing just pushes the right buttons for me. If this HLPro Mazinger Z existed back in those days I would have chose him over my Mattel GM any day. That's how good that sculpt is looking. I forgot to ask about things like "waist stickers" and all of that but it probably wouldn't have done any good to ask anyway because they are still experimenting on what looks the coolest for the initial release. I think its still pretty much "wide open".. they can do whatever at this point.
If anyone has any questions I may remember more..
Oh, that statue they did with Grendy's hand and Duke Fleed... those are all pre-sold, someone evidently bought the entire run of those even before it went into production.. no word on who bought it.
Other than that, he said that they were busy as hell working on a bunch of different projects, everything is running on-time and going smoothly.. they are making so many different items right now that they cant take on more for the time being... a lot of it is in the vinyl world but its also the diecast stuff too..
umm.. Also we talked about Robot Japan and its members (you know who you are).. on behalf of HLpro Id like to thank you guys personally for your valuable input on the projects that were shown. You guys are an awesome wealth of information and some of the toughest critics in the World. If something earns a 50% approval rating here on RJ, then its dead-set to sell real well with 80% of the buyers in the world that just walk into a comic shop somewhere in the EU, Middle East or wherever, because the average buyer just isn't as knowledgeable as you guys are. But you tough ba$t*rds REALLY ARE helping the scene with your comments and you know who you are. When these new ones come out you should feel proud that there is some of "you guys" in these things. Hlpro has got a tough job trying to make everyone happy at once with so many different tastes and opinions out there among collectors and regular "off the rack" buyers.. they have to sift through all the contradictions and come up with a figure that both rabid collector AND "average Joe collector" is going to accept. So again, on behalf of HL Product we thank you guys.
