Well, the only noticeable difference in sculpt is the head, really. It's got the same head the 01R+ had, and maybe the figure is a few millimeters taller (?) from what I saw, but don't quote me on that. It's basically a 01R+, not limited and with a different paintjob. Hopefully I'll get a copy soon, just a matter of days/weeks my collection needs more Mazinger Z hehe. here: Pilders... gx-01 vs gx-01R vs gx-01R (40th)

here: Pilders... gx-01 vs gx-01R vs gx-01R (40th) Oh, thanks Treatment. Yeah, they fall into the "head sculpt" category as far as I'm concerned (even if they can be considered accesories too). But I didn't know there were differences between the 01R's and the 40th's. Huh. Also, didn't know 01R's pilders were so big though... the new ones are practically the same size as the GX-01's pilder. Also, the 01R pilders were a lighter red.

Agree, excellent review Chachi! The 40th anniversary one definitly have a much better sculpt than gx-01r. Nah. It has a different head sculpt, but not a better head sculpt IMO. Some like it better, and some don't. But unlike the GX-01R, I've never seen any episodes in which Mazinger's face resembled the GX-01R+'s face sculpt. }D

Lol To me, the best Soc maz mold is GX1R, gx07, aaaaand GX45. That what i call ANIME ACCURATE

Agree. The GX-01R is the best SOC representation of the Toei 1970's Mazinger, and the GX-45 is definitely a spot on anime accurate SOC representation of Shin Mazinger. The GX-07 is a great SOC representation of the manga and Mazinkaiser OVA Mazinger Z. However, the head of the GX-01R+/40th Ann Mazinger Z is just a very nice and sharp original sculpt by Bandai, but not very anime accurate. }D

As kids back then, we didn't really care. However, the GX-01R+ face-sculpt was the one I remember from the stickers and posters we used to hoard back in the day.

The artist who worked on MZ vs ADS (1975) should've been the artist for the MZ episode series (1972), as this artwork looks way better than the original anime series. Go Nagai had such a kickass team of artists it looked like they were often calling in sick and working split-shifts so often, because the episodes were artistically so inconsistent. It only got better towards the end of the series, but the kikaijus by then were just cheesy drawings except for just a small few. The kikaiju Klabas-P9 in episode 90 looked really stupid.... one of his hands was a large vacuum funnel! lol Even Gatchaman's artwork beats the Maz episode series, and Gatchaman was already on TV earlier that same year. I'm happy and satisfied with my GX-01R, GX-45, and GX-49; I don't wanna collect variants of those SOCs. zozo-mag

Even Gatchaman's artwork beats the Maz episode series, and Gatchaman was already on TV earlier that same year. Oh and what a difference!!! Gatchamans Artwork is from Tatsunoku studios which is LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than anything Toei Studios did,or ANY other studio of the time including Sunrise they were THEE BEST studio artwise,Casshern,Polymar,Gatchaman,Time Bokan,Yatterman,Ippatsuman{Gayatuken Oh,SankanOh},Speed racer,Gold Lightan,Tekkaman,Calendarman{Kingstar Robot},Gordian etc etc its not even a fight, its a killing in comparison. Mazinger is laughable in comparison,I dont care how much of a fan someone is of Mazinger/Grendizer if you cannot see how much better Tasunoku studios is,even the imagination of teh studio let alone the art, your artistic eye is wonky!..Its like comparing Davinci to Christmas coloring book art. Sorry to go off on this, but just had to give this studio all the credit they deserve.BTW this isnt aimed at you Magengar just drawing a comparison and how much time doesnt matter in how good anime is,actually the later the art in mainstream cartoons the worse it got really in most cases..time doesnt play a factor at all..its talent, only OVAs can say differently..and some modern anime..

I always thought that BBTS is about 1 month behind, since they will release Voltes on the last week of Jan, I'm not too worried...

GX-01R+ and GX-01R 40th Anniversary Custom. I'm sort of torn between which one actually looks better... }D GX-01R+ on the left is definitely my favorite. I prefer the lighter blue color. All the highlights a nicely done.

You know what's weird?
GX-31V 40th is scheduled for release in japan this saturday (1/17).
Yet none of the 40th SOCs are so far listed by official Amazon/Bluefin in the US. There's a bunch of 3rd-party/marketplace scalpers there offering, but no official Amazon/Bluefin.
Just weird.

All the highlights a nicely done. The one on right has the limbs from GX-01R I believe, its a custom,as the limbs on the new GX-01R+ are much closer in color to the older GX-01R+
