finally got a 40th voltes v, there is indeed improvement on this figure in comparison to the respect for voltes one specifically around the joints... the ankle tilting oddness is gone and the hips are much much tighter... as well as the shoulders as stated by other reviewers... I wish these joints improvements existed in my respect for voltes version now ...

Does anyone here have a bit of looseness on their the waist of voltes? Mine seems to have some play, I can rock it a bit forward and backward.

Much like the first GX-31, I have a feeling there will be a quiet 2nd production run on the version. If we see more of these soon (a month or two), that's it.

Did anyone that got the 40th Maz actually like it? I'm looking for feedback from people who have owned any other SOC Maz before or not.
I am not a big SOC guy, but have a ton of Amazon credit to use. I'm in no rush.
Honestly, if it is as blatantly metallic as the voltes is, I don't think I will like it that much. Let me know.

I like the new one, the metallic finish does not stand out that much, it won't sparkle like a disco ball don't worry and overall, the figure is nicely done. Good sculpt, nice heft, it's your typical SoC Mazinger Z. If you have any SoC Maz, and like it, you're probably going to like this one too.

The paint is just too metallic for my taste, and for some reason, I'm not liking the head sculpt as much as I do the regular GX-01R's. }|

I got 01 and 01-R as well, and I still much prefer the 40th. Not exactly sure what you mean by "blatantly metallic as voltes". The coloring or "metal"ing on both Maz-40th and Voltes-40th are fine to me.

The head sculpt is indeed less reminiscent of the classic 70's Mazinger Z. That may be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your tastes. The highlight of the paint apps really are the burnt/weathered effects applied to the limbs and torso. I really like them, it makes it look like Maz just came back from a fight with a fire-breathing kikaiju, hehe. Then again, maybe you won't like the metallic paint, it just depends on your tastes. Before tossing 70-80 dollars on this figure, make sure you like it

When I look at pics of 40th voltes the way the metallic colors pop so much and stand out he looks like his colors don't go well together. The red bits look really out of place against the blue, etc.

Mainly a super vintage collector. I really would just buy an SOC Arcadia with the credit but it it way too expensive on Amazon still. The Maz is really cheap but I can never find really good pictures of it, other than stock photos. I'll have to go back through this thread.

As such, here's a previous pic of my 01/01R-40th/01R: They're all good, but I still much prefer the 40th's presence overall. Especially the face-sculpt, which doesn't look derpy like the 01R's...

Now see, that's the first picture I've seen where I think it looks good. I think if you look back at gold's in depth pictures of the 40th voltes you will see what I am talking about. To me, since there is so much more red on the figure than the Maz has, that on voltes the red can look too dark or too bright against the lighter blue paint, depending on the lighting. That made me nervous about how the Maz would look in person with the chest wings being the same shade and also the scramjet being heavy on that color. Do you get the impression of what I'm saying when 40th Maz is wearing his scrander? I think the scrander overall is the last thing from stopping me getting one of these. I agree on the face. It's nice and sharp. I didn't know it had weathering, not the biggest fan of that. I think my ultimate version of this figure would be the 40th body with yellow painted horns, the mid blue limbs of the original, and the polished limb sections from the 01R for a old school chogokin look (or the painted silver limb sections for a more modern SOC look).
