Is it worth it to get the popy version? It's at least 4 times as much in cost. I have the LJN but may be upgrading. What is interesting about this toy is it is made in the USA. I know there are adjustments that were made, but even the adjusted shogun warriors were all made in japan. It may be the only true jumbo made in the USA. Interesting.

The popy is awesome but for me I just have the LJN, there are other JMs I'd like to get before replacing LJN with Popy. The additional features are cool but the Popy box artwork is always one of my favorite parts.

You can always do the popy custom upgrade if your LJN is not mint...

Yes. There are other jumbos I should be getting before upgrading. Like, "cough" Getta 3. Damn that's an expensive little ba$t*rd.
I know you can do a popy upgrade but without the missiles shooting out of the lion's mouth, it just won't be enough for me. Just like if I get a Daltanious, I need a lion head that shoots. To me, the missiles are a big part of the legacy for jumbo machinders. The designers always intended it to be that way.
Oh and also, green missiles. Awesome!

Were you able to get a Popy Jumbo Golion? If so, where did you get one at?

Ah, thread resurrection. I haven't seen any popy ones listed in awhile. And I only have the LJN, which is fine by me. John Olson did make some repro Lion mouth missile shooters.

I got one 2 years ago for a decent price. Great condition and came with 3 green, 2 red missiles. Wrote about it in another thread. I purchased a LJN commander sword and have it hold that. Looks great. As I said before, it’s a way better piece than the LJN Voltron. Especially if you are a Voltron collector.
Wes, how did those launchers turn out? Don’t remember seeing those posted anywhere.

I had heard that the LJN's face is more of a flat blue and the Popy's is metallic blue. Do you happen to have any close-up photos of yours?

Couldn’t get to that Facebook photo. All good. Do the missiles fire just as well? Ever think of doing a Voltes V repro? Sure there’d be a lot of interest. I posted the differences on one thread. Here’s what I posted about the head. Head - the LJN version head is molded orange yellow. Popy version is molded in black. LJN left the eyes and dot on the head the same color. Popy - parts of the head are painted a metallic red. LJN is painted bright red. Read more: robotjapan.proboards.com/thread/21384/lion-jumbo-question#ixzz5jFyITFIj

I believe the missiles would shoot with John's repro shooter. The only "repro" of Voltes which I have done, was the 3d print for a combiner version. Tristan (gravewolf) has been printing a regular version of Voltes
Below, is an old, early photo. I really need to to update photos on my hobby Facebook page, lol

I guess a good comparison would be the Matchbox Voltron vs the Godaikin/Popy one. I always wanted the one that had all those accessories and shot missiles. Same with the LJN and Popy. The Popy one is far superior in plastic used and gimmicks. The only good thing about the LJN version is the sword.
