I was just thinking,I have missed a preorder or two,by not reading every single new post in every thread.Wouldnt it be a good idea to have a sticky part of this section SOLELY for the purpose of announcing preorders? WITH NO extra babble?
So a NEW post indicator would be only for a headsup when preorders start on a toy? I HATE being late on preorders by a few hours or a day cuz i didnt read every post.
It would be reserved for when someone first sees a toy go up on preorder, and possibly subsequent releases on Amazon etc.for the same toy would be acceptable, and any member can post.Just no post saying"i just preordered mine too!" and stuff to that effect.
Just solely when one sees any preorder go up for overseas like AmiAmi,HLJ,Anime Export etc,and mainland USA,like BBTS or Amazon. What do you guys think?Because I feel its a growing necessity.EVERYONE has been late to preorders at some time!

Ah no, the less people know the less competition I will have at midnight trying to place a pre-order at AmiAmi.

The way I see it, it falls along the lines of this forum's unwritten policy of not posting active eBay listings. So people wont start bidding against each other (or so that is the excuse along with price gauging).
So if this idea of pre-order sticky takes place, then we should also have a sticky regarding live auctions. Fairness to all!

Then I should ask my friend in Japan to pre-order stuff for me, and be the very first! Nah, the way I see it, I'm more than happy to let you guys get your stuff first, mess with it, maybe even break it or damage it, and then post about it so I don't make the same mistakes with my stuff. With age comes wisdom my friends... I used to want everything first, but now I find it better when someone experiments on their stuff, so I don't have to. }D

Not a bad idea, it'll be sort of a like a "Headsup" thread but will just only have the announcements, no other comments allowed?
I'm ok with this if the other Mods are okay with it.

Twitter is faster.
Most retailers, including the Japanese ones, have twitter accounts. And they twit when a pre-order will open. Which is way faster than a post here.
Still it will not guarantee that you will not miss the pre-order!

I agree with Baron AND the others. Perhaps something like the following... So here goes...
1... Pre-Order announcements only:The PO ad, the whole PO ad, and nothing but the PO ad. Just ONE pic from the PO ad and it should not be hot-linked. If anyone wants to see more pics, go to the website. This will avoid the thread from becoming cluttered with pics. . . 2... No comments:That includes one-liners, pics, life-stories, dramas, robogasms, frenzied drooling, miscellaneous and off-topic one-line and one-word comments, or anything such as " I pre-ordered mine"..... " I can't wait!"..... " I'll pass"..... " Thanks for the heads-up!" ....." Gee, I wish it were blah blah blah"..... " It doesn't look anime-accurate"..... " It's out of scale"..... " I've got the inside scoop blah bla---" ... Stop it, already.Just Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it.Schmbluuuuuuuuuugh All credits and biskits go to the original person who posted the original PO announcement. If anyone wants to Thank the original person who posted the PO Announcement they can thank that person by clicking the LIKE button and just leave it at that .
. .
3... Please check the PO Thread FIRST: Chances are the PO ad may have been posted already. Don't post it again, Don't post it elsewhere, and Don't start any new threads for it. PERIOD.
Everyone wants to be the first to post some new discovery from outer space, and they immediately start new threads for it without checking to see if a thread already exists. And then folks wanna start yet another thread just to opinionize, romanticize, and babble on incessantly about their favorite What-ev-er. Additional threads on the same topic (such as POs) are like Committees: USELESS.We don't need a sub thread for a vice thread for another thread for a thread that already exists... it's redundant, it's MeMeMe-ish, and it disrespects the Admins' and Moderators' efforts to keep the forum neatly organized. . . 4... RESPECT Everyone:
No bickering in the slightest. Don't even roll yer eyes. Don't even hiss and snap. Don't even throw shade. Wanna slap-fight? Do it privately in PM or private email outside of Robot-Japan. If something about the PO announcement doesn't satisfy you, discuss it in private. Also, treat the PO announcement the same way as you'd treat a live auction... ...this is why it is best NOT to comment in the thread during a Pre-Order stage with comments like " I pre-ordered mine!" Seriously, we would rather NOT know who pre-ordered until afterthe item's regular public release. Don't brag it or mention it, just silently place your pre-order and move on. After the PO dateline expires and your toy arrives you all can shout for joy all you want... Not Beforehand. . . 5... Be Realistic, and Be Optimistic:
Not all Pre-Order announcements are golden. By that I mean the manufacturer should have enough units for everyone not just here at RJ but in thousands of other web groups as well. Reality check: There's never enough units for everyone during a PO stage. Therefore, we need to stop treating this like it's a competition.
If you missed a PO or a PO deadline, It's Not The End Of The World. The item will go on regular sale and you can still get it even if it doesn't include that TWE fakeazz "bonus sword". If the PO item is just a Web Exclusive and you missed it... I'm sorry... ...be a grown adult and learn to accept the loss. I miss more POs than anyone else here at RJ. But that doesn't kill my joy for this hobby, and it doesn't stop me from admiring the new toy even if I only get to see it in pictures. If I wanna see it in real life, I'll just get on the bus to Baron's house and see it displayed there! I respect everyone and anyone who nails a PO... it shows you hold your collection in very high esteem, as you should rightfully do so.......... ...but you also should know where your head is at, and where you are. If you expect to nail every single PO ever, you're ignoring your soul reason why you joined this hobby in the first place. Don't be Vane about it. zozo-mag

Agree with Gold. Take also note Robot Japan boards gonna have a little premium consideration and status now, that means we count on everyone to act and discuss as "good people" lead as example and behaviours. "Elders showing the path to the young generations".
About this thread, maybe we can have it in different forum section to avoid digging the items matching the collections... Once preorder switching to "in stock" status, we keep it temporary, then delete it. -> this could be more a kind of feed news about PO and avaibility. I will digg the tools from proboards to see if there is a tool dedicated for that. If not, I will ask help from coders to find a solution to create a living area for this.

thank you guys,Lejam and Gold!and very thorough Magengar you covered it!and your free ANYTIME to come by and view or even play with my toys old buddy!
OK getting back..We all post as soon as we see it anyhow, nothing is going to be different except WHERE the info is!this way its in ONE PLACE instead of all different threads,
And CFF,to be respectful, there are no guarantees in life, just trying to get things more helpful for us,and a better chance than at not missing a preorder, nothing is foolproof..as for Twitter not everyone uses or has and its up to being friends with all different companies to get announcements, and retailers dont post every single preorder on Twitter, and we all use different stores,so that is not feasible, and frankly way too much,Im here every day I hardly ever use Twitter. This is for everyone HERE,not just Twitter members.
Thanks for your support guys, maybe some people will find this too "unselfish",but we are all friends here and collectors ,we should stick together!
Please LeJam let us know updates thanks good friend!
++++ MODS: it would be good in every section to have their own,but we should try it with ours first,..We can keep it to Modern super Robots {to include ET toys also,Im really getting tired of going to 2 sections,NO ONE in the Revoltech section is interested in ET toys,the only posters are from here,I realize they are not diecast but they belong here..at least in preorder thread if you dont want to change them to this section,even though they belong here,we should take a vote on bringing ET back over here}

It's true what Lejam sez about keeping it temporary. After all, POs only last as long as the advertisement promotion says so. Keep the Pre-Order ad up for the duration of the manufacturer's Pre-Order promotion. After the PO deadline expires and the new item becomes publicly released we can keep the ad up for another two weeks and then delete it. This will save space and bandwidth so new PO announcements can be posted. Example: GoLion Pre-order announcement posted here until its expiration date (11/20) and then it goes to public release after 11/20... keep that "Available Now" announcement posted here for just two more weeks and then delete it since by then everyone can search for it online at any of the popular online retailers. The PO thread doesn't have to grow in posts pages and numbers, because, Again, pre-orders are only temporary promotions... ...It would miraculously be The Consistently Shortest Thread in RJ History! The KOB GoLion is not gonna be on PO status from now through next year's Winter. GoLion's PO announce posted now until 11/20 (plus 2 additional weeks), and if a new toy appears Up-n-Coming, post it in the thread as well... ...by then we'll be halfway or already done with the GoLion news feed anyway. This can be a weekly, or bi-weekly, or monthly PO news feed. I used to see flash banners at the top of the forum index... perhaps that can be the location to place the live feed? Or, place the flash banner for the PO announcements exclusively in the official PO Thread. Visitors and members will then know where to look in the PO thread for news of any upcoming and new toys. Makes sense? zozo-mag

I wonder if it would be beneficial to also have the thread visible to only members, which might be a good compromise as it helps the community here, but avoids some of the external competition.

I wonder if it would be beneficial to also have the thread visible to only members, which might be a good compromise as it helps the community here, but avoids some of the external competition. On one hand: That wouldn't be a bad idea. But for what purpose? On the other hand: I doubt there would be anything such as "external competition"... Because fans are busy finding the same POs and TWEs information posted at their own respective web sites, blog sites, forums, web groups, and any community forum online who all share this hobby in common. Any new products that sound off here at RJ is sure to be sounded off in any other forum online. Making the thread visible to Members Only would be as effective as installing a screen door on the hull of a submarine. Even if the thread were locked, it won't guarantee us any 'early-bird' or 'first-come' exclusivity to new products. Manufacturers will advertise their products online, and perhaps even send out memos to web community groups and websites related to this hobby, including sites such as CollectionDX and Robot-Japan, etc. etc. This hobby community is too vast world-wide to worry about any such thing as 'external competition'. There's no way around it, and it can't be avoided. Pretty much the same thing as competing for items on eBay. This hobby community is very large. And We are the target market whenever new toy merchs come up. The best we can do is try this thread idea, and hope everyone will be happy as they manage to secure their item after viewing some PO or TWE announcements whenever possible. ------------------------ Also, when was the last time anyone here ever used an actual paper Calender and a Pen? Keep a paper calender or monthly planner and a pen right beside your monitor... When POs and TWEs get announced in the specific thread, grab your pen and mark your calender for the dates of those new items, that way you won't miss deadlines ahead. Happy Grail Hunting to All. zozo-mag
