-Check out the discussion attached below....
I think the Machine Dragon is probably worth about $180 , but do you all agree on my other price estimates too? They were my "best guesses".
-Ed *******************older discussion *********** Hi Ed,
Convoy is indeed Optimus Prime. Machine Dragon is the Diaclone version of Machine Saurer of the Magnemo line, looks like a cyborg dragon with shoulder launchers. I'm definitely going to check out that BBS, and please do share this discussion there.
Thanks for your help,
A
Hi A
Please refresh my memory on what you are calling Convoy and Machine Dragon. I probably know them under a different name or know them by picture. Fortress X has been going for about $600 on a good day complete and boxed. Personally, I would spend up to $750 if it was perfect. I've seen an incomplete one squeak out $200.
The Devastator Gift Sets haven't come up on auction for at least 2 years (that I have seen). I can tell you what I think is a fair price, $400. That set has lost a good deal of its uniqueness (to me) with all of the reissues, knockoffs, and simillar Transformers.
If the Convoy is the 1st Optimus Prime, it sold for $700 recently on e-bay. The Diaclone drivers and name plates do make that set unique.
I could share this discussion there and get a consensus. True TF fans will probably flame my cost estimations as being a bit low. Personally, I feel Takara made so many toys that Diaclone's are still out there for a good price.

Hi Ed,
Can you tell me the rarity and price for these Diaclones:
> > Convoy > > Fortress-X > > Machine Dragon > > Devastator Giftset (first and repaint version)
It seems the only pieces I see on ebay are the G1 Transformers cars, Dinobots, and the Diakron/Kronoform releases. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
A

No way.
Those prices were current about a year and a half to two years ago, but they've all dropped due to the availability of new transformers (Diaclone's became sought after when there was nothing new out there but Beast Wars) and, of course, the economy.
I got my 100% complete Fortress X for $450 and it even came with a worn box. I've seen Great Robot Base go just as cheap and he's the most valuable toy from the series. I haven't seen a Battle Convoy (not just "Convoy") for sale recently, but he hasn't gone that high for a long time. Besides, the only difference between Battle Convoy and a first release pre-rub Prime with type 1A trailer is a few decals and the drivers. The Diaclone Devastator giftset would never go that high either.
It's also ALWAYS important to clarify, when buying Diaclone, what company distributed it.
Takara produced Diaclone directly in Japan. THose are the true originals and they are of the highest quality. Ceji/Joustra and Gig produced Diaclone in Europe shortly after, but the quality was highly inconsistant and rarely matched those of the originals.
In short, I wouldn't do it, unless you're unwilling to keep checking ebay until they pop up again.

[quote author=rednecktex Being new to Diaclone this will help me out! [/quote] Yes, this is good info for us. I'm finding Shaxper's predictions come true for my collecting too; because my small Diaclone collection has unexpectedly broadened my appreciation of diecasts and other robots. My wallet was 'supposed' to save for Diaclones...but the quicker fix is coming from newer toys (Micronauts, SOC, & TF's). (but Diaclone is still #1!!!) Ward

Fellas, any search tips for Diaclone on Yahoo Japan? I've tried everything I can think of, even went through all of the Takara listings...zip. The various key words: Diaclone, Inchman..etc. produce nothing. I'm trying this via Rinkya, should I try something else?
Thanks, Ward

Ed's link from that previous thread you gave me worked great Shaxper. It brought me into a solid group of Diaclone auctions. Now I just have to figure out how to get Rinkya involved, because the search doesn't come from them. Do the YahooJapan sellers have trouble with international shipping? Wouldn't they get more $$$ on eBay?

Just give rinka the item number and they should get it for you no problem. ;D

There's a complete 'Great Robot Base' on Yahoo Japan now...with four days left, its already at $118,000 Yen... = $1004.48 USD ..... before Rinkya fees. A Fortress X is climbing fast at $408 US which seems to be MIB (so I understand $500 would be normal for this.) I'll think of it as a test of my collecting interest; if I still have the Diaclone passion after a few years of saving up to swim out this deep. Luckily, I don't have that cash now, or I'd do something crazy. Ward

One thing I learned from surfing Yahoo Japan quite a bit is that there is no such thing as a rare Diaclone over there. If you're not sure about spending too much on a certain item, it'll come around again. I wanted to buy the first GRB, Skybase, and Big Powered I saw, but learned to restrain myself.

It was a shocker to use Ed's link to Yahoo Japan for the first time a couple of days ago, and immediately see original boxed Waruderos, DiaBattles, GRB, & Fortress X, among others I was floored, but now it makes sense with what you say; so I'll not worry about a second mortgage...yet Hey, with so much of that great original stuff over there, why don't we see more of these sales coming to eBay? Wouldn't they do better in our 'hungry' market? Ward

Well, by the same token, why aren't we going through our closets and selling vintage American clothing on Yahoo Japan? It's partially the language barrier, partially the inconveniece, and partially that folks just don't realize it.
