Thank you for sharing the information and pics. I would appreciate it if you could post some more pics of the outer boxes for both versions. Thanks.

The two versions that germie bought have very different box art. There would be no confusion between those two boxes if you saw them at a store or online.
If you want more info on the earlier real popy boxes that look like the KO box, to be able to identify the KO, you may want to check with germie on the KO box and also look at neuromancer's original posts in this thread as he had some links showing differences of the toys, not sure about the boxes.

Hi all, between the HK bootleg and actual for the flying box, has anyone compared the sole/ bottom of the feet? any difference there?

Sorry for my prolonged absence. Mr. Ginrai is correct on the boxes. But even if I had the 1979 original box you probably couldn't discern any difference from the photos. You have to see them in person and be somewhat familiar with offset printing process.
The KO box was scanned from the original and therefore everthing in it is rasterized, including all graphic elements which should be vector such as text and logos.
If you need an example grab a magazine and look at the text on the cover and notice how sharp it is. Then look inside for photos of products with printing on them (i.e. an ad with a can of soup, a picture of a poster ir magazine, etc.) and notice how the text is rendered in those pictures.
That's the difference in the boxes. But like I said you won't notice it until you're holding them in your hands.
As far as the feet, they're the same (including year) but the KO has better defined Japanese characters.
