Oh boy, this one's going to be good.
I have the original 1/24 Takara Red Shoulder Custom, if you need some measurements. It's the largest size of the vintage releases, about 6".

Thanks but no need since the whole model is done and is just being fitted with joints. I was gonna make this a 15 inch figure but since this was a complex figure I decided to go a bit smaller so if I make a mistake with some parts I can reprint it without wasting much filament. Afterwards I'm gonna make the other accessories and conversion parts to make pther variants of the scopedog.

Ok cool. I always liked the space pack attachment (don't know the real name) but it's the X shaped one with the little rockets/air boosters on the end to shuffle the mech around in zero gravity.

Yeah I remember that backpack and it looks really good. I'm gonna do the red shoulder upgrades and the other variants like the Brutish dog which I was already tinkering with but still haven't finished with the gatling arm.

I can send you up close pics of all the vintage red shoulder accessories and add-ons/missiles etc. if you want to see the design/details. I know you don't need the size.

I'm thinking if I should make the missile launcher able to shoot projectiles. Also I made mistake about the size, it's about 10 inches. My eyes were a bit sleepy when I measured the model and I read 9 something something as 8 something something lol. I'm starting to get hesitant on printing this at 15 inches as the current size looks just right and since I'm planning on other versions I'll need to be more filament. Looks like a microman Chirico would fit inside which means I don't have to make a small action figure.

Definitely loving what I see so far. I like how you've incorporated rivet details into your design, but I think it might be easier to print it flat, then glue rivets on; that might ease the sanding process. Just a thought. Btw, how are your thigh joints done? Are you using some kind of ball joint?

Btw, how are your thigh joints done? Are you using some kind of ball joint? I agree, I've been hesitant to put rivets since it might get removed while sanding and will make the sanding process a pain. The thigh joint is a ball joint that is tightened by a spring underneath. I kept it simple at the moment since I wanted to see if it would work as sometimes simple is best. It seems to be tight enough since the surface of the ball and housing is rough it would provide enough friction along with the spring pushing up.

Wow! That's a really, really neat piece of engineering you did for the thigh ball and knee ratchet. Nice!

Thanks, i tried my best to sinplify the design as any complex joints won't turn out durable when printed. I actually wanted to use the ball joint I made for my tetsujin but it just won't work properly with a smaller diameter. Right now I'm still working on the main body and I'll only print it when I am 100 percent sure that there are no more design flaws.

I must say, this is a very complex design. Are you an engineer? It looks very professional. Got one thigh printed and fitted to the lower part. The knee has a soft click which is preferable since a harder ratchet would wear out the gear.

I haven't seen your Tetsujin; do you have a link?
So much detail in this design, I'm loving your thread; can't wait to see more progress!

boricua Thanks, but I'm not an engineer. I'm actually a goldsmith, though my job experience does help me out in designing parts. It also helps that I love figures and I like to see how they are made and I learn by examining my figures and sometimes dismantling them. I'm self taught so there's still a lot for me to learn including new modelling programs that I'd like to try out. nick The thread is also here in this section of the forum but here's a pic. I'm happy with the joints on this figure as it's quite stable even for a big figure.

I printed the skirt armor but the connectors make it a bit stiff and I want it to swing more loosely. I'll probably change it as I'm not satisfied with how it turned out but the skirt does look good attached.

I can only see pics of your newer posts. Somehow, for your older posts, the pictures just doesn't display. Not sure if it's just on my comp. Very classic version of Tetsujin you did tho. Nice! And yes. those joints have to be strong to take THAT top bulk. The bottom torso of the Scopedog so far looks Gundam-esque; reminds me of RX-77 Guncanon. Fantastic speed and progress, I can't wait to see more! Just curious, what colour for Scopedog are you doing? And are you going for the shiny Gokin look or matt militarized?

I'll do the regular scope that will have upgrade parts for the red shoulder version. I decided on flat paint as I don't think shiny would be match a rugged mech. Also it is gundamesque since the designer of this mech is Kunio Okawara who also designed the original gundam.
