Ocular Max have had a very successful start to life as a Mastermind Creations sub-brand. The Masterpiece-style Perfection Series and the Remix line have been well received with figures PS-01 Sphinx and RMX-01 Jaguar taking plaudits for quality, design and aesthetics. While not everyone agrees with the apparent melding of cartoon, toy and Studio Ox vision that Ocular Max are going for, it’s fair to say they’re on a roll. The newest mould aimed at filling a (short-lived) Masterpiece gap is PS-03 Backdraft, based on the original heroic transforming fire truck. With competition already established in the form of MakeToys MTRM Hellfire, together with upcoming releases from TakaraTomy Transformers Masterpiece and KFC/XTB Dante, Backdraft’s got a lot of work to do in convincing people to go unofficial – specifically Ocular Max – with a confirmed official release on the horizon. Thanks for sharing Maz. Your article and photographs have pushed me over the fence that Backdradt will be my MP Inferno, and he won't just be a substitute until the TT version comes out.

Great article, mine is in transit. I'm hoping mine arrives with No issues.
I am still going to get Takara's Inferno. I like the Alt mode of Backdraft but there aspects of Takaras that I like as well.

I have been reading about issues and qc problems and it made me a bit apprehensive in purchasing him, however, compared to the alternatives, he is still the one that matches with most of my specifications for sculpt detail, size and alt mode form.

I'm getting a little uneasy myself with all the QC clucking going on on the TFW forums, but I also know that molehills quickly become mountains over there so I'm going to hold judgement until I"ve got this guy in my hands. As it is, he's already paid for at BBTS, just waiting on some other stuff to come in before I ship him.

-> Crotch piece QC is about few undred first pieces... Remplacement part should be scheduled to retailers  Feet are heavy so offer a great stability for posing but also can loose a bit hips joint, which can be tighten just by the magic of a screwdriver  Anyway, thanks for this article Maz... PS-05 GIRDER is on it's way, same with PS-08 KŌJIN & Nightbeam, and I am finishing PS-06 TERRAEGIS artworks for the packaging. (but who is PS-04 ?)  |
