Having this toy got me to watch the Dougram TV series. Only half way through so far, but not a bad show. A pretty serious look at oppressed minority and guerrilla warfare, with Dougram sort of like the Gundam of the show, being more advanced and one versus many in most of the fights. Worth a watch, but less gritty and mysterious than Votoms (all the Perfect Soldier stuff), even though it was created by more or less the same crew of artists. Youtube has the whole series subtitled, for those interested.

I think they are missing one episode on YouTube but that's where I watch it also.
It's a great show. It came before Votoms so it is kind of in between Gundam and Votoms as far as realism, leaning more towards Votoms.
Votoms is pretty much the real robot pinnacle as far as the shows are concerned. Part of it is because Votoms is basically about Chirico getting set up and a much grittier, violent war, compared to the uprising/rebellion/fight for independence and Deon Casshim's deception in Dougram.

Interstingly, I noticed that Full Metal Panic main protagonist Sousuke also go by Kashim when he was very young and fight guerilla war in desert. Wonder if that was an intended nod to Dougram's Crinn Cashim.
Also, fiddled with the figure a bit more last night and had Crinn's little figure peeked out of the head, made me realized the size of Dougram in real scale is rather small. Quite a bit smaller than a Gundam.

Not sure if the full metal panic thing was an homage to dougram or not.
I know you are right, but your comment made me want to see how much difference there actually is between them.
I will say in general that although the dougram is smaller than Gundam, it's still pretty big (and I got that feeling the first time I watched the show and played with an original takara 1/72 dougram - the scale was translated very well in my opinion).
I looked up some numbers quick online. The meters I list are accurate, I rounded up or down to the nearest number on the conversion to feet for ease of typing.
The RX-78-2 (original mobile suit Gundam) is 18.5m (almost 61 feet tall) where a dougram is 9.63m (almost 32 feet tall).
Dougram however is still really large - it towers over a scopedog. A Red Shoulder Custom is 4.210m or about 14 feet tall (a regular scopedog is actually shorter, at 3.894m or about 12 feet tall, I think because they are counting the extra height of the missile launcher on the Red Shoulder.)
Dougram is also taller than G1 Optimus Prime who is noted as 6m or about 19 feet tall in the original cartoon.
Remember that a 1-story of a building is generally about 3m or 10 feet tall. So dougram is at least the height of a 3 story building, which for a piloted ground mech, is really large.
It's still smaller than (but closer to) the battroid mode of a VF-1 Valkyrie which is 12.68m or about 42 feet. I actually thought valkyries were the same height as dougram, interesting that they are a little taller.

Cool post and numbers, Ginrai. I suppose I am very used to the super robot sizes, where 30-50m is the norm. Gundam was among the small crowd, while scopedogs are the 'tiny'. Guess Dougram is right in between those two. Remembering seeing the life size Gundam in person, yeah, half of that height is still pretty big. (Which makes Ideon, Daitarn, or Danguard Ace ridiculously huge if it was real....)
Also, I am quite surprised by the episode count of the TV show, with Gundam and Ideon real robot shows got shortened due to popularity/budget cut at the time, Dougram managed to outlast those for a whopping 75 episodes! Curious what changed in the anime climate back then, or if the toy sales of Dougram was such a success that drove the show to keep going. All I remember is my brother built a Dougram model kit, and I built a brown Blockhead (until now I know brown means enhanced, a few decades later), both of us not knowing much of the show back then, aside the mech looks pretty cool and was current in toy magazines.

One of the few modern toys I'd like to get! Good news that theyre going ahead with Soltic, and hopefully more. I was sad when the Takara DMZ Scopedog line fizzled out. Everyone wanted that to continue on to bigger mechs like the Dougram stuff.
I like how these guys get a couple vintage Takara toys out to compare with the new Dougram, but they shouldve had the 1/48 kit out too! Also: DO NOT take 11 minutes into a video to even open the stupid toy! Agh!

I think Takara's Dougram kits were the first robot kits to use polycaps in the joints. With the added poseability, clear canopies, the large detailed 1/48 scale pilot and crew sculpts, and the addition of kits for smaller vehicles, helicopters, and mech transports, the Dougram kits took things a few steps further than Gundam kits at the time. That was probably a pretty big deal, given the growing plamodel rage at the time.

Pros Its Dougram!! I dont know if its the price, but Dougram feels more premium then Defender Spartan. It has Smoother more complex joints....silky smooth. Sentinal has nothing on you now. Tons of complex compound joints. Joint engineering fans rejoice. Even the material feels more rich. And The contest Between my fingers and the Dougrams plastic squeezing, the plastic would win....my fingers will def break first. Cons No clickies...oh come on! More metal please! ....you gonna let SRC team win? No paint...oops his metal feet are painted. The Price....if it had bit more metal $150 shipped would be justified...at this price you can get the super premium DC GX-70. Yeah, yeah, its apples and orange, but COME ON NOW!
That's it for my sad review. I cant upload because Photobucket is being a portal to a phishingware. In short, IF you can pick him up at a decent price (around 80 to 90...goodluck), you wont regret it! You will LOVE it! At $150?!?...i have a bit of reservation recommending him. BUT, who knows, you might have to wait another DECADES before you get another premium Dougram
Bandai team HMR, please make Votoms' Scope Dogs!! If you can't get the license i dont know who can... And you know it WILL sell, as long as its not crazy $150 a piece!

Bandai team HMR, please make Votoms' Scope Dogs!! If you can't get the license i dont know who can... And you know it WILL sell, as long as its not crazy $150 a piece! Hi-metals of Votoms stuff would be great; maybe at about 1/24th scale? Or maybe even a bit smaller at 1/32nd? But damn, there's so much I'd rather see them do before votoms. The market hasn't been hurting for Scopedogs in recent years. But there's still plenty of stuff from Macross and Dougram and Xabungle that has never had a modern toy, let alone one as kickass as the HMR line has been so far. And I know it will never happen, but dammit, I'd love to see Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross get Hi-metals; HMR's would be so perfect for those designs.

Sadly the Roundfacer looks to be an Exclusive so the price is already insane. They've also showed off a companion Xabungle mech thats coming. "Timp's Government Type"? I have no idea what that is as I have not seen Xabungle. It certainly looks distinct. That type of roundish 80's mecha that we don't see a lot of.

I don't even mind too much the rest of the Dougram line being web exclusive, if that is what it takes for it to continue. Really want a brown Blockhead, aside Dougram and Soltic. And of course, the more they make the merrier. Modern mechs are cool, but they lack the funky charm some of these old classics bring.

Hehe, I guess they want to keep their vintage stuff sealed Which is what I should have done with mine, that Takara Dual Model 1:72 Dougram was a pain to detach the armor parts. I remember some of the parts getting stress marks when I tried to pull them off. Plus the fact that it's blister packed, really not collector friendly. Still have buyer's remorse for getting it instead of a MISB vintage Shockwave back in the day
