As the Grim Reaper descends ever swifter… happy birthday to me! Luckily Mrs. Hypnotator always stockpiles a couple of parcels to cheer me up when it comes around. The SOC I ordered from that ol’ fraudster terng3110 never turned up, needless to say, so I had to content myself with the Magneforce figures, and I am content; they are great little figures, well up to the standard of Microforce stuff so far and in some ways better.
L – R Achilles, Theseus and Icurus (sic)
They are magnetised in the torso and pelvis, and hence come apart, at the shoulders and hips and twice at the waist, releasing a ball bearing. I’m surprised these figures don’t have “Titan” anywhere in the name. The clip-on armour is very much like Beta Midget, Takara counter-ripping ideas off Bandai who ripped the whole Midget thing off Microman in the first place. It tends to fall off too easily in some places, and the opaque armour on all but two figures doesn’t impress me. Metis’ armour looks like moulded custard.
L – R Metis (?), Atlas and Phobos
What you can’t see in my photos is that the heads all work like Cyborg 99’s and Atomic Man’s; when lit from behind/above, they light up and can signal on and off. They have a nice combination of chromed and transparent bits, are beautifully articulated like all Microforce, are nice and heavy because of the ball bearings and magnets, and infuriatingly fiddly especially if you put the armour on. Their feet have magnets, like the 1990s New Microman, rather than holes, and the stands have a metal sheet underneath instead of pegs, so they magnetise to it in any foot position.
They also magnetise to the drain covers in Hypnotator’s beautiful garden. And it was another gorgeous day here, by the way, at least this morning.
But the best thing about them is… you can interchange them into conjoined mutants!
Thank you, Tripitaka Toys! Thank you, Mrs. Hypnotator!
