Is it just me, or is this reissue a fair bit more than the original release? I was fine paying a bit more for Dairugger, but if it’s going to be a price increase across the board...
its the same trick over and over my friend
repaint some parts, add a tiny extra part, and increase the price about an extra %20
if you dont have the original get this one its a really cool figure
I don’t know nothing about this robot but I have one in preorder wit a dealer I know. Seems to be a cool figure and why not? This will be the first mecha I will own and not know anything about him.... I just think it’s cool because of the lion on his chest
i have the original when they released it way back and i STILL dont know any thing about the robot
the figure is awesome one of the best Bandai combiners, i recommend you get it bro
about the robot, you are looking at what was suppose to be Voltron but thanks to a mistake we got the Voltron we know and love
Daltanius is one of Tadao Nagahama collection (the robot romance trilogy) that include Combattler V, Voltes V, Daimos and finally Daltanius

Yeah, if i didnt buy the "original" re- release, id buy this in a second. A good solid combiner. Highly recommended.
But yes, Bandai is super lazy when it comes to "R" Its just like their Tamashii Quality nonsense.

But yes, Bandai is super lazy when it comes to "R" Its just like their Tamashii Quality nonsense. Normally, I'd agree with you. But this time, I think the changes are pretty significant (new lion head and chromed thighs, which I think will really pop in person). I had both the ST and DX Popy versions of Daltanious as a kid, so I was actually a bit disappointed by the first SOC release as it didn't evoke the nostalgia I had for the old toy. It's why I never picked up GX-59. The R version is an instant buy for me. And the fact that Bandai's providing both the anime and toy lion heads with this release is a really nice move.

I agree with you there.
Bandai DID add a head AND gave us chrome limbs. Hope they did atleast one internal improvement too..
Please report in if you find any other improvement on this release.

im sorry but i think you have a very low standers
they just painted the lion limbs, add an extra head and call it a day
thats not significant in my book by any means, the GX-59 needed better things to be done, like the ankle joints there is a huge gap between the foot and leg giving the figure a hovering look which is not cool
significant change will be something like the GX31V 40th anniversary, they did exactly what needed to be done, fixed and improved the joints

I bought the regular GX-59 for my brother years ago, but had no interest myself. I didn't think it was worth the money, but the GX-59R changes are "significant" enough to get me to buy this Daltanious. If you hate that Bandai's doing this and the changes don't mean anything to you, that's cool. To me, it's not really a competition about standards. It's about getting whatever you like. And complaining about Bandai providing only a new head and a different paint job? Try telling Macross collectors that.

Pulling nostalgic heart strings can go a long way. May not be significant in terms of new material, but weights a lot more on the meaning behind it. I can see the appeal in the GX-59R, as a homage of the toy I held and borrowed from my childhood classmate few decades ago (God knows how much snacks I had to trade to just borrow it for a day of playtime). Though the original release is enough for me.

Bandai R version are not meant to have many changes. They are just releasing old figures with some extras. I'm ok with it, I had the opportunity to get some releases I missed at retail price. If you expect significant changes in engineering than you should wait for a new release of the character (for example grendizer GX04 and GX76). I think it's a great release, in another personal context I would have probably gone for it.

"R" can mean many things and Bandai made sure it left it vague...
Yes Bandai "should" have "R"e-engineer the unsightly ankles IF Bandai had real love (?) for its fan and its product. This was a perfect opportunity fix "bugs." Alas, Bandai loves and respect money more ....its real.
"Having said ALL that," i still got to give props and thanks to Bandai for actally re-re-releasing this piece for those bros who missed it for one reason or another...

GX-59 is a great piece indeed. The ankle didn't bother me, and all I remember is the good solid feel and straight forward combination of the thing. Everything works very well. It is one of the more memorable SOCs in the past few years for me, and one of SOC's top combiner. If I didn't have the original, the GX-59R would be a no-brainer, as the Godaikin homage works for me as well, but not enough for me to double dip.

you got me wrong my friend its not a competition or anything
what im saying is, for me they didn't do huge changes that will make people double dip, while they could at least try to update some joints here and there

actually you can compare the early GX01 and the GX02 both R version from these releases got huge changes, Great Mazinger become even bigger than the regular release
but now they are been cheap and lazy, repaints extra accessories (some cases replace old accessories with new ones) and thats it

i agree with you
R could means Renewal, Recolor
but sadly after the huge flop of the GX40R i wash my hands from the R in any release
they should at least update the joints or come with new gimmicks for the figure, since they were limited by the technology at the time of the release, now they have absolutely no excuse
if King Arts a company with limited recourse and limited budget can do a Spazer better than the big boys , then clearly the big boys dont care any more or they think we will buy anything under their brand
im loyal to the product not the brand

Lion head sculpt seems different (look at the eyes). It's hard to tell if anything else was changed without the paint and those pictures.

the vintage one and the regular GX59 one
after seeing both together side by side im glad i have the regular one because for me its the best looking

I also like the original better and glad to have it. But got to give Bandai props on the nostagic memory lane this whole release gives you. That box art, that lion, the gold chrome, so much like the vintage (but prettier)....man, that box.

The retro packaging theme seems to be the pattern for the upcoming DX/SOC releases.
