10 months is quite a ways off to predict how the market will change. DX SOC Voltes has been selling out in pre-orders, even more than its predecessors. I'm guessing people are more accepting of the higher price tags now. But even if you were to carry it back by hand, I think it will be too large a box to handle anyway if travelling by plane. You may have to check it in and pay extra luggage or overweight fee, and risk it getting manhandled by airport baggage handlers. As for Daltanious reissue, most SOC reissues tend to linger a bit, like God Sigma and GodMars. But the redeco of Daltanious has made it more popular and I think it sold fairly well in Japan. In fact, the Japan PO price for GX-59R is currently higher than the standard US price. If it's only these 2 items, I would just preorder to save the hassle. Personally, for my trips to Japan I tend to hunt for rarer items that are hard to find in the US (like Macross and older gokins). I'm not gonna waste luggage space and deal with the hassle of lugging it from continent to continent, just to save a few dollars on each one. Save that valuable space for something that would be harder to find outside Japan. To give you a sense of the DX SOC box-

That's for one unit?

Yup, 1 unit. Written one the shipping box. However, DX Voltes's box will be thinner, since the change the box design. But the issue remains the same, it is still gonna be very big and possibly not fit in your luggage. And that is just 1 item.

Buy the toy. Flatten and fold the boxes/packaging. Pack both in suitcase?

Buy the toy. Flatten and fold the boxes/packaging. Pack both in suitcase? I'd do that for some Gundam kits. I personally don't want to risk messing up my DX SOC box by folding it or flattening it. Those baggage handlers are pretty rough.

If you can manage it, bring a good carry-on bag you can use to pack your items on the flight back. If you get really desperate, it might be possible to pack up a box and ship it back to your home via the Japan Post. But agree that the DX is too large and will be its own challenge - ordering and shipping probably the least hassle. It’s also good to plan in advance (if you can) what you might be looking for. You’ll probably be overwhelmed by all the stuff - which is great fun - but good to have a few general objectives. Mandarake has a few bajillion toys to choose from.

The DX's can be hard to predict. Just from looking at them so far my impression is you can typically find them for a handful of weeks after release at MSRP. But after that they skyrocket in aftermarket price.

But after that they skyrocket in aftermarket price. Reality is it depend greatly in the robot ... Mazinger z is a sure sweet seller and it took a while at first to be sold out but the secondary prices are just crazy now.... same with great Mazinger easy to get at first not it’s not too easy. We will see how daiku maryu Dx will do & Combatller falls in this predicament ...it’s still available to get but people like me and others I am sure don’t have an attachment to it .... Others Do. I do love Mazinger I own 2 Dx and 1 great DX ... Also I don’t know nothing about voltes but I do like the design and I have one in preorder and what do you know it’s sold out everywhere pretty much .... So I will say preorder. If you don’t like it you can always sell it later down the Road... so.... I believe and see it depends BIG TIME in the robot we are looking at ... I am sure when grendizer hits the market it will be a crazy to get him ...
