Nearly 4 pounds? That’s INSANE!!
DLX Hulk Buster is close to 5 pounds too (tho he has ALL his metal INSIDE) Proportion on Daikengo looks fantastic!

This is looking better and better to me. Maybe I should pull the trigger now since it looks like stock is drying up.

It’s a really fun piece. Really fun. Evolution Toys has been a little hit or miss for me in the past but this Daikengo has something that I haven’t experienced in a modern Gokin toy. The whole thing feels really retro. The materials and styling are an amazing homage to the toys of the late 70’s early 80’s - from the packaging to the metal, magnet and friction connections. Playing with this guy is really evocative of playing with Bullmark’s DX Daibaron, if you’re familiar with that classic. It’s clunky in the best way. Not nearly as polished as Bandai or Pose+ but I get the feeling it was done this way intentionally.

My Daikengo arrived this afternoon from HLJ, and here are my impressions. Pros:
- Beautiful eye appeal! This is a very faithful representation of Daikengo for any gokin collector.
- This figure is very solid. At nearly 4 pounds, the diecast metal content is no joke. Make no mistake this figure is heavy. Build quality is very good. This is not the cheap quality as the Evolution Toys Future Quest Albegas.
- Paint apps were also very good. Not as crisp as Bandai, Action Toys or Pose+, but I was very happy with the paint. Overall Evolution Toys did a good job with the paint apps.
- This figure has really good shelf presence. Daikengo will definitely look great displayed next to other gokins.
- Comes with a good variety of different hand poses attachments. The hands go on very easy when attaching to the ball joint at the wrists. The rubber quality of the hands are of good firmness, yet still soft.
- This figure looks good in photos, but looks even better in hand.
- Transformation is very intuitive. If you have experience with SOC Combattler or Voltes V toys, this will be very easy for you to transform, possibly without utilizing any instructions.
- Very strong ratcheting joints in the legs and upper arms.
- All parts that affix to ball joints are easy to remove. (Head and hands.)
- Great unboxing experience captures the magic of vintage gokins. (Classic styrofoam tray.) Box design/layout looks great, front and back.
- Figure is stable and is not wobbly due to the legs having significant weight.
- Daiken base (mothership) mode is HUGE!
- The back of the figure looks great. Does not have unnecessary unslightly kibble.
- Great toy representations of all of Daikengo's weaponry straight from the anime.
- Sliding face shield gimmick works better than I had originally thought. It's really cool that Evolution Toys chose to engineer this feature. I am glad they did not take the easy way out by being lazy and just using full swap out faces with the face shield molded on or off.
Cons:- The interchangeable face plate paint apps could have been better. They are not as crisp. But at least when the face shield is closed and covering the mouth, you don't notice it as much.
- Swivel joints above the elbows can be a bit loose. It occurred on one of my arms, but maybe this is only my copy. I was tempted to try to tighten the screw, but did not do so for fear of stripping the connection.
- There was minor paint rubbing when I removed one of the rocket nozzles from the small "stick" attachment at the back of the Diaken Buggy. (The good thing is that the paint rub is not visible in any of the modes, and is only visible during transformation when you have to remove the nozzle. The other stick attachment for the other nozzle to slot through did not have any paint rubbing.)
- Legs have limited range of motion.
- Arrow Fencer swords can be potentially fragile especially at the thinnest sharpest point. Be very careful not to accidentally snap these.
- Missed opportunity to have actual landing gear for the Combat Ship. There are simple landing strut/wheels that can be plugged in, but they are very thin and can potentially be fragile. I did not try to slot mine all the way into the Combat Ship.
- Some of the circular screw cover cap areas are sloppy, especially behind the shoulder.
- Can be a little scary to pick up the figure by the chest or waist. A small piece of paperwork (as gunvalion shows above) warns to carry the figure below the waist and support the figure by hold under the feet, as this will not risk the body separating from the torso and dropping your toy.
Overall:
This figure is well worth picking up. Yes, it is expensive, but I am glad I took a last minute chance on it and I am very happy with the end result. It does not feel cheap and fragile like the Evolution Toys' Super Metal Action Tetsujin 28-Go or their Future Quest Albegas. You get a figure with fantastic eye appeal, generous diecast metal, and sturdy build quality. This gives me more confidence with future Evolution Toys releases. Now I might be interested in their Daidenjin!

mrclean08 Nice review you saved me typing out. I just put my Set together too! I noticed There’s no instruction manual with this set right? Be nice to have instructions for reference besides looking at back of box. I feel like I’m going to break something if force it too much like hip joint was stiff. The elbow extension was kind of weird to get it to work too.
I wish this set had some articulated fingers. There’s redundant open hands and pair of closed fist that I’ll never use.
Definitely a homage to the original. Don’t expect dynamic posing with this one or high kick. 😂This piece is extremely bottom heavy.

It did come with a bagged instruction manual insert actually. I can take a picture of it if you would like.

Thanks for the review mrclean! I received and unboxed mine today, and my impressions are similar. I am disappointed with the paint, because there are a couple of spots on the chest that are uneven and even a small paint gap. Elsewhere, one line that is not sharply painted. Finally, one of the wheel “hubcaps” on a tread keeps popping out - seems I may need to glue it in place. These defects are a little annoying, but I am happy with the purchase because it has epic things going for it. It weighs a ton (refreshing after the recent Bandai GX-95/Gordian), has a strong shelf presence, and feels durable.

Thank you for the kind words S_Gokin !! Much appreciated! I recently started watching the vintage Daikengo anime thanks to Coletron and it's pretty cool so far. I've always been waiting for Bandai to produce a SOC Daikengo and totally thought it was going to be coming during the era of when we got Zambot 3, Daitarn 3 but it never did arrive. My initial impressions of Evolution Toy were very poor because I experienced several bad QC issues with my first few figures with them. But I am quite proud to say that their last couple offerings I have bought from them have actually been good. So maybe ET management has totally stepped up their game in the last couple of years and focused on improved QC. I'm interested in their upcoming Daidenjin a little bit, because I try to collect all the original 1980's Godaikin releases in SOC form. But there is something about the blue paint that is unflattering and doesn't impress me. I would have liked a more glossy blue or metallic look, but we'll see.

most welcome bro
i remember way back i was talking to a friend about ET i told him their main strong point is the choice of the rare characters but the quality is not that good, now after i read your review i understand that they improved their products and they are now to be considered as a decent company (at least for me)
our friends at gokin.it did a decent review with them

Vintage Version coming LIMITED TO 150 units worldwide
I do like the stickers look but hoping these are tampo printed and NOT actually stickers. Either way got too many POs already for 2023, going to have to skip.

Darn! I missed seeing this vintage PO! I hope I can get one on the secondary market for a good price. I hate to see how much it will go for on the secondary market, and I'm willing to bet that a vast majority of the 150 preordered are going to collectors from Italy. They did a good job in the recoloring for the homage to the vintage Takatoku Buildplan Daikengo.
