Very fun read. Thank you Gold! (I wonder how Bandai will handle SOC Shin Getter now, at how much.) Thanks GGG. Very fun read. Thank you Gold! (I wonder how Bandai will handle SOC Shin Getter now, at how much.) With what is being shown, I am not in for any nice surprise. Very likely just another run-of-the-mill standard SOC with a good sculpt that lacks small details. but in this case looks without soul. this may be my first souless chogokin I so agree, ever since Bandai dropped the official images for Shin Getter, it actually gave me the opposite effect and lost interest for the figure due to the lacking details. Feels like a wasted opportunity, after waiting so long to get an official Shin Getter in the SOC line. Gold

The only exception would be, if Shin Getter 2 & 3 is announced afterwards so it can be a full set. THEN, Bandai will get my money. Otherwise I don't have much incentive or need to get the Shin. At least Arc is a new character I don't already have a gokin of.

Would Half Eye Studio count as well Since they made a Shin Getter 1 & 2 Manga style ?

Ok. Finally opened Getter Arc. Initial impression, its not as bad as I thought, especially after seeing a bunch of lukewarm reviews on this guy. It has a nice semi-matte finish for the most part, with some metallic burgundy red that breaks that on the shoulders and knees. The paint feels quite nice, more refined than their promo prototype. Still think its missed opportunity on the green clear parts, as the plain look barely made any difference from just painted solid plastic. I still have issues with the face sculpt, but it looks less bad in person with it being smaller in person than the close-ups in photo. Figure has heft, with diecast I can feel on the upper chest, lower legs and feet. Asides the head sculpt, I find Bandai did a very good job on the body sculpt and proportion. Arc is not even close to one of my favorite Getter design, but the proportion actually made it look heroic just standing there. Articulations seem decent enough, with some spring loaded thigh panels and back knees. It also stands surprisingly tall as a standard figure, standing about the same height as SOC Getter Emperor.
But one thing I hate about modern gokin is that they always hide all the screws, but without quality checking the joint tightness before they seal up everything. One of my hip is loose, and the screw cover is right there, yet I can't access it without damaging the finish. Waist joint is also on the looser side. But the rest are fine. The box is the thick card stock that I like, but the instruction paper (not even a booklet) is one of the worst in SOCs. Felt like I bought a Robot Damashii flipping through that sheeeeet.
Overall, I find myself quite like this, even surprising myself. I couldn't bring myself to finish the anime (I do own the manga), and not feeling much love for this design. But the GX-99 feels decent enough that I am glad I bought it afterall, loose joints and all.

Just tried Wotafa's "Japanese Liquitex Permanent Matte Varnish" trick on the loose hip joint, and it worked! Got a bottle from ebay months ago, finally get to try it on Arc and works quite well. Put a couple drops of it into the hip joint and let the varnish seeps in and dry, while moving the joint a few times here and there to let the varnish distribute evenly inside. It dries into a gooie film that adds friction to the joint, but not as destructive as super glue that it allows clean up if you dripped it in the wrong place. Good for hinge joints you can't quite access or can't use the super glue trick, as the gooie film will get trapped in the hinge gaps (like a lot of metal hinge joints in Metal Build). But not so good for ball & socket joints as it can get rubbed off more easily (for those use super glue instead). Can be rubbed off with your finger with a tiny bit of water even if it dried. Just don't make the same mistake I did by putting too much and run down to the thigh and knee LOL. Took more time to clean up my mess than actually fixing the joint. A couple drop is all it needs. As wacky as SOC Arc looks, I find it blends in with the rest of my Getter team rather well, to my surprise. Attachments:

Very cool!
Yeah, I’m having a loose joint issue on my Tech-On Iron Man too. And One of the hip and ankle joint was SUPER TIGHT!!! I’m telling you…It’s that Tamashii Quality!! (S/)

(S/) Give this a try if you have access to one. Wotafa approved! The 120 is just the bottle size, in which case is enough to last you years, as long as it doesn't dry up. Local art & craft stores has Liquitex matte varnish (and way cheaper), but don't know if it works as well as the Japanese Permanent Matte Varnish. And don't dare to test it on $100+ figures in case they are different...

Yeah, I might have gotten one if Bandai did the face MORE source accurate.

Yeah, I might have gotten one if Bandai did the face MORE source accurate. Yeah. With it in hand, the head is actually quite nice too. If you cover up its nose & jaw, the rest of the head sculpt is quite cool and heroic, having all the Arc features in the right place without look weird or off (and improved upon the manga and anime to an extend). But once you include that slim pointy jaw, and the half opened mouth showing the teeth, its totally its own SOC design not following the manga or the anime, and loses the signature bulging underbite. The fully open-mouth sculpt on the SOC is even more weird, looks more like a William Dafoe crazy face than a Getter Arc. It really needs that bulging underbite jaw back...

Just got mine last night from a buddy visiting from Japan. Really excited to crack it open and put on display. It looks fantastic to me but I don't have any bias to it outside of a Revoltech I owned and loved the design.

Don't buy GX-99. I didn't know there was a widespread issue of broken wrist joints out of the box! My copy did not have broken joints (got it Nov 2021), had it on display for 2 years with the axes in hand crossed-X and resting on the shelf front of his feet. Picked it up recently to check out the figure again and the hands just fell off. There was a small part inside the forearms rattling around. What a poorly designed joint. They could've just used a thick ABS peg that frictioned into the forearm but instead they designed a small mushroom peg. The wrists weren't even holding the weight of the axes, I displayed it that way on purpose. Googling info about it, I found out a lot of GX-99 arrived with broken wrist joint. Ugh. No wonder it went on clearance. I plan to just glue the joint back, it will still have rotation due to the ball joint where the hands plug in, but the axis of the wrist joint will become fixed.

Thank you for the heads up Getterboi.
Sigh...I'm not even going to go there with Bandai SOC team. (Specifically, the head of that department.)
There's absolutely no excuse for this mess. It certainly isn't a budget issue.

SOC used to be a consistent line, each realease used to guarantee quality, but now it became a rather hit or miss thing. its not nice seeing one of the greatest, oldest and almost legendary lines going that way... By the way mine was ok luckily, yet Im not very fond of this guy (and I payed full price for it...)
