Took a few quick pics comparing the Black Shin with my favorite sculpt Riobot Shin 1. Not the best photos to begin with, nor showing their best poses or angles. Just a straight comparison on the proportion and general sculpt. It is very nice to see that Riobot still aged pretty well, with a much more balanced sculpt overall, excellent head sculpt (still think its the best head out of all Getter gokins out there), and excellent arm proportions and really good looking upper half. No giant exposed joints either, generally very well concealed, or blend in nicely with the sculpt. Legs though are a bit too straight without a lot of definitions, and the wings design is pretty weak (too short, too flat, and sculpted details in the clear parts is barely visible, not to mention the joints aren't that strong to hold them up either). The polished red plastic without paint really didn't help either. Joints not as sturdy as some of the more modern releases with very tight joints, even though mine still holds well due to not posing it too often. Awesome looking figure and articulation, but not the sturdiest to handle. CCSToys' Black Shin on the other hand excels in detail (since the black hides a lot of the cracked eggshell effect), awesome paint treatment, and the clear green parts, translucent scarf and those huge organic wings really gave it a lot of character. But when it comes to proportion, some parts are a bit off. Waist is way too narrow, making the hips got that 'diaper' look. Elbow joints are too thin on the elbows, and gave Shin a bit of gorilla arms. Even more disproportionate if I put on the very fun oversized gauntlets. Personally, I am less fond of the chest design, but it was nicely covered by the scarf. Head is a bit on the bigger side, but this particular sculpt is good. All in all, a lot of cool factors on this figure, to compensate some of the imbalanced proportions. I do like the legs shape a bit more over Riobot's, have a rounder shape and a bit more definition. Though Riobot's feet size and shape fit its legs nicely, while Black Shin's feet look a tad too small in comparison. And being a better built figure with more diecast and very nice LED gimmick, as well as creative weapon accessories really help to sell this release. I am glad I have both, and they both bring different cool things to the table. With Metal Build Shin 1 being the new hotness, but not quite to my liking in some aspects (I have talked enough about that in the MB thread), it is most likely a pass for me, unless I found it on big discount sometime down the road. Though part of me is very curious how it stacks up to this two with it in hand. Guess we'll see about that.

mpchi the Black version actually looks very nice & complements the Riobot Shin Getter is a nice way also it's probably the camera but it looks Gunmetal more than Silver (Still looks good) Guess I was right to get the Black version lol

While my photos are crappy due to indoor night lighting with my cellphone, I did tune them in photoshop to make the colors look fairly accurate. The silver on Black Shin is quite dark, and closer to gunmetal than silver indeed. The clear green parts also looks exceptional, compare to the CCSToys red Shin, which was just painted metallic blue teal. Clear green plastic adds more depth on the details inside, on par with Riobot's, if not a bit better. Black Shin does look awesome.

thank you for the comparison
i think the CCS is ready for war, while the Riobot is ready for comic con lol
joking aside, for me i think both CCS versions are really good, for the red version its the 2nd after the EX Gokin, and for the black Getter i think its the best version of the robot ever made
the Riobot is in the 3rd place in both color

Did you pay for the extra US$8 for Express Shipping? Mine took roughly about 2 weeks with Express. Zero took me 2 months without... It does tend to get stuck a few days here and there periodically on my Black Shin as well. Guess that is how it is (as well as how rough the packaged got handled LOL...those broken corner protectors on mine). Looking closely today during the day, I noticed mine got some paint flaws on both thigh removable covers. Nothing major, but some scratched paint on both. Both front toes are very loose as well, but not the mid joint or ankle. Got to praise CCSToys on the toe design though, while the front toe joint is loose, it is locked as long as the figure is standing on its feet flat on the ground. Unlike other figures, when the toe joint is weak/loose, it tends to lose balance and fall forward easier. The way CCSToys cut the toe joint, it can't be bent unless the feet is lifted up from the ground. Very smart!

Some idiots will criticize a figure's design without even knowing what the design is based on. I wish I can reach through the interwebs and slap this guy thru his phone.

I am sooo confused why someone would buy a $300 figure from a series they have never seen. I understand buying a Marvel Legend or Robot Spirit that looks cool but don't know the source material. Those are only $20 to $50 depending. But $300 or more? And you didn't do any research on reviews or other releases of the company? Personally I do the research to make sure I am going to like and keep a figure if I spend any money. Also the scarf was pictured very promptly, did he just not look at those pictures? Scarfs are very under used in mecha shows and definitely add cool points to the design. The repair version of Exia with the cloak from Gundam 00 season 2 was an awesome design. But I loved "You might as well ask why Voltron doesn't have actual hands." That made my day.

Ok. so I finally got my black getter last week. While the figure is impressive, yet again I'm iffy on the quality. The last regular getter was missing a metal filler piece on the wing joint. This time, when I lifted the figure out, two small screws fell out and I still haven't found where it came from.... Also the screw securing the crotch and the leg on the figure's butt was loose and I had to tighten the screw up. Maybe they are just selling so many small things like this are falling through the cracks at the production line.... Also, after playing with the figure again my input would be that some of the light up features should be better accessible through buttons that are not covered which require you to remove the armor in order to light up.

How do you access the screw? Thought they were all sealed up. I wish I can access the hip joint screw, so I can fix the slight wobble on one leg. And sorry to hear any QC issues. I am all too familiar with that, basically on any purchases, not just CCSToys. I am a magnet for lemons, sadly.

I was not referring to the leg itself. But, bothers me why two screws would fall out of the figure for no reason.

WARNING!! Casualty report! Guys, make sure you don't have your Black Shin Getter sculpted hands (all the non-poseable finger hands) on display for too long. Apparantly, the clear green plastic in the hand/wrist are as weak as the Zero clear yellow plastic neck joint (broken twice, even on a replacement head), and easily cracked on its own just due to pressure. One of mine just cracked after displayed holding the chain axe for a couple weeks, saw the axe got droopy, and realized the hand is very loose. You can see the green clear plastic at the connection is all fractured. And I did notice all the sculpted hands do fit tighter on the wrist peg than the articulated finger hands. Now I am even more worried on the clear green wrist peg on the arm... at least I got extra hands, but not those wrist pegs. *Update* Both hands are cracked, not just one....

thank you for sharing this
i mentioned this issue on the my review for the red one, the wrist is clear plastic for the LED to shine through its cool yes but not practical
for me i leave my figures in the stand pose no weapons or anything attached to them (unless its a very rare case) so this wont happen
