My only nomination is the Blitzway 5pro Studio Carbotix Voltron.
This was a year of few releases; but despite its flaws, the Blitzway Voltron is one of the most incredible contemporary figures I own - matched only by last year's winner... the GX-100.
There is no other choice for 2022 "Toy of the Year"!

Metal Structure Sazabi? I don't own one though . Honestly, I can't think of one candidate this year that really stands out. Or they are good release but less significant or not even robot related to compete for TOTY. May have to think of this some more for my nominations...

wow the 2022 TOTY is going to revealed in 2023 lol typical greengetterguy
joking aside here is my nominations, even tho this year wasnt fully packed and it was mostly backtracking for me
1. Moshow Progenitor Effect MCT-J03 Date Masamune
a VERY high end VERY high quality figure in every single criteria size, articulation, crazy good joints, paint is better than some cars paints, and very decent heft in the hand
2.CCS Shin Getter 1
one of the great releases this year it was a hair away from taken the crown from the EX Gokin
3.Pose + Baxingar and Baxinbird
not sure if i include this since it was an old release but for me this was an introduction to how good Pose + are in doing combiners
4.Action Toys Mini Gokin Tetsujin 28
yes i included this because its very fun to play with and it fit perfectly with the SRC's it made me realized how much i missed the SRC line
must to mention
Metal Structure Sazabi
i dont think i will buy one but its one of those figures that cause jaws to drop so low

I thought the Metal Builds were pretty good -- but, I'm partial to that line. Aside from that, an unofficial shoutout to FansToys' 2 releases that I thought were stellar: their renditions of Hoist and Mirage. Really well-done.
I don't quite agree with the Blitzway Golion because of the issues -- that by default should make it a non-ToTY, IMO. I get it that he's a Voltron but a character should not define how great a toy is if it's got warts. <shrugs>

And yeah, the Metal Structure Wasabi is amazing...but, it's borderline giant statue...but, that should not take away the sheer awe and audacity of the figure. I would love one but just again, can't justify the price -- had a couple shots at it but yikes, the price.

I thought the Metal Builds were pretty good -- but, I'm partial to that line... Metal Build Hi-Nu is very good, and I am very happy with mine (QC and all). But I don't know if it is TOTY material. One of those "I can put it on the list", but ends up getting just a couple votes. Riobot Raideen is kind of on the same boat. I love the design, and the toy executed very well. Heck! I even got it cheap when the Yen exchange rate at its lowest (best buy of the year). But will it get a lot of votes for TOTY? Haha, probably not. SHF Kamen Rider Old No.1 (from the Tamashii 2022 Event) is probably the best classic Rider SHF ever made (looks like a real Rider just got shrunk down and put in a box, when I open it and saw it in person for the first time). Winner of TOTY? Also no. Notable mention, King Arts Danguard Ace might be a solid candidate. I was initially put off by its similarities of the SOC sculpt (obvious copy on a lot of areas). But I do have to give them credits on things they improved upon. Watching ToysTV's review as I am typing this, it turns out to be very good, very solid, also big and heavy. Even the ToysTV folks were surprised at the improvements on fit & finish, as well as joint sturdiness from previous King Arts they handled/reviewed. And yeah, the Metal Structure Wasabi is amazing...but, it's borderline giant statue...but, that should not take away the sheer awe and audacity of the figure. I would love one but just again, can't justify the price -- had a couple shots at it but yikes, the price. That's the thing about this one. Most that may vote for it, most likely have never handled one themselves. Understandably so not just because of the price, but the chance one can actually buy one (we both tried).

I don't quite agree with the Blitzway Golion because of the issues -- that by default should make it a non-ToTY, IMO. I get it that he's a Voltron but a character should not define how great a toy is if it's got warts. <shrugs> I'm not nominating the Blitzway because it's a Voltron. I'm nominating it because when I shot my review, I thoroughly compared it to both BANDAI DX Combiners - and it's absolutely superior. DX Voltes and Combattler are wobbly and top heavy by comparison; they feel rickety. If you watch the demonstration in my video, I hold the Blitzway parallel to the floor and shake it - the metal structure is COMPLETELY stiff... the legs hold absolutely straight. Nothing budges. I've NEVER seen a 15" combiner do this! Also I've never seen a DX sized combiner hit an Iron Man pose or hold a high-kick. It has articulation as good as my best Sentinel figure. The plastic is more vibrant than that of DX Voltes and Combattler. The 5.1lb 5Pro is MUCH heavier too. The only issue I experienced was the handle breaking on my Blazing Sword. Aside from that, the figure is beyond spectacular. The quality is honestly superior to what I've experienced with most BANDAI releases - including GX-71. That's why I'm nominating it for TOTY; not because it's a big Voltron.

Riobot SRX
GX-101 Daitetsujin 17
Both I have, but haven't open mine, though reviews were good.

I second the blitzway voltron. Considering the issues the earlier versions had and the fact that there was a voltron to top the soc(it depends on the buyers preference even though me personally the soc is my favorite figure of all time), Blitzway did a very great job with it.

It's unfortunate how retailers decided to do the scalping themselves, especially since the figure barely came out. Already asking for 50% over retail, on a figure that costs $1,500.00. Even at that price I was very hesitant about buying, but now I fully wrote it off.

happy 2023, everyone! The only new stuff I got in '22 was 40th anniversary HMR Xabungle and SHFSS V3. Both are great, but neither is really TOTY material. No nominations from me. SHF Kamen Rider Old No.1 (from the Tamashii 2022 Event) is probably the best classic Rider SHF ever made (looks like a real Rider just got shrunk down and put in a box, when I open it and saw it in person for the first time). Sounds great. If Luna Park comes through, I should get one when the second run is released in late May, but I'm not about to hold my breath. (I jumped on their first pre-sale, but I didn't use their premium site, and after the event they raised the price, so I got moved to the back of the line . . . ) If you watch the demonstration in my video, I hold the Blitzway parallel to the floor and shake it - the metal structure is COMPLETELY stiff... the legs hold absolutely straight. Nothing budges. I've NEVER seen a 15" combiner do this! Impressive!

Funny thing is, in Hong Kong, because of the situation you just described, certain distributors were manipulating the stock amount causing all the markups. But the actual available stock is more than expected, maybe even a lot more. So now the distributors are moving more stock instead of holding onto them for shops with close relationship (sell at markups to slowly bleed them into the market while making more money). Shops that had huge markup (HKD$25000 or so) are slightly lowering their price, or offer free Sazabi Option Parts Set to buyers already purchased one at those high price. Meanwhile even convenient stores like Seven Eleven, or mom & pop newspaper stands also get there hands on a couple to sell. Kind of reminds me of the Fidget Spinner fad a few years ago, but for rich toy collectors. It became a very strange situation with an abundant surge of stock in HK right now. Everyone wants to make a quick buck with it, and possibly price coming down if the demand is not high enough to bite on all the current markups (remember retail price is only around HKD$12000). Unfortunately for us, we most likely can't take advantage of this funny situation, since we don't live in HK.

My closest to TOTY material was X0 Ghost full cloth Metal Build but is close to the X1 full cloth. The other two releases I loved are not TOTY material ET Daidenjin and denzitiger and the sentai mecha of this year don onitaijin (awesome toy, best sentai mecha toy in decades).

For me, Blitzway/5PRO Voltron, CCS Shin Getter, POSE+ Baxingar DX Set ...and I'm sure Metal Structure Sazabi (but I won't receive it until likely Feb 2023, US retail. The price though makes it an unfair comparison since it is 3x the Carbotix Voltron.) Most disappointing was SOC Getter D2 (came out in 12/2021 but outside Asia was in 2022.) A retool of an older figure, nothing exciting about it AT ALL. Best Sub-$100 figures, I agree with S_Gokin on Action Toys Tetsujin28 and I will also add NewAge Firefox (legends scale Jetfire.)
Best value/price figure is Threezero MK44 Hulkbuster. That thing is worth its price in diecast.
