I though GX-97 was great. okay release not jaw dropping
GX-100 & 101 are also excellent. Just S_Gokin being S_Gokin. the GX-100 Daiku Maryu is just a huge size dino mech no LED no friendly way to display it, its cool dont get me wrong but not jaw dropping, while Gaiking is legit beautiful the articulation is very limited, the whole thing went on sale later on if it was as good the price would go up as for Daitetsujin 17 i know its cool and all but i think Action Toys beat Bandai to it and they did a better robot over all
back in the day when Bandai release a figure it becomes the best figure for the character by default now they are falling behind and yes im not easily impressed anymore The drill is huge! And yes, I prefer the sentinel over this. Pretty much everything is done better on it. thank you for sharing my friend, for me personally i think its a bit off from the promo pics, cant it hold the huge drill by its own or is that stand a must ?
Stand is required for the drill. There is really no connection point for the arm to plug into.

Comparison review. One thing I didn't realized is Riobot's Gurren is quite a bit better, shorter and stockier, showing slightly better engineering to reduce the height on Sentinel's side. Stand is required for the drill. There is really no connection point for the arm to plug into. Such an odd engineering choice. You would think people would at least want to plug the drill on the arm for a quick photo or two, even if it cannot sustain the weight for long display...instead of omitting it altogether.

In the previous pic posted by one of our members, looks like the sentinel's is actually bigger; however, in the JP comparison video, looks like he forgot to extend de ankles joint in the riobot. Thats why looks like same height/shorter than the SOC.

Action Toys' didn't beat GX-101 (most reviews & feedback I heard back then favored SOC). It only has the "Tokusatsu man-in-suit proportions" & size over the SOC, but the build quality is inferior. It was less solid, less well made, and even have some hip or leg joints issue. SOC is also very heavy for its size (though I don't remember which is heavier), has LED and sound gimmick, and all accessories it should come with. So I can't agree with you on this one, my friend. SOC line may not be very likeable these days, but can't dismiss them entirely when they did a great job...once in a blue moon.
no way man, action toys made two versions the first version is the one im talking about, ton of diecast, extremely solid joints and very well made, not to mention it was taller than the SOC, the SOC had feet scrapping issue as a design flaw
the 2nd version Action toys made i didnt bother with since it was 'man in a suit" version
at the end both AC and SOC have pros and cons but for me overall the AC is better, im not saying the GX-101 is bad, its under an "okay" release but there is other options
and honestly it a sad thing to see Bandai or the SOC line in this shape i never thought Riobot will beat them one day but here we go with GL lol
hey at least they didnt beat CCS

Wotafa no Himitsu Kichi~!
After watching a couple Chinese reviews, it is clear that this SOC is not quite there among the best. Seems decent, but also comes with a few common issues that seems a bit strange to have. Glad I picked the Riobot instead.

Hey, thanks gor the upload. Reading the jp coments on wotafa review, seems like everyone agree this release is soso. One theory here, is that probably this Gurren lagan was designed a long time ago, even before riobot, but due to licensing issues, they may hold onto it for some time. Thats explain on some of the desing choices in transformation and other stuff

Bandai will almost always go for anime accuracy over anything else. I think this is one reason things like Riobot/Sentinel tend to pop more they will, sharper lines, fancier finishes. Bandai aims to look like the model sheets, and they tend to look more "basic" as they are designed to be animated.

I think the drill needs a motorized kit to spin

the main issue here is they are stuck in the old ways
focusing on anime accuracy and calls it a day, what about articulation ? LED's ? cool gimmicks ?
nope

The design looks cool but I don’t know much about this super robot. I’ll have to try and find the anime and see if I can get into it before I pick this up.

They decided to skimp and minimize paint.... if they paint the figure it would look much higher end.... I think the drill needs a motorized kit to spin They're willing to smother a figure in paint, just look at their metal build figures. the main issue here is they are stuck in the old ways focusing on anime accuracy and calls it a day, what about articulation ? LED's ? cool gimmicks ? nope That it combines can be considered a gimmick, but Sentinel already did that better than them last year. The giant spinning drill is also a gimmick, though since you have to spin it yourself it's not as impressive as some motorized stuff we're seeing now, though with how big it is I don't know how feasible that would be without making it more expensive and/or noisy. The design looks cool but I don’t know much about this super robot. I’ll have to try and find the anime and see if I can get into it before I pick this up. I'm honestly surprised you didn't watch it, since it's the most popular mecha anime of the last two decades, and probably the last mecha anime that ever got a huge following. If you were to get it, you're better off either getting the CCS version if you want a stylized take, or Sentinel for a more toon accurate one that can do the combining gimmick as well.

It looks very plasticy, because it is exactly that, bare plastic.😆 Like many SOCs, they use polished bare plastic for a good number of the parts, and that didn't go as well with the red.

The design looks cool but I don’t know much about this super robot. I’ll have to try and find the anime and see if I can get into it before I pick this up. You will likely love this show. It is one of the best super robot show in the past 15 years. It appears goofy and comedic at first, but keep watching. It gets very epic, very emotional, very hot blood, and has a lot of heart. I would recommend watching the TV series first, jnstead of going for the 2 movies. Movies are prettier, but you lose a lot of content and character building. Watch those after the TV. And soon, you'll find yourself shopping for a Gurren Lagann figure.😎

Yeah I thought about possibly picking up the CCS version thinking id eventually watch it but I missed out on the original. So I was trying to determine which one I go with between this one, the Sentinel or the CCS reissue. I guess I’ll see which is most cost effective. Money is tight and I need to save my beans for other releases. Thanks!
