You can look around US shops, but you won't find the majority of this stuff.
Abandon all hope man.
US Released characters were pretty random, most of the characters never making it here at all. Prof Gangrene, Tempest, I forget the name of the clear blue guy. None of the "COOL" enemies ever made it here.
Did you ever see a NO FACE in the USA? I remember when that figure was announced at toyfair and then I found out the costs to import him, That was when I gave up and said to hell with it all.
We instead got stuff like Archery AM figures on rocket skates and with throwing discs. TOO MANY dayglow colors man.
It all became more extreme sport oriented and aimed at a younger crowd.
The US version of the Robot Arm Dr x figure was the last figure I remember seeing in the USA, at a WALMART. (We just had the one, while in the UK, they must have made a totally new version of the robot arm figure every 2 months - I am NOT KIDDING)
That was around the same time as Max Steel figures.
The USA only had the NO FRILLS versions of the Action man line at best.
Just the basic figures carded (I think KB toys had special skinny box versions like they did the GI JOES)
We never saw 90% of the UK stuff. None of the massive vehicle sets or figure two packs that came out all through the 1990's were released stateside. Cool stuff, but the market is so terrible... The figures can cost mere pence in the thrift stores - costing up to 2 pounds (up ro $3.50)
Now if are lucky and can find an auction with only ONE figure and you IF you win at 1-2 pounds. The figure will be loose and severely incomplete. You are may still be talking an end total price of $15 - 20 after postage (for a $1 figure from the thrift store missing everything), depending on how negotiable the seller may be.
If you are talking MIB, the price goes up from there.
I am still trying to find a way to rationalize it all, but the prices still don't make it worthwhile for consumers. The boxed vehicle sets along are so HUGE I don't want to think about the prices.
This has been one of those toylnes I always think fondly of. I just can always think of more reasons to NOT buy them than to go to all the trouble.
All the 1st series figures (such as space commando) cost me $50 or more to import in the 1990's. Seeing the same older 1990's AM figures already imported to the USA & MIB priced DOWN to $15 just depresses me when I see the loose value in the uk.
Thus my modern UK exclusive AM collection is pretty spotty.
It is actually cheaper to win japanese figures on Yahoo Japan and go through a bidding agent than buy the cheapest AM figures in the UK.
