Hey all - hope I'm not too out of line posting a sale here - I know that I tend not to look at the for sale section of this board because it mostly has non-microman/henshin stuff so goodies fly by unnnoticed - goodies such as this super rare microman vintage Super Steel m223 Rocky. Details are on the acution page - naturally he flies and stops trains as shown in the commercial: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290127689939I was shocked to find that www.microforever.com the bible of Microman doesn't even have a page on these guys! Micropola.org does though on their 1975 page: www.micropola.org/archived/1975.html

The photo on Page 19 of "Takara SF Land Encyclopedia: Henshin Cyborg • Microman • Diaclone" (Kodansha, 1999) identifies him as M-203 Rocky, because the caption on the photo says "From the left," and the blue one is the last on the left: M-203 Rocky. With M-201 Robin (red) and M-202 Robert (green), these were the first diecast issues, nicknamed the "Super Microman." (The first line of Microman plastic figures were the M-111 and the M-121 series.) The M-221 series (with Hand Bazookas) did not have the chrome chest pieces that the M-201, M-202 and M-203 do -- like the photo you posted, which -- again -- is identified as the M-201 Robin, according to the authorized book celebrating the 45th Anniversary of Takara. Other diecast Microman figures in the first series were the M-211-213 (also called "Super Microman II"). The information contained within the pages of the "Takara SF Land Encyclopedia: Henshin Cyborg • Microman • Diaclone" (which comes with a CD-Rom) should be considered definitive. Hope this helps!

The M22x series most certainly did come with chest plates. Sorry to be so blunt, but this figure is definitely M223, not M203. The biggest giveaway is the hole in his back. The M20x series had a smooth back, no hole. The screw that held him together went in the front instead, hidden under the chest plate. There are other differences (like the hands), but the back hole is the easiest one to spot. Nice figure, johnnyhaggis. I wish I could buy him from you, but I'm strapped for cash right now. Good luck on your auction. - Tom V.

Magnemo, don't shoot the messenger; I am only going by what the above mentioned book says. If you have an argument with the data, take it up with the editors.
Cheers,

This is definitely m223 not m203 - I wish it were m203 'cause then it'd be evenmore rare and I'd get alot more money for it!! I actually have the m20x figures, but not for sale! I lowered the price on this one by the way! No bids so far! The main difference between 22x series and 20x series is the hole in the back as well as the shape of the hands and the fact that the m22x came with bazookas and the m20x didn't. Plus the Green m201 is an emerald green whereas the green m221 is darker more bluegreen. The m20x series have the old style hands and have no holes in their backs. The screw to open them up is behind their chestplates. August I think you might be thinking that the m22x have no chestplates because in the SF book maybe they show the figures holding their bazookas - the bazooka attatches to a stud behind the chestplate, and you have to take the chestplate off to hook up the bazooka. Here's the m20x series And here's the m22x Gotta love microman - they really photograph well.

I am just going by what is in the book (I read Japanese) and if the book is mistaken, that's not on me. I am not a Microman toy fan; someone asked a question, I have a book on the history of Takara's toys, and just transcribed what was said in said book. I didn't come here to get raked over the coals...

Don't worry august - no one is raking you over the coals or even criticising you! We're just saying what we know vs what you said, you shouldn't take it personally at al! Thank you for sharing what's in the book.

There's the crux of this, its' not "me vs. everyone else," it should be "the book vs. everyone else." See? The problem is with the book -- I read Japanese, so that's not the problem -- if you don't own a copy of this particular book, you cannot see that it's apparently misleading. Cool?
Again, "Don't shoot the messenger."

You're misintepreting what I'm saying - nobody's blaming you for anything. Yes, I believe you that your book was misleading and it isn't your fault. We were just correcting the info that's all! You were being nice for sharing the info, so thanks!

true words johnny as always, and word up to you August, many of us micro fans don't have the book, and are thankful for ANY info on the rarer figures. so little info in the world of 1970s takara in english. i'd give him a good home, but my cash is low.
