August 2004 is coming, and I understand EVA 01 (SOC GX-14) is going to be re-released!
Anyone else know which other SOCs will be re-released?

The Mazinger femme bots are also going to be re-released with the whole angel-chrome treatment and slight redesign (high heels and boob jobs woo-hoo!).

is the evangelion series any good? i haven't seen the dvd's yet but i'm not sure if i'm sold on the skimp robot designs. what's your take peeps?

It depends on whether you are up for a brain-numbing experience. It starts out with the super cyborgs taking center stage but soon focuses on the psycholgy of the characters and some say the director Anno. IMO, this anime was pretty good. Great character development with a realistic psychological look into the human mind. The Evas' designs are pretty good also.

I have the black EVA and the chrome EVA. They are pretty pose-able and come with a bunch of weapons.
If you decide to buy any, I recommend either the Purple EVA (GX-14) or the chrome EVA (GX-22).
The Purple EVA is getting re-issued in August.
If you decide to buy the anime, get the box set and End of Evangelion only. I highly recommend you NOT to buy Evangelion: Death and Rebirth. This is a rehash of both the box set and the first half of End of Evangelion.
Warning: This series may cause confusion.

Each is unique enough to be different but still have a family resemblence. As for the series, everything is awsome up untill the end which is just f****d up. I bought both movies too, and watching it feels like I ate a bag of shrooms and pounded back a twelve pack  . |

I have the DVDs, the beginning is terrific, but like everyone says, the end is REALLY strange. Overall, the ending just screwed it up for me. I wish they didn't do that. And how many times do we need to hear that kid w/ the psychological problems shriek out loud at the top of his lungs? What's with that beer chugging penguin? Still, I think the EVAs look really cool, and I love the weapons they use! I didn't buy End of Evangelion, but I will now, to see if it resolves any of my confusion.
Mazingox, you recommended buying the purple and chrome one, just wondering why the black one isn't up there with your 'must haves' too. Anything wrong with the black one or the accessories it comes with? Are his accessories not as varied and cool? I'm saving up right now to buy chrome and black EVA, but will listen to your (and anyone else's) thought as to the best EVAs to get.
I've checked out the yellow one and wasn't impressed w/ the features (shield and sniper rifle?). The blue one was kind of cool, but I'd prefer guns over tridents anyday. The red one, I don't think I ever saw the back of the box for the red one and know what it came with.

Hey Cedar, Don't get me wrong, I like the BLACK EVA-03 also. But if I could only get two, I'd get the Purple and Chrome. That's just my opinion. The Chrome also has Black arms, but it looks cooler on the shelf. The reasons I recommended purple are due to the following: 1) It's the main EVA in the anime. 2) It looks wicked. 3) It's getting re-issued and it was going up in price. 4) It's got a sword (which looks wicked), handgun, rifle, and bazooka. The Black EVA comes with a larger bazooka, knife, smash hawk, and rifle. It also comes with a Parasite Angel to place in the entry plug area. The chrome EVA comes with the positron rifle, bazooka, sonic glaive, knife, and the regular rifle. It has purple hands though whereas the box showed it having light bluish hands. All three look great and if you can afford it, get all three. In the General Toy Discussion Board, there was a thread on this called: GOT EVA? It's like b/w pages 12-17. Worth reading. There was another thread called GX21 or GX-22 (which one?) where there was a poll on whether the black was better or the chrome. This is in the Chogokin/Shogun Warriors area. Hope this helps you in your purchase.  Also, JoshB did a fabulous review on Purple EVA in collectionDX under the review area and Drifand did an article on the Black and Chrome in toyboxdx.com under Toy Rumble dated March 2004. |

Bah, just buy em all!
If not, I'd try to get the Purple one first, as mentioned before it is the "main" eva from the series. It has the coolest head design as well (IMHO). If you can't tell in pictures (look carefully) they all have far different heads.

Yeah right RX79! ;D I've tried using that line before: 'Honey, Happy Anniversary! Here's an Xbox game we can play together!' Dead silence. Mazingox, thanks for the thoughts and the comprehensive description of what each toy comes with. That's the problem with some of the reviews, they only show some pics of the toys in their cool poses, but not enough pics of all the accesories they come with. I'll start w/ chrome and black. I've read the reviews on Collectiondx and Toyboxdx, in fact, Drifand's review is what led me to want both of them. Toybox also has an EVA-01 rumble too by MattAlt and pics by genius Brisko. I haven't read the EVA threads, so will look those up! Thanks again! |

Honestly, the Eva figures are some of the best. I watched the anime after getting the first figure, and the anime was great too. What a bonus. ;D
