Store Purchased From:
Item was purchased from At-Yen on eBay. Price was $5 lower then almost anywhere else I found (even other e-bay sellers) and shipping was free.
Overview:
Initially the toy seemed kinda small. Okay, really, really small. I actually spent a minute looking at the box wondering where the rest of it was. That went away though. This is a good, solid, toy. While not perfect it was nice enough that the person it was intended for (my girlfriend, not a real robot collector) was more then happy with it.
Though she did ask me why it had "nipples"..... ;D
Packaging:
Okay, this is just pretty. Not much to say though as the images of it are all over the net. They used very nice artwork and the cardstock is very nice as well. Over all, one of the best boxes I've seen.
Inside the toy is well packed. The figure herself was in a styrofoam "coffin" with the rest of the parts in plastic trays with covers. This is nice because you can put away parts if you don't want them displayed on the stands. It also makes it easy to re-package if you need to move.
On to the toy.
The Good:
This figure is just nice to look at. The paint is some of the best I've seen used on a toy. The white, and blue, parts have a pearl paint used. This makes the paint appear to shine more and allows for mild color changes in different lights. It costs more then regular paint, but looked nice.
The amount of diecast was impressive too. Very little plastic, the toy just felt sturdy.
Articulation was very nice too. Ankles, double-knees, double-elbows, kneck, hair , and so on.
While she doesn't come with many parts, she seems to have more then most of the girls. Her scrader is nice and solid, she has some extra "missiles" in case you loose some and she comes with "launchers" if you want to simulate her being out of ammo. Lastly, she has three sets of hands (slap, punch and wave).
The bad:
First there's her fist/wrists. You feel like you're going to break her arms mounting a set of hands on her. Taking them off is a matter of faith, you pray and hope the wrist-mount won't die.
The top of her stand doesn't "lock" in place, neither does the Scrader mount. They will stay in place, on their own, but when you move it around both parts like to work their way free. So always check these two when returning Venus, and her Scrader, to their stand.
The stand seems like it was a universal design for all the lady-bots, so some of it does nothing for Venus and other parts (like the scrader mount) seems like an afterthought.
The "nipples". I hate to put this here, but they should have put a non-detailed set of missiles in the package as well. They made them stand out to the point that you can see them from many feet away and it is kinda off setting. You will need to cover this one if mom is coming over to visit.
Her antenna have to be some of the most finniky-bits-O-toy I've had to fiddle with in a while. It will take a try, or two, to get them on the right sides and in a nice position. But don't apply to much pressure or you will deform them and have a hard time getting them straight again.
Overall:
This is a good toy and well worth the money. But she is small and you'll have to be able to appreciate the detail work, the materials, and so on, to understand the price.
What made this toy even cooler was...Well, it wasn't for me. I picked it up for my girlfriend. When she got home from work I had Venus standing on her stand with the scrader mounted behind it. After giggling at the working nipple-breast-O-doom for a few seconds, she commented that she really liked it, it felt like a nice toy, and would display well. She asked why her stand didn't say Venus on the front, but that's because I hadn't put the sticker on yet.
All in all, a good toy. Even non-robot people will like it. If you can find this one for $45, or less, shipped then you're getting a deal.
Also, shipping on this item should not be much. She isn't heavy at all (maybe a pound).
Now I need to get some of the others. Jenn (my GF) decided she likes some of the other Ladys (and the angels). She's not to sure about the breast-weapons on the angels though. Hehe.
