I know that toys were never made for Mighty Orbots but does anyone have good pics from the show I can use as reference material?

I remember this cartoon.....barely
I have strong memories of the big one that eats metal...and the two girls look familiar. It must have come on at the same time as Robotech or Transformers cause I don't recall really getting into the cartoon.
Anyway..cool

I loved the cartoon. I have half the series on VHS up in the attic. There was supposedly a prototype of the toy - basically a godmarz painted up to look like the orbot. I'm pretty sure the transformation of the orbot was based on the godmarz. Just talk another look at it.

I barely remember this cartoon and after reading those link, I know why: Even with the unrealistic movements given to super-robots, Orbots was the least realistic one of all since not only did the individual guys look human (didn't look mechanical except for weird coloured skin) but they actually GREW in size before being able to gattai! Maybe my expectations of giant robot shows was ruined by more complex designs like Transformers...

I think I remember the show now.
Seeing those pieces just lets me know that I started collecting way to late.

I'm pretty sure the transformation of the orbot was based on the godmarz. Just talk another look at it. When Tokyo Movie Shinsha released Orbots, the transformation sequence was exactly like GODMARS, and there was the subprocess of where the robots lost their "soft" edges and went totally angular. There was an episode towards the end called the "Mechanogen" which involved a nano-virus which animated normal machinery. The only reason that I bring it up is that it was this episode where the comine-sequence got SERIOUSLY jazzed up (Very Masami Ohbari) and the animation was totally top notch. There was an ode to Miyazaki (very Nausicaa-esque) as an viral bird mecha resembled one of the planes from Nausicaa. Loved this show, and REALLY wish it would come on DVD as not every episode was put on VHS
