Xiombarg: Great write-up on the Getter! Any pictures yet? This is dangerous. I can just now see the light of a zero balance credit card on the horizon. This thing could well mean a return to the darkness of unending toy-debt. The eleventieth circle of hell is reserved for the toy geeks. Here they wallow in endless anxiety over EMS shipments, e-bay feedback, and the die-cast content of their graven idols.... Dante.JWM LOL! No pics yet.. I'll see how motivated I get this afternoon.

I would compare nothing to the getter as well. It is just very different in look. however, if by content, probably the maxfactory gokins because they feel pretty darn heavy as well... Thing is about MF's figures is that they have this really refined feel that you don't get from most other companies. With figures like the Black Getter and say for example, MPC Voltron, there is a rougher quality to them, and for the most part they aren't flaws, it's just how the working mechanisms, connections and moving parts feel in general.

Ya know, all the comments about MF make out the maxgokins to be pretty much perfect quality, but I must have been unlucky with my Mazinkaiser. First, it had a few minor paint flaws here and there, the same kind SOCs sometimes have. Not so bad, except for the big scratch on one of the breast fire plates (fortunately it was an OVA one and I don't like the OVA, didn't plan on using it). 2nd, the Z's in the sword hilt/ chest piece were tilted. But worst of all, it couldn't stand up perfectly straight because the bottom of the foot is plastic and the screws were tightened unevenly in such a way as to bend the plastic, making it bulge downwards below the diecast. I managed to 99% fix that problem with a screwdriver, hair dryer and some pliers, but it messed up the paint on that plastic piece, which can be seen on the side too, not just on the bottom of the foot. It's not a spot your eyes tend to go and at the height I display it, you cant see the bottom half of the feet anyway, but the whole thing was very frustrating.
Oh, one last problem, the sword blades fall out of the hilts like crazy, to the point that the big sword just could not be held without making the blade point straight up or the blade would fall right off. Had to fix that with super glue to thicken the connecting piece.
OK, and actually I just remembered one more problem. It is sooooo INSANELY hard to push the articulating arms into the most contracted position that I was really afraid of breaking the toy, and I would bet most people that dont read Japanese that have this toy dont even realize the articulating arms contract (and extend- at full extention they're double-jointed, and fully contracted theyre only a tiny bit more posable than the firing fists. Which incidentally somehow manage to fire even worse than the Aoshima Mazinkaiser's fists).
All that said, it still looks really cool.

Maybe I'm just lucky?
Now I did have the problems with the blades being loose in the hilts (I use blue stick goo for these kinds of things). One thing I found with the big sword is that if I pushed the blade in at a tiny bit of angle, it sort of snaps into place. The little ones seem to be the really loose ones with mine.
But as for rest, all my Zs are positioned correctly, my fists shoot good.. and with your arms not sliding in and out.. weird, because my arms slide in and out really easy. I don't even have to apply any real pressure.
- Ataru, just curious, where did you buy yours from?

Got it from BCBcomics. I know it's not a special thing for the ones shipped through Diamond though- all of these flaws except for the bent foot plastic piece were also mentioned in Japanese reviews I've read. I think you got lucky and I got unlucky, with the average Mazinkaiser being somewhere in the middle.
Also Xiombarg, are you *sure* your Mazinkaiser's arms are going all the way in and out? Because all the way in, the arms look 99% identical to the firing arms- you can see only the thinnest sliver of gold from the joint. All the way out on the other hand, the fist can about touch the shoulder, since its a full double joint. I remember in Gold's review him saying he switched to the firing arms to make it look more proportional, but this is absolutely unnecessary if you contract the arms as much as they can be contracted. With mine at first it was extremely hard to full extend OR contract, to the point that I didnt realize it could be done until I read the manual.

Ataru - You're right about the arms.. I didn't realize they were supposed to slide in any further. I guess mine slide about half way. I just assumed that was as far as they were supposed to go. Trying to push them any further feels like way too much pressure. I would rather just switch out to the other biceps for that look.
Hmm, maybe I'll have to go back to my original statement about the joints only.
Kidchuckle - There are two sets of biceps. One set has the joints for articulation, and the other has a spring loading mechanism to fire the fists but don't have elbow joints.

The black getter is really cool, but with all of the other stuff he's got, I think he looks better when he isn't holding the axe. Xiombarg- it really takes an insane amount of pressure. pony-hp.web.infoseek.co.jp/MAX-KAISER.htmIf you look in this link, you can see what it's like fully contracted. More posable than the firing arms, so it's better for natural looking standing poses, but it's not *that* different so I really can understand not wanting to bother with it with how hard it is to get them like that.

Don't you hate that.. but the pay off of when you get it will be nice. Hopefully you won't pull out all your hair in the meantime. Also, if you seller is sending it by SAL it could take up to 45 days. It's torture for items like this, so hopefully he sent it EMS.
