Masterpiece King Exkaiser, the first Braver. I was going to skip this at first since the colors seemed a bit yellowish.. turns out it was just the packaging that caused it to look off-white, the toy is actually very white. Exkaiser Combines with King Loader trailer to form King Exkaiser A few minor problems with quality control 1) Paint chips, right out of the box, mine even had one on the face of the lion chest plate 2) My unit came with TWO RIGHT FEET?? To check if the feet are right look underneath to see if the toy's headlights are on opposite sides... mine were both on the right.. didn't affect the toy when robot mode though. In fact, I didn't notice this until I tried connecting the two vehicles together in trailer mode. 3)Huge chip on the sword edge.. roughly 0.5 inches long.. happened before the electroplating stage so the chip is chromed but it's really obvious(like somebody took a bite out of the sword).. 4) loose neck(balljoint) for the Exkaiser stand.. practically useless.. 5) plastic parts feel kinda cheap.. not really high quality stuff. Takara must be cost-cutting... On the plus side -the robot weights 480Grams and 550Grams when Exkaiser is inside. -Lots of accessories(hands, projectiles) and -the toy is very poseable and has ratchet joints in the legs and knees. Overall, it was OK, given the price(got it for around 80$), but Takara really needs to do something about their QC.. it's gone even more downhill than when they released MPC UltraMagnus. Here's hoping Dragon Kaiser will be much better.. Gold

Hey great pics and review Gold. THANKS! The quaility seems pretty damn bad for a "Takara" toy. Well, i never believed Takara had that great of a quality control in the first place. I still and always have believed bandai is faaaar superior with quality. They still use foam to package their stuff like old school although alot will not like the idea of foam. Paint chips? where? For some reason, i can tell the quality of plastic is better or better fit at least with Bandai products. And products like these show why Bandai is the #1 spot for Japanese toy designers in Japan. It is still the #1 company to work with. I heard everyone wants to work there. I wish i can work there. But anyway, the review is great. Two right feet? That is unacceptable. For a $100 toy? That is crap. Takara is cost cutting for a fairly small toy like this and still $100? Plastic is now no where to be found or something? I really hope they bring back their quality up again to at least MP Optimus as people said were really good quality. And wasn't he also around $100? That guy seemed complicated to transform, it seems to have more diecast, and it's taller and heavier. I don't understand??? I'm still dreaming. I'm telling you, Bandai brave series. ;D ;D

It sounds like some of the King Exkaisers had really major QC problems. I'm thankful mine doesn't have anything major like out-of-the-box paint chips or assembly issues. I guess it's just the luck of the draw when QC is so bad...

Also, Gold, the lion chest actually comes out more on King Exkaiser. You sort of have to drag it out by the teeth, literally. And the little white triangles on the top of King Roader near the front raise a bit higher so they actually do connect with the wings. You just have to, again, sort of force them up. But then getting them to stay up as you connect the wings to the triangles is another issue >_<. It's these sorts of things that kind of make me want a version 1.2...

Thanks Lonerboy , actually when I got my MPC UltraMagnus back then, it was missing a piston in its left knee.. Now my King Exkaiser has two right feet(you can see it in the pic when he's in trailer mode.. the headlights are flush left).. it just goes to show, Takara's heart just isn't in it anymore.. Thankfully my local retailer agreed to replace the units with problems(thanks Greattoys ) Thanks for the tips Mightgaine,I forgot to mention those in the review Thanks for the compliments MannyD and Howieh Gold

I don't know anything about King Exkaiser (outside of I think he might be a cop or something) but the toy does look mighty nice. Dig the review and the pics helped reinforce my wanting of him might get him after Optimus though.

Gold, your brief review and pics for the figure is great . However, please enlighten us on where the die-cast parts are ! Can it compare to general SOCs in terms of plastic quality and finishing ?! I think a little panel-lining can felp the figure immensely. To me, the lines are not emphasized enough - same can be applied to the CM Gao Gai Gar and Genesic Gao Gai Gar, IMHO.

The Diecast is mostly limited to the 1)Exkaiser legs(except the feet) 2)King Exkaiser -Lion chest -whole legs(Except feet, and front parts of the legs that fold out, I think those are plastic) The arms and shoulders are all plastic too if I remember right.. The scale and design is closer to Takara's THS series. The Hybrid Series is a line of smaller scale fully transformable figures based on the Transformers line. As of right now Takara apears to be alternating between THS and MP Brave toys. THS 1 was Galaxy Convoy and there were a load of problems with him MP King Exkaiser fixed alot of those and introduced the idea of a display stand for the smaller toy. THS 02 G1 Convoy improved on this by replacing the ball joint in the display stand (which sucks, big time; I can only get Exkaiser to look like he is flying) with a swivel joint. Since they just released MP Dragon Kiezer I think the next toy will be a THS one.
Now with that all said I bought this guy on a whim and WOW he rocks! I'm am so digging the big sword and the way the small robot merges with the bigger one. I have a thing for smaller scale toys and this is a nice one.

That's an interesting theory, I had noticed the alternation in the MP line & was expecting Takaras next new Brave toy to be a MP Fighbird & released early next year.
I see what you're saying about the similairities between the THS Convoys & the MP Exkaizer figure but I don't think there are that many Brave characters which would a) work in that smaller scale without a power up mech of some sort & b) Who would also be popular enough on their own to warrant that treatment. Mic Sounders is possibily the only chara that springs to mind and he would look very odd being all on his own and completley out of scale with the other GGG toys.
I suspect that the next THS will be either G1 Megatron or God Ginrai, possibily a different leader like Rodimus Convoy but my money would be on Ginrai.

I was going to say Ginrai too but lets not for get Ultra Magnus. Incidentally I wasn't sure if the line would be continued. Galaxy Convoy sold poorly but G1 Convoy is going into a second production run, due to the place card for MP-03 Starscream. I can see the Brave series continuing but perhaps not with the combiners as you said due to the size.

Gold - Are the paint chips where there is chromed electroplating or on the paint?
I have a couple of figures where the chrome flaked right off just by touching it, and I find the chrome worn off when buying older toys all the time. I'm not much of a fan for chrome because of this.

Intially out of the box? Nope, but there are certain areas that are prone to chipping when you use them. For example - the "fastener" slot for the sword and handle connection - The white painted parts on Dragonkaiser's wings(when you fold them out) - the blue "wristbands" on Great Exkaiser(I slightly chipped mine while taking them out of their hiding place, didn't notice the ridges in hiding place, chipping this is avoidable though.. just watch out for those ridges in the arm-hiding cavity) -the Dragonkaiser chest plate worries me though, but I've yet to notice chipping when you break it in half to change into Great Exkaiser parts. Is it just me or are the hands on King Exkaiser impossible to get off without causing you to rupture a blood vessle? I tried to switch to the "Parry" hand for his sword and couldn't get it on! The normal hand pops on and off quite nicely, but the other one,; ho boy.
