I've seen the huge marketing push for Seed, from the new Anime to toys to models. They did the same thing before for Gundam Wing and I wasn't that impressed. I just want to know how Seed compares to my favorite Gundam series, Gundam Stardust Memories.

Haven't seen the Anime, but own both Chogokin Metal Material Strikes and have the 1/60 Freedom Strike. I too am a fan of 0083 and actually all of the UC stuff, others well...
As far as mobile suits are concerned I like the Freedom, Aile Strike and Sword and Launcher stuff, much like good ole '78 but with modern improvements.
As for the Anime, from what other who have seen it have said it looks like it is very promising especially for UC-ers who are apprehensive about a new, new universe Gundam show, but this one is suppose to have similarities to the MS Gundam Series and 0083 in that Gundams are stolen. Isn't the Cartoon Network going to be adding this show in their new line up? I we will soon see what the hooplah is all about. ;D

heh....now here is something else I have learned about.
From what I have seen of the Gundam Seed Eps (I have DC and have dl'd GIGS of stuff....) I know most of you have probably seen the first two eps on toonami, but let me tell you this. Its an awesome series. The drama, the animation, the story, and for Sete's Pake, the MUSIC!!!! I am hoping they put out a soundtrack here shortly. Anyways, as for the show, this is one of those that the story just pulls you in deeper and deeper. The action parts are phenomenal, and the back story parts are quite intriguing. I just hope the english version doesnt cut it to pieces like they did with the "after" G1 transformers seasons (headmasters, victory etc)
As for the toys, I havent seen any yet. Does anyone know of a good place to maybe get some? I wonder if the toys will have the interchangability that strike has in the series. For those of you that may not know, the Gundams names in the series are Strike (good guy) Piloted by Kira Yamato Aegis ("bad guy") piloted by Asuran Zara, Kira's old and dear friend Blitz (bad) piloted by Nikoru Duel (bad) piloted by Izaac, Izyk (seen four different names for him so far) Buster (bad) Can't remember the pilots name, thinks it Natkyru or something........
Beware though, lots of plot twists and turns and things that wanna make you scream.......

I've heard that it's popular enough in Japan that a sequel is in the works: Gundam Seed 2. Very shortly, Gundam Seed figures should hit the domestic market inc. the big chain stores like Target. I've actually already seen some Gundam Seed figures for sale on sites like Bigbadtoystore.com .

TISInc.com has great Gundam model prices, but the rest of their stuff is over-priced. I have ordered from them in the past, and while a tad slow...they did deliver everything as promised. As a bonus, you can reach them by phone as well. They sell most of their stuff on e-bay as well.

There stuff *is* overpriced, but when stuff's getting rare they can occasionally be the way to go. I got my liger and poseidon from them for $70 a piece when every other store was out of stock or was selling them for $80+. Now I'm glad I paid a little too much instead of waiting and paying even more or just giving up on them.

For those interested in the mecha for this series, I've learned that the 7.5" Launcher Gundam is now available in the U.S. It's the plastic version and it's cheap (under $20).

Bah, just get the Chogokin. It is NICE! ;D I've made the decision that I will no longer purchase Gundam action figures....just not enough space. But I always have room for more Chogokins. Bill

Yeah, I already have the excellent chogokin Gundam Aile and Launcher Gundam. I'm sure the plastic version is inferior to the heavy diecast version.

If you are referring to the Material Metal Chogokin Series, yes they are sooo cool. I am more of a SOC collector but I am greatly impressed with the Strike Gundam and the Strike Gundam (with Sword and Launcher). I would like to see Bandai release MM versions of the Duel, Buster, Blitz, etc. Also, I've been watching the series on the Cartoon Network here in manila and have been equally impressed with the retelling of the Gundam story. I look forward to ending season one and seeing season two.

I was not a huge fan of Gundam, the story is a bit too complicated for me as a kid growing up, but the robot designs were really cool! I really love the sabres and weapons they used, thought the idea of a robot using a nifty red shield was COOL. Anyway, I received MMM Sword & Launcher as a birthday present earlier this year which sort of kick started me back to collecting chogokin. For the longest time I was looking for MMM Aile Strike, and today I won him! And not just the regular one, but with the see thru plastic armour! Can't wait to get him! It's going to be a loooong week! ;D

Oh crap! I just realized that this Metal Material Model Crystal HK Ltd Version is another Launcher & Sword Strike, not the original Strike Gundam (with the shield)!
Decisions decisions...

That's a shame. The original one is cool. If you're gonna sell the clear one, I am interested. (Sorry, this post is self-serving. )

I guess I'll wait till it comes in first and if you're still interested, I'll let you know (send you a PM). I may just keep it, have it display the sword and boomerang, and have the original one display the machine gun and still get the third one down the road, but my wife doesn't like that idea!

I have a question re: Gundam Seed... are the Mobile Suit units 'mass produced' (i.e. a whole squad of identical Strike Gundams?) or is there only ONE Strike Gundam piloted by a specific pilot?

I haven't yet watched this series, but from what I've read about it the Strike Gundam is a prototype like the other Gundams that were stolen. The pilot of the Strike is named Kira who is basically an advanced human--like a Newtype in the original series. I look forward to watching this series (the buzz is that's it's pretty good) when it's all out on DVD. Bandai has begun releasing it on DVD a few eps at a time. I'll wait until the boxset is released.

Ah, prototype, meaning there is only one. I was just wondering if it would make sense to have three Strike Gundams (metal material models) posing side by side. It would look cool and menacing regardless, but I was wondering if such a thing could happen in the actual series! Guess not! Thanks for the quick reply.

Before anything else... (SPOILER ALERT)
I just finished the series and regarding your question, cedar.... here goes:
1) Gundam Seed basically starts out with the war between the Earth Alliance (the genetically unenhanced Humans, the Naturals) and ZAFT (the genetically enhanced Humans, the Coordinators.)
2) Though numerically superior, the Earth Alliance has incurred huge losses against Zaft and their mobile suits.
3) To combat the Zaft Mobile Suits, Earth has developed, with some assistance, the Gundams (Strike, Blitz, Duel, Aegis, and Buster).
4) Unfortunately, Zaft gets a hold of all the Gundams except one, the Strike.
... and the saga begins....
And to answer your original question, yes there are mass production model Gundams... including the mass produced Strikes... the M1 Astray.
(Mods, please feel free to edit this post if I gave too much away)
