I'm going to JAPAN in March 2007.
I have to admit that selling my old collection of various chogokins has brought me back into this hobby. It helped me pay-off alot of student debt.
But I've always enjoyed anime anyways.
Any good finds to look for? Going to Akihabara and attending the Toy Fes. at Big City in Tokyo.
I'll take some pics of rare finds.

Yeah... Cosplayers and if you happen by Akihabara, check out the pre-production samples that're displayed on several toy shops there. ;D

Enjoy your trip. Not sure about what kind of selection you'd be looking for. Something vintage perhaps?(of course) ;D I'm also going to Tokyo in march and wondering the same thing. Can't wait. Going w/ PopJapanTravel. Soooo excited!
Anyway, have fun! :-)

since everything is expensive in japan, i think old vintage robots will be too! & there's no bargaining in japan. maybe i'll find some treasures in a used thrift shop.
i'll probably just get some hard to find SOC's like gx-04s, gx-23 (zambo3) & ideon

Guys, My family is planning to go to Japan this june...... reading from your posts....... tells me that I should not raise my hopes up to get me some good buys and finds.... am i right? Not at all! It's Japan! You're going to find stuff there that will blow you away I'm sure. What I would say is that everybody's tastes are different and what is a treasure to one collector might be a waste of money to another. You have to look for what interests you. My range of interest s pretty broad. So, when I go I'll look for things like vintage Gokin to new stuff like Takaras 12'' Jin Roh Kerberos fig. Akihabara's video game stores are sure to yield some rare dreamcast and PS2 games and odd stuff in general. Also can't wait to pick up some scale models I've missed out on the last few months. More than likely I'll empty my savings on some Gundam Fix figs and the new GFF Metal Edition! In terms of deal making, I would definitely have some Yen on you, but you never know what kind of cheap deals you'll run into. Don't rely on cheap deals as a way to get those "inexpensive gokins". Just be prepared, thats all. No good finds.....are you kidding?!!

Thank you for raising my hopes up in scoring a good deal there bro...... I'm basically hoping to find rare Aoshima Getters or mazinkaiser..... or some rare but fairly priced (cheap hehe) Soul of Chogokins..... or my dream deal - vintage popy Voltes V all i can say is when it comes to collecting, the japanese are fearless when it comes to paying. whether its robots, vintage watches, jeans, etc. - they're willing to pay top $$$ and charge for it. there's no bargaining in japan. but i think you'll definitely find some rare stuff. the question is... how much?
