Are those joints for the transformation? Yep, without that ugly joint the side panels for vehicle mode won't fold out.

Got my Daimos opened and messed with it a bit. Still haven't transform it or play with most of its accessories. Has a little paint flaws, and a chipped Double Blizzard fan plate(good that I can use the Fire Blizzard one), but they are minor enough in this case. One of the left elbow joint is looser, so I opened it up and fixed it with adding some friction. But the overall impression is quite good. What I like about it is the proportion and articulation is very faithful to the nature of the character and can pull off some good kung fu poses, though the hip extension while functional, is very odd. Love the paintjob and the heft on the legs. However there are a couple design gripes I have. It still baffles me why they didn't opt for a ratchet hip, instead we get some odd extension, but the hip joint in no way able to sustain the weight of the legs on high kicks. Daimos is sturdy enough, but when it comes to the legs, the heft on the diecast legs tends to make the hip feel looser, causing 2 legs to bang onto each other often when lifting the figure. Have to lift it with a figure inserted between the legs to avoid that. Also, while the ankles are not loose, they are not tight enough to avoid any occasional lean forward or backward. Fortunately, Daimos' design has very big blocky feet, so that offset the leaning and prevent the figure from losing balance. Last thing is the face, which reminds me why I passed on Daimos at the beginning. Unlike many previous faces (GX-41 Raideen has a superb face), Daimos' face sculpt was a bit unappealing. Its not the bot design (I like it a lot), but more like the sculptor didn't spend as much attention to modernize the face compare to the excellent job on the rest of the body. The eyes especially has a very generic oval shape. For a great Daimos face, look at the sprite of the SRW games he appeared in. Then when I look at the SOC box art, the front and a few of the back photos all have 'custom paint job' with the eyes painted way bigger than the sculpt suggested, having a lot of yellow bleeding out of the eyes border, just to make Daimos' eyes bigger and has more shape to it. So even Bandai acknowledged that issue LOL, not just me. Also wish the small backpack has a locking tab, not just rely on friction on the back waist hinge. Aside a few of these minor design gripes, the quality is there, and I am very glad I finally add this to my collection. While Daimos may not rank top tier among SOCs for me, it came pretty close. I loved the show when I was little, and always like the red/black/yellow color scheme that stands out from other super robots. And I am glad I managed to find a brand new one without paying much mark-up. The figure feels hefty enough, and the joints overall feels nice and tight. I still haven't decide if I'll be transforming him yet (to avoid scratches), but I'll fiddle with all those cool accessories for sure. If only Daimos has a sturdier ratchet hip and a better sculpted face, it will sure be one of my all time favorites. So close...

Maybe Bandai will get it right next time... As for me, I don't really mind the minor flaws... Daimos will always be one the top tier robots as per my childhood... Which is main reason I collect anyways...

I always think the leg articulation design of this Daimos is a mess.

Agree! Maybe parts swapping was not such a bad idea with Daimos... }D

Not sure about mark down price. I was lucky to find one at retail price after all these years. Check Mandarake often and search in Japanese. Hopefully you'll see some at good price once in a while. I got mine there too, brand new. But used or open box ones might be cheaper.

Just hope for a re-issue. I doubt we'll see prices for GX-43 at Angolz for $100 again.

I don't get it. When I started shopping on mandarake late last year, they had like half a dozen Daimoses (Daimosi?) sitting there, but now they're all gone.
Did the interest suddenly rise for some reason?

Did the interest suddenly rise for some reason? They'll pop back in stock, and at the price you are looking for. Just be patient, it might be one or two, or a lot of them. Just depends on what they get on and when, so search them regularly and search all stores, with newly added products listed first.

What is That?! ...I gotta admit this is the first time I see Bandai rigging an SOC this way. Okay, well, I know it's for this Daimos figure to go into his vehicle mode, so I guess that something like this is necessary for the function of the effect. Just wanted to see what this figure looks like, too. Nice paint job. Hopefully fans will be pleased with it. Zman does a cool job posing it in all its karate moves, so ya can't go wrong there. zozo-mag

Lol... in case anyone needs this for their collection : Daimos - the US version AKA Starbirds. Poorly dubbed and they changed out the music and sound FX. But hey, it's still part of the nostalgia. The video is pretty decent given how old the film is. Gold
