I'm sort of just getting back into collecting chogokins, and i was curious to why Grendizer (GX-04 and GX-04s) is significantly more expensive than the other more popular soc's. Granted yes, you get more accessories on GX-04s but c'mon, P12,+++ (or around $270 ) for a china remake? Sorry to offend SOC fans, but even the best SOC today pales in comparison to the quality of the original Japan made robots during the day. But thats another topic. Can anyone enlighten me on the current status of Grendizer as a soc nowadays? Is it that rare? Did they stop making them? Did the one who design it die or something? I know it was never that popular here in the Philippines, although i was a fan back in the day. Mazinger z, Voltes, and G-force were the ones with more airtime (yes, i'm in my 30's thank you) So whats the deal with the high market price of the darn toy?

I disagree with the statement that the vintage robots were better quality. I've had die-cast Popy robots break apart in my hands for no reason (dropping, forcing, pulling). The quality of metal/diecast used "during the day" was way inferior in comparison to the SOC standards, and lets not even start with the plastic...
As far as the Grendizer, yes it is out of production. It has been released at least three times already - original GX-04, the GX-04S, and a second release of the GX-04S last September 2007). Bandai has not come out and said they were not going to do a last run with the Grendizer yet, but they already said it for the GX-03 Combattler.
So, in the meantime, the SOC Grendizer's price will remain high due to the supply and demand.

Doh...I should have bought the GX-04s when I had the chance at around P10k+. Hope it's still available. Btw, is the GX-04 still available in our local market?

Grendizer is best remembered as one of the first anime shows to have a huge success in Europe and Canada, particularly in France and Quebec (known as Goldorak), Italy and Malta (known as Goldrake), where it holds a strong following even today. Grandizer was also one of the most popular anime series ever shown in Arabic countries, including kuwait. Grandizer is also popular in Russia. i've rarely seen a super robot this famous in different countries during it's time. so its huge popularity and being one of the best gokins seen in the soc line makes it particularly expensive.

I bought GX04 in 2000 for way over $250. Oh the glory of the dotcom days... I then purchase the additional ships for an additional $100. With tax and shipping, I paid close to $400. It is worth it... I guess. Though in hindsight, I should have just purchased the GX04S... But I didn't know that would be releases.

Yup popularity plus a no current production means increased prices. Also GX-04/S is arguably one of the best SOC's made even though it's close to eight years old.

Grendizer is a cool robot in high demand. I bought mine about 6 months after it was first released and paid 170.00 on ebay. Like SuperAnimerobot mentioned, Grendizer is popular in many different parts of the world like mazinger. Grendizer, his Spazer, and the accessories included with the GX-04 make this a very popular soc.

The Gx-04 and the Gx-04X (Spacers only) were never reissued. Only the Gx-04S "King of Space" set was reissued (4 - 5 times even). I guess this could explain why the Gx-04 is so expensive.

Since we're on the subject of the GX-04 Grendizer, lately I've been getting comments from fellow SOC collectors about the Spazer's white plastic turning yellow. It hasn't happened with my two GX-04 sets yet. On the other hand, I've seen online sellers trying to get rid of theirs with a note saying that the Spazer has turned slightly yellow.

Whoah! I gotta check mine, since it hasn't been taken out of the box...
I truly hope this is an isolated incident.

Got Damn ! I am not alone ! I noticed ( this week) that my GX-04 spacer (1st version) got his plastic turned yellow. Tomorrow I will take some macro shoots.
The plastic seems to be very sensitive to daylight. My spacer is close to a window ( light comes from it's right side), and now the right sliding door turn yellow.
Roboto, you said your deluxe set spacer keep it's white color ? Maybe Bandaï changed the plastic when they out this set... Anyone has some info about the plastic quality between these 2 versions ?
Because after I discovered this, my focus is to get a new one...
(My Gakken Alpha-fighter is a part of the yellow toys family...)

Ewww I have the original GX-04 and mine still whiter than a coal miners butt lol. But it hasn't been exposed to sunlight or cigarette smoke.

You all are trembling to expose your Grendizer to sunlight. You turn it into a vampire ! ! ! ;D
Next week I will buy some anti-uv protector film. Till now I am keeping my shutters off.
I really have to know if the re-issue is better quality plastic or not.
