There is a speed, but it would be faster I believe. Yes, that is something that would be good to do.... to slow it up. Thanks for the feedback

Awesome! I've wanted one of these for a long time, but they're not that common and always command a decent price. As you mentioned, it seems that many of these on auction had broken parts.

Pretty well EVERY one will have a broken hinge. Don't let that turn you off if you get a super price. Just expect to keep the wings in fixed positions and expect the worst. I got one mint loose with broken parts...then got a second one boxed with just one broken hinge (we thought). The boxed one flew apart in shipping ....darned brittle blue. Oh, and the upper brige is held on by brittle blue...it broke too.
Think of the Blue Albegas robots, aka Voltron 2. It is the same deal where they come apart due to a bad batch of plastic. As with this guy, just keep it as a static toy or keep some glue handy and say f*&% it.
My latest attitude has been to let these problems slide. I've just decided that some toys will be like relics that REQUIRE glue, like old broken plates. There is a certain warped charm :/

Great review Ed. I've been thinking of picking one of these up myself. Did you know there was a grey colored version of this. I wonder if it's a later release and if it holds up better than the "brittle blue?"

Ed I'll let you know, but never actually seen a grey for sale/reviewed - just a couple of pics from a popinica book and from someones collection, but I always keep my eyes open. Edit: Here's someone from an Italian board that has it. Box looks the same as the blue version: www.giocattolivecchi.com/gv_rec_detail.asp?id_rec=79It still has partial blue pieces, notably in the key hinge area's, so I'm not sure it would hold up better than the full blue. I guess only way to find out is to pick one up - but easier said than done.

I still got my Daimos base thirty years ago. When I move to U.S., my parent pack those toys of mine (and since they don't know how to handle them, some of them need repair because some of the Popy toys were damage during storing). I was able to restore some of them like Daimos, Dangard Ace and Daimos base. I'm still restoring other popy (with new paint and some repair).
