This is a poll to see how people of RJ collect. Something i have been curious about. Please choose on and some words as to why you do it the way you do. For refference, OP (Original Packaging and OOB (Out of Box).
I personally used to take all my toys out and displayed them (keeping all boxes). But now I just take them out for a spell to see whats going on then back in the box it goes. I made the change for several reasons, one space, two resellability. Some must be displayed but this is based on my own personal criteria. However, recently i have been contimplating taking them out again. What say you?

If you love something, set it free My preference is actually in the middle of the last 2 choices.

I display my vintage out of box with the boxes in behind the toy, where space allows. Dont care much about resellability as I dont plan on selling (this decade at least). I've just started collecting about a year ago, so space is ok for now.

I keep boxes, but usually it's because I want to have something to pack them into if I ever move :lol. I don't have any deep sentimental attachment to them, really.
All of my figures are set free. Doesn't matter the value.

I keep the box to keep everything but i'm not too bothered if the box is messed up from opening/closing it.

i voted OOB all times must be displayed (save boxes), but right now i dont have the luxury of dispalying due to having a small apartment. but this is what i would be doing if i have the space. the only ones displayed are the loose ones.
nice pics hehehe

The only way to collect is to set them free!
I keep the box only to keep the accessories from scattering away.

I also display my vintage stuff out of the box. "resellability" is uninteresting for me.

Play and display, I keep the boxes to keep those that won't fit the cabinet, then just rotate the displayed pieces and boxed ones.

I play and display all of my toys, especially the premium ones, and keep the box nice in storage. When I run out of space, then the cheaper/less favorite ones sometimes go to my cubical at work or go back into their boxes eventually. I do try to keep boxes nice, since they usually have good designs and photos. But if they are ugly or not useful (like blister packs or ugly U.S. boxes), I dump them in recycle bin.

I don't buy stuff to resell so I display it unless I consider the box a work of art as well. If I kept everything in the box I would need a larger house. I keep the boxes for more exclusive rare toys in storage but for cheap stuff I toss the boxes.

Well, the closest option for me was "Most OOB but some must stay in OP". However, the only reason why some (actually a lot of) stuff is still in boxes is because I do not have any room to display them. I do open everything to make sure they are not broken/scratched/missing parts but I must say that about 50% end up staying in their original package (but not by choice).

Usually out of the box, but I have recently been putting some of the vintage back into their boxes. This is for two reasons; keeps em dust free, and the box art is too nice to hide away. If I feel like holding or displaying the toy, it's right there anyway. Vinyl usually lacks a box, so no problem there. New toys are never going to appreciate much, so they are displayed as well, plus, the box art usually sucks.

I may save some boxes, but generally it's pose, display, repeat in the next week or so.

i am glad to see this thread moving along as it is helping me with my future of collecting and displaying. I am surprised to see no one keeping things in Mint condition. This is often what how we see american collectors being portrayed as, or is it only when collecting american toys? Many movies and shows that depict toy/comic collectors always has them keeping everything in boxes never opened. so far this does not seem to be the case, though only 30 people have voted so far.
