I am going to get the new Mazinger/GX45 after all... I am back to collecting all of the SOC's and I am not going to END my obsession.
I am WEAK!
However, I am proud of myself for thinking otherwise for a month or so.

deadman, actually the new Mazinger was the cause of me wanting to quit. I just OD-ed on the Mazingers. But I guess not... I hear you on this one. I think I've just OD-ed on collecting period. Over the last 2 years, since I've stopped hitting RJ regularly, I've found myself buying a lot of stuff I'm just either not into, and getting disapointed by most of my modern toy purchases, across the board, regardless of brand. The Bandai stuff is just a little too expensive too often, the CMs stuff is poor quality for the dollar, the Aoshima stuff can be too fragile too. I feel like I've gotten to the point where I'm so down on what's come out - the Mospeada line in particular killed a lot of other purchases for me - that I just constantly look to the past, towards the vintage stuff. I have a deep, deep love for the vintage, I love a lot of the shows from 1972 - 1989, the Super Robots, the Real Robots... and I have a deep, deep disgust for most of the shows produced in the 90's and today. Like the 79 Gundam show, throw the rest in the trash, I say. The only newer anime shows I've had any interest in are the Leiji Matsumoto shows, and Mazinkaiser. I just can't stand what I call "spiky" and what my friends call "Kibble" robots, a few examples would be the Super Robot Wars guys, Evangelion, Macross Frontier, etc. - and I can see these robots being more of a focus for SOC. Most of the shows and robots I enjoy have been released already in some way already (well I'd love some Galaxy Railways toys but I think I may be the only person who would be interested in that. New Mazinger has definetly made me think twice about my collecting habits and really focus my collection... I feel that the Mazingers already released are more than good enough. But the new show looks great, and so does this new Mazinger, so I've got to get this new one. He looks great. I'm at about 75% dropped out point. I've already got my purchases for the year mapped out, and pre-ordered up as well. I think I really need to get some Getters, not sure to go with the set, or the individual SOCs though. After the getters and Mazingers, it's just filling out the rest of the Go Nagai/Mazinger cast (Boss Borot! why is this so hard to find now?!?) and I'm done with SOC... unless something else cool comes out. I know there's a lot of guys on this board who are SOC completists, or at least try to get one of each character released. I think that if this is all you collect, or if you can afford all of your habits, then you're good to go... otherwise... The focusing of my collection, honing it in, has made my pocket book happier, and my mind easier. I've really just honing in on Galaxy Express 999, Captain Harlock, Heidi, DC figures, Blade Runner, and Henshin Cyborg... and I'm much happier for it. Lucky for me, only one of these six has regular releases every year.

That's why I only buy stuff I like and it must be high in diecast. I didn't fall for CM's Mospeada stuff. If you always want to the be the first to own, then you should expect disappointments.

I have to agree . its better to buy only specific characters . I had to stop getting whole lines / series .
Though right now my money is gonna go for some of the upcoming Fewture products.
I had a thing for Aoshima Getters but that just got out of hand after awhile.
Though i still feel a need to own every single SOC. though now I'm just getting key figures.

Personally, i would just get the characters that are Dear to my heart and those you've grown with, and cherish them. and those that you don't know, just skip them
