I now have all of the SPECS. Okay, not really because I don't know the difference between the following:
- XS-05 Dragonar vs XS-06 Dragonar with Cavalier (obviously one has that big blue thing but anything else?)
- XS-01 vs XS-03 (weapons maybe?)
As I mentioned, I have all of them, except the 05 and 03 because they maybe identical to the others.
Any feedback would be great because what you say may determine whether I should get them or not...
Thanks.

The XS-05 and XS-06 actually have completely different armor, sharing pretty much only the same internal skeleton. The differences are all pretty subtle, but this image may help: As you can see, different head, different torso, different skirt, different shins, etc.. etc.. etc... Essentially they're two completely different robots. They just also happen to be the same exact robot. As far as the two Eva-01's, XS-01 is the original anime design wheras the XS-03 is the revival movie edition, and has some different coloring on the torso (mostly a stripe of green where the original is all purple) and lacks the EVA-01 lettering on the shoulders and arms. It also has upgraded hips; the original XS-01 had fragile hips that were prone to breaking. This was fixed on all subsequent releases.

Quinjester, I just want to re-confirm the facts: All the soc spec EVAS released after the XS-01, not just the XS-01R come with the improved hips, including the XS-03 with the gatling gun. Is this correct?

Unless I'm totally off base, only the original XS-01 had faulty hips, and after this was revealed all future SPEC Evas were revised, including the berserk Eva-01.

Thanks man. So the ONLY spec Eva that we need to avoid is the original XS-01.
What is your opinion on these EVAs compared to the SOC versions?

I actually don't own any of the SPEC Evas... I liked the shiny shiny shiny shiny metal finish of the SOC Eva too much to pick the SPEC over it, and I'm not a huge fan of doubling up on figure designs. I did get the SIC Movie Realization version because it was different and came with the Type F armor, though. As far as the stock SOC evas, the poseability wont be as good as on the SPEC versions in the shoulders (the shoulder movement is quite limited on the basic SOC) and, while I don't know how tight the joints on the SPEC are, my SOC Eva-01 was a floppy mess when I got it, and even after having massing quantities of nail polish and super glue dumped into the thing I don't dare touch it for fear of it keeling over under its own weight.
Personally, I'd say the SOC looks better, but the SPEC almost definitely will be more playable and displayable (as far as being able to change poses and mess with the different available weapons).

Quin, the SPEC is far more articulated and poseable then the SOCs, its also a lot bigger. but I only knew of EVa-1, didnt know if they ever made any of the others in SPEC form.
However, I do like the SIC MR version the best, though some of the armor doesnt stay on so good though, but it looks the sharpest of the bunch and is as big as the SPEC and more articulated then SOC but no where near the level of the SPEC. Still, its hands down the best looking version of all eva's

Thanks for the heads up, guys. Since I have a bad experience with SOC EVA's swiftly deteriorating joints and poseability (due to their heaviness, but when they weren't loose the poseability aren't so bad, pretty good instead), I've always wondering if SPEC EVAs are worthwhile replacement for the SOC EVAs.
Judging from the comments, I think they are, specially after the breakable hip was fixed.
